This seems like a super solid start! Intro is really sweet. I would be curious to hear how a bigger swell leading up to the drop would sound. Even maybe trying at 52 seconds letting the first note of the piano on the one stay and then dropping out those bells (or whatever they are) until the drop. It could have a nice dramatic pause with a bigger "pay off". Just an idea. Anyway, great piece and I think it deserves some rock solid vocals on top. Will be interested to see where you wind up....after you get over your beat block! :)

I'll give it a try. It might not fit this style but I will definitely try! Thanks for the feedback! :) I hope it ends soon, too. I contacted some vocalists and left a forum post so we'll see what happens. I'm having a tough time finding someone but It's only been a day. Although I'd assume my post will get lost the longer it's alive.

Nice. But too short.

Glad you liked it. Short because I haven't finished it yet.

So you have a terrific beginning to a really, really good song. Intro, and first verse are done, now you need to work on a chorus (hook) section, a bridge, and then your outro - then glue it all together and try to keep it under 4 minutes, haha. I would also advise you to look on Looperman for one of the many vocalists on here and if you find one you really like, ask them to lay some vocals over it. I can envision a Sam Smith type voice, or a female with the chops to carry this. With the piano being the anchor on it, you could also find someone similar to a lead singer like Train's Patrick Monahan, or Imagine Dragons Dan Reynolds. One thing is for sure, keep working on it as it has serious potential. Best of luck with it. I hope all is well.

Overall intro is brilliant! The Beat kicks in with guitar, wow I say where is the rest? I think it's going to be a spectacular creation! I'll be back for sure to check on results

Thank you! I'm working at it so hopefully soon. I've hit a creative block for now but we'll see.

A lightly distorted saw pad with delay might sound pretty cool. Maybe even a frequency filter for the wahwah sound. Something a bit gritty to cut through the lighter backing music. If you wanted to keep it lighter, then developing the piano would be a good start. A slow arpeggiation in the higher register could sound nice. It sounds great so far. It'll be nice to hear the full version.

Thanks a lot for all the feedback and suggestions. I'll certainly work on that as soon as I feel musical, lol. Thanks again!

Reminds me a lot of Todd Terje´s work on Bryan Ferry´s rendition of ¨Johhny & Mary¨ originally done by Robert Palmer. Curious if that was an influence? This is good.

This does have a rather "sunny side of the street" vibe to it. Reminds me Royksopp or Moby in his happier moments. Splendid job.

Yeah, I really liked it too but wasn't sure if I could incorporate it in a song because of the style I've been making lately. I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

The chords are very nice. The break at 0:49 sounds great. Some kind of lead at 1:43 might sound pretty cool. Great track.

I can see why you made that post as this could definitely go a lot of different directions. I'd like to encourage you to finish more of your stuff even if you don't end up liking the end result as you can learn a lot by doing that. as for what to do with this one in particular, in the end its up to you but I think I'd skip out on the rap with something this chill, i generally find rap fits better with something a little more intense. if i were writing it id put in some kinda piano or synth melody and a relatively simple bassline. this seems more like a beginning and there's just so many different ways to go with this its kinda hard to make suggestions. if you want to grab some attention though id recommend a lot more variation on things in the song as you make it, or if we're just chilling out a slow progression. thats all i got right now, hope it helps

Thanks for the suggestions! I understand the rap thing but maybe it'd help if I said I was planning for it to be a deep, clean styled rap-ish type thing but still have a melody in the lines (not sure if I explained that good). This is a beginning and I have and will continue to play around with some synths, pianos, and rhodes. Thank you for your support!

Wow, you have got a really great piece of work! It's catchy and found myself humming to it the 3rd, 4th, 5th time I listened to it!! I really like this, as I am a pianist. Have been since I was 6 years old, and started composing at 12. (I'm now... lets just say over 50 now). I came to looperman because, honestly, my timing isn't the greatest. Almost atrocious if anyone were to try and put a drum loop to it. Hah, not good. My music just has a way of its own, however, I am looking for a few loops like yours of the drums. Something simple, yet, to the point to keep me on track. Thank you for posting!! Tamra

Geez. Thanks so much for this thoughtful comment! I really enjoyed reading this. If you'd like some drum loops like that of this track, I'd be more than happy to do that! These drums are super simple and great to keep time with. If you go to my profile, you'll find my direct email there. If you have any other questions or requests, feel free to send a message. I'll follow up with a direct looperman message. Take care!

Dude, Has a very nice ambient feel to it. I dig it. One little note, bring down the main volume on the intro instrument a touch as to not be soo prominante. Maybe a light compression effect on the drums? Bring out a little punch to the sound.
But, sounds good. Keep it up!!
JJIreland
JJIreland replied 18th Jan 2020 - 5 years ago
Thanks! I have since changed that, thank you! I'll investigate the drums as they're all in separate groups so I'd have to find a way to collectively provide more compression to each individual percussion equally... Convert them to an audio track and compress? Anyways. Thanks!!
