Yea, i listen to a very wide range of music and it all influences me in different ways. i love making metal, but i totally suck at mixing it. and usually some electronic influence finds its way in to the metal i make. ha. but thanks for the kind words, i appreciate it.
The mic was probably to close to the kick drum, what you need in this song is a bass, or at least I am not hearing one, and good god, do you every stop rolling the bass drum?
Oh theres a bass but thats were the shitty mic comes in, it doesnt really pick up low end at all. Also there was no "drums" per say, they were all programmed and distorted. I love fast double kicks (i listen to a lot of deathmetal, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Nile, Decapitated, etc.) so thats why theres so much of it in the metal (if you want to call it that) i make.
The melody to the verse parts kinda sound like some early 90s westcoast, Souls of Mischief stuff. I'm digging that and your drums hit hard, gritty like you said. Didn't really feel the sound of the hook, it just didn't seem to blend well (although it did a bit better the second time when you had a bridge after it). I wish I could offer a suggestion instead of just saying I didn't like that certain part but I can't.
