Hi Twanna,

Great track. Love your vocals and your musicians are a fine group, also. On my end, the music overpowers your lovely vocals (mostly bass.) I'd like to hear your purity a little better, but that just may be my sound system. All n all, a groovy track. I look forward to more of you projects.

Ciao,
M.

Thank you, Musicante for taking time out of your day so see what I am all about. I so appreciate your critique. I agree, this track is a bit "bassy". I was attempting to get around having to redo my music track, being I bounced it down so many times. But to do the song justice, I am just gonna get her done...lol

Thank you again and God bless

hi Twanna, I love this one. it is so loud mixed and probably there are many things to fix in the production but the funk disco vibes like this really relax me. very stylish 80's style bass groove and vocals. I really enjoyed this song. Alex

Thank you Alex. I know, huh...solid bar...lol.

When I do the remix with lyrics, I will straighten all that out. It was fun to compose. Took me back to "the day".

Will have the remix up soon.

Thanx again:-)

Twanna: Your dad firing Jimi Hendrix because of his feedback totally makes sense to me! The Revue wasn't that kind of sound. That was absolutely tight R&B and that band was so disciplined and so good. I must admit I paid a lot more attention to the band I think than I did to the Ikettes. Anyway, that's a great story! :) I just read that your Dad actually considered that his primary instrument was the piano, not guitar. I actually wasn't aware of his work and his influence prior to the Revue. Now I have to get into iTunes and see if I can learn something. It's a night for discovering new treasures, including your excellent tracks! :)
Twanna1
Twanna1 replied 6th Dec 2014 - 10 years ago
Daddy's primary instrument was the piano. He told me the only reason he played the guitar with the Revue was to keep everything tight. He said if he moved the guitar up, the Ikettes hair should be moving in a certain direction. If he swung it to the side, that meant something else. He was an incredible pianist. He told me stories how B.B. King came over to his house as a kid and they would play music together. If you want to hear HIS side of the story, get his book 'Taking Back My Name'. He started writing it when he was in prison. He would send me excerpts of it as he finished it. Believe me, I was shocked at what he went through as a child. He is VERY blunt and holds no punches - no pun intended. You WILL get a true sense of who he was and what motivated him. You will also see why Virgin pulled his book after only a short release. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to get a new copy of his book without paying through the nose, but here is a link from Amazon where you can get one at somewhat of a reasonable price.

Well, Twanna. I am feeling really stupid right now for not having found you previously on Looperman! I think this is the most powerful, emotive track I've heard on this site. Loved the beat and Allen's guitar work was superb. But, no question that it was your vocal that made this track so special. Like others who have commented, I don't understand why you aren't playing on radios all over the place. My only consolation, and it is quite selfish, is that if you were, you almost certainly wouldn't be here with us. Your label wouldn't allow it. But that thought is really selfish of me and I apologize for being so greedy. You deserve to be heard by the world. In the meantime, thank-you for sharing your wonderful music with us.

Eric, you are a Godsend!! I was just gong through something quite heartbreaking regarding me, my music, and what is my purpose. This track was inspired by some of the feelings I am experiencing right now. I believe the Lord sent you to confirm that I should just stay the course. As for labels and the like, my style does not fit their mold. But as long as I have breath coursing through me, I will continue to co-create with my Lord and express myself the only way I know how. God bless you my friend. You don't know how dear your words are to my heart.

Blessings!!

I really enjoyed this track, Twanna. I discovered you tonight for the first time after seeing your comment on the track posted by Carrol. You make great music! Wonderful voice. Very interesting that Ike Turner was your Dad. I'm going to have to get my hands on his book. Didn't realize he written one. But, I did see him live sometime around 1963. He brought the Ike and Tine Turner Review to Vancouver BC. Fantastic show! So much energy. The band was so good I couldn't believe it. i still remember the tour bus they had parked outside the Exhibition Hall at the PNE Fairgrounds. I was very impressed. A few years later, in 1965, in upstate NY I saw a guitarist named Jimmy James in a band backing up Chuck Berry at a concert at my college. I thought his playing reminded me a lot of your Dad's playing. A few years later, Jimmy James was Jimi Hendrix. I think he had been influenced by your Dad, as many others were. Anyway, I hope we'll see and hear more of you on Looperman.

Believe it or not Eric, Jimi played with Daddy for a while, before he fired him because of the "feedback" from his guitar. Ironic, it was Jimi's feedback that started a new and innovative way of playing. You have a great ear!!

Thank you Alex for the reply. Really appreciate you taking out the time to comment.

I added the crowd to give a sense of being at the horse race. The "old school" vibe was what I was going for.

I was having fun creating levity...lol

so twannaaa that beat really Drops in .. I could imagine this as some sountrack for a James Bond movie or sumthing. Really reminding me of it. You got a really Special BIG voice twanna and you are making use of it and your Special Talent. It all is matching very well together for me as you People would be a band but I just saw the you have used some Loops from other loopers great work! I could not judge anything I don't like about this. Let the voice move on..

Thank you my friend for your appreciation of the track. It does appear "cinematic" a bit...lol. But the frame of mind in was in which inspired the song, was just that "cinematic". Life can be that way at times, then reality comes in, my reality being my personal relationship with my Lord. He has blessed me with the ability to express myself through the gift He has given me. Hope I don't appear to be "preachy", this is just who and what I am.

Much love to you as always!!

Be blessed.

Twanna...this is such a great, great track!....Wow,where to begin.....I think you've crossed the bridge of your own conceptual determination, the feelings that created this piece have given rise to a creation of pure light in it's most literal sense,if anything can penetrate darkness it is light, not many people can focus their attention and create a construct that not only helps themselves but others as well...just amazing work,I know your a spiritual person with strong faith, this song is tapping into a universal language that everyone can understand, absolutely incredible performance on all levels!.....it's also great to hear Allen playing,he's so hand and glove with your style I can hardly believe it,perfect!...I'm going to listen to this a bit more in my car and do another review!!........brilliant! Thank you so much, my friend for your beautiful sentiments. It is truly a blessing to be able to express my inter-most emotions through music. I use the creation of music for my release in lieu of anything synthetic. My spirituality is very precious to me and gets me through my times of testing. I am so glad that aspect comes across in what the lord and I co-create.

I am looking forward to your re-review of the track.
God bless and have a wonderful weekend!

You are just sooooooo good!!!! Seriously, I cannot for the life of me figure out why your music isn't playing on radios, IPods, IPhones, all over this country. Maybe I should lobby "The Voice" and see if we can't get you on national TV. Your father would be so proud of this one.

This is seriously radio ready. Allen is such a huge talent, but when he jumps in and plays along with your amazing voice....well, it is a bit of auditory magic.

I'm definitely adding this one to my favorites, and I will enjoy again and again here on Looperman.

You, young lady, are incredible. But I think maybe you already knew that. I hope all is well.

I just love you, Bear...You always touch me with what you say! So heartfelt. I pray that you and your lovely wife are both well. It feels so great to reconnect!!

As I told TG in my response to him, I can only say in due season. Believe it or not, I auditioned for The Voice, TWICE. Was turned down both times. That's why I say, in due season. Doors seem be closed around me, but that does not stop me from creating. Music is who I am...who He has designed me to be.

The scripture keeps coming to mind, James 1:4 - But endurance must do its complete work, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing." This is wisdom.

Much love to you both and God bless.
