Nice folk song. You have a decent voice, nice harmonies as well!

Nice guitar playing, too!

yeah, my first thought was... where's the percussion?!?!

either way...
VERY beautiful phrasing!
I can actually feel your presense, which is a nice thing, cause a lot of times, you just kinda can "hear" inertly that this was take number 40 or whatever.

I love it.
It's endearing and "in the moment"...
Don't have kids (I think it's probably a good thing I don't reproduce lol)

still
very cool track

2nd review of the track.
Still love that track!Think you were right to add the cello and not the bass.
Great song!

A very under-represented genre. Nicely recorded ( acoustic guitars are notoriously hard to record well ), good vocal harmonies as well - well done.

thanks! that was my ex on harmony she is quite talented.. and there there was a lot of luck with the recording i think ...:) thanks again.

Wow so so good - wow wow wow. I just finally after years was able to put a vocal melody into a track as I developed it from scratch, so like right now especially your clarity in singing and pitch control really stand out to me. Great job!!

eh..... did you re-upload recently?????

i am kinda irked..

i just wanted to point on production first... which i don't mean to be a dick.. i went from knowing this stuff, to screwing this stuff up BIG time, and then re-learning it..

production wise.. with your mastering... i understand that it's an acoustic track, and that the peaks and valleys should flow accordingly (as opposed to a hip-hop/rap/rock track)
but you peaked at like... -15.4 dbs... where as... you normalized??? at -16??? ...

I don't mean to be mean.. but .... ok... Louder is better in my opinion... like.. if i clip.. i know how to fix that, but NEVER CLIP.. but.. you should ... honestly.. ALWAYS try and hit that sweet spot between clipping and it being too loud for the listener... (JUST MY OPINION!!! ok!)

NOW!

To the talent, after I boost the track by 16 dbs.

wow.. I really... couldn't tell the difference between Jewel and you?? Nice effects... beautiful work.. but the panning was weird with headphones, but I bet it sounds epic with stereo speakers...
There's a beautiful release and response with your overdubs...

lol.. for some reason when you or some girl sang ladddiddda it gave me chills... (wtf? lol)

SOooo...

I really like it!

just be aware of how your system sounds on your comp, as opposed to like... a car or cd player.... or an ipod/mp3player....

really cool
GREAT cover!
JensTonic
JensTonic replied Unknown
thanks for your review, after this song was recorded it literally took me 10 attempts to upload the song properly. we had clipped all over the place recording the vocals, so at first i figured i should bring the master down a bit to prevent the clipping on the master track.

I had no idea how to record properly until spacestationwagon said i should study up on proper mic and eq usage.....so we did...and now i understand the principles a little better.

i should re-record the song but i think im just gonna boost the master a the 16db since it is a cover.... this was good honest feedback, thanks

Very nice song, very sweet lyrics.I definitely love the sound of your guitar and your two voices really match together(maybe you can call it destiny). It's been years I've tried to write a song for my kids but I never did something worth.I'd be very happy to collab with you on a song if you want to.
PS:Thanks for your review of "Shine".

My family are into this one big time. The guitars work so well together, and the catchy little repeat-riff just makes it happen. My only complaint is I wished I had wrote this !! Excellent song

Hello again,
Really nice and sweet track. It's always tempting to add something to the song but sometimes it just spoils it so personaly I would keep it as it is or maybe add a clean guitar solo (slide?).It's funny because when I listened to your song I was writing one for my wife (I'll post it in a few days)
See ya!

nice song. good job on the harmonies. lead vox needs less verb to sinc up with the harmony. i suggest adding any vocal reverb after you take a dry track. sometimes a bit of room sound on the overall mix does the trick. certainly with an acoustic track like this. if you ever need a little bass, hit me up!

thanks for chequing in again...im gonna do just that. leave my voice mostly dry that's the way my girlfriends voice is...only thing everytime i go upload a song it seems i have to burn it to cd then convert it to mp3!! Im not sure why, but it's kind of annoying. anyway thanks for listening again..

Taking the swing out of it makes it feel like a whole different song. It takes courage to reinterpret a song this way instead of doing a completely straight cover. I was reading about your travails recording this thing. I don't know if anyone mentioned getting a compressor for vocal recording, but it's a good idea. Vocals can be TOO dynamic. They give everyone fits. Anyway, very cool cover.
JensTonic
JensTonic replied Unknown
this was our first cover and when i recorded it - it was clipping all over the map... and i didn't even realize it. I'm just learning who to use software compressors... but it's a learning process.....still loads of fun though....

Great little track arranged just as it is. The male vocal does need to come up with respect to the guitar track, and don't be afraid to pull some verb off of it. If you're using a bunch of EQ on it, try recording it flat instead, or only dialing out some of the room "honk" if there is any. Trust your voice and your gear. :)

It doesn't *need* more instruments, but it might be fun to have a cello come in on the 2nd verse to provide some bottom end. If you want to use regular bass guitar, then a bass part should come pretty easy to someone who can Travis pick like you're doing here.

Great little song, great little track.
JensTonic
JensTonic replied Unknown
thanks for the tips...so i'll take some reverb off..i am waiting for some midi cables to add a little something to it. i don't know if i want to repeat the the bass line with a bass though. cello would be nice but there doesn't seem to be any cello players on looperman.

This track sounds OK - no distortion or vibrato. In music terms I thing this one is great !! got a real "folky" sound to it what I like. I know everyones different but I would add a piano and a mandolin...
JensTonic
JensTonic replied Unknown
hey thanks for listening.... i think it does need a little something else, im waiting for a midi cable from ebay so i can experiment with other instrument sounds... thanks again and yeah i think i'll change it to folk...
