Why the hell does this have only one review? I absolutely love that gated synth. It's really beautiful and it's great how depending on what orchestration you've used, the feeling of it switches from mysterious to melancholy. And the guitar introduced around 2:45 really takes this tune to another level. I really like this tune. Yeah it has sort of an 80's feel, but you've combined it with enough of the present (and your own sound,) so it doesn't just sound like a rehash, but something new and entirely yours. Well done.

Thanks for the exceptional review. I try to take elements from the past and incorporate it as much as I can with the present. Reviews like this strive me to progress my oringinality while appealing to large audiences.

on In Ethereal Space by toddj
I absolutely loved that first minute and a half. Took me on a journey, but I'm not sure I'd call it "heavenly". There's quite a switch around the 3 minute mark. I'm guessing this is the heavenly part, because it's a lot brighter and less eerie. To be honest, the change up doesn't work for me. It's well composed, but sounds like a completely different song.

So to break this down: minute 0 - 2:52 is brilliant. Eerie, trippy and psychedelic. Minute 2:52 - 6, and this is just personal taste, I didn't like all that much. A bit too trancey and Enigma'ish for me, especially after the otherwordly first 3 minutes. But again, this is just a subjective opinion. Minute 6 - 8 = Great again.

Thanks SGN for your perspective. I guess I wasn't going for the conventional song structure on this track. It was more of a experimental approach that I was going for.

on You Guys by DJRose96
Yup, I agree with Numberjack. You have some really great ideas in here [the composition of the bass and the glitchy drums in particular caught my attention], but the construction seems off. I'm not sure if it's the vocal but some parts sound out of time...like they aren't looping. And yeah, as Numberjack said, work on the kicks and make the bass thicker with some eq'ing or just add a sub playing the name notes. If you tweak these things and get them right, this track will sound amazing. I really do love the ideas in here. You just need to polish up on the execution a little.

That high-pitched synth is really great. Spooky, but in a fun way. The sound at 2:08 as well...like a bent guitar/bass...whatever it is, I love that as well. The vocal samples are nice, but I think you may just wanna lower their volume a bit when they first appear. Other than that, this was a really enjoyable listen. Keep up the good work.

Thank you. I have updated the track but not uploaded that yet, but I will take another listen before I do and try to adjust the levels. The problem is that I keep finding samples that are really cool and scary lol.

Those guitar samples are just great man. The drum groove is nice and simple, which is a good thing because the guitar and bass deserve to be front and center. One of the more unique dubstep tracks I've ever heard, and it helps that it's fu*king awesome. Well done.

on Lifes Dojo by DJFredrick
Great, head-nodding beat and I love the guitar [whatever string that is] that goes along with it right from the start. Kind of reminds me of some of DJ Krush's work. I'm a fan of chaos in music [organized chaos to be more specific] so maybe I'm not the right person to say this, but I didn't think this was too chaotic at all. Yeah, the mastering is a little off in places [particularly that bass/distorted synth around 2:35], but other than that, this track sounds just fine. I think a "cleaner" version would probably take away from the gritty feel that characterizes the song anyway.

Another lovely tune. From what I've heard so far from you, you're really good at producing jazz, or injecting that vibe into a track of a different genre. It just sounds natural. Keep up the good work.

I love this beat. Got a great old-school jazzy vibe to it. Beautiful chords and keys, and a great bassline as well. Well done man.

on ankh by lamardsol
I've heard just 15 seconds of this and I love it already.

I love the atmosphere and the panned shakers at the start. Actually pretty much everything. To be honest, I'm not crazy about the keys around 1:52. It's not bad, but it seems like standard hip-hop/r'n'b fair when this track is so much more. Another suggestion would be to shorten this track by a bit. While there is a lot happening in the entire duration, there isn't enough variation for it to be almost 5 minutes long. Hope you don't take this the wrong way, because I really, really like this track.

Edit - Fu*king awesome video. I'm assuming that's you right? Really funny stuff. It's weird because I used to write jokes too. Mostly one liners in the vein of the late Mitch Hedberg [only much unfunnier]. Never performed though, because I'm in India and also - stage fright. But yeah, loved your material man.

on Welcome to my party by Mrbillionx
I really like this. Reminds me of some of the more minimal beats by the Neptunes. There's a certain swagger that comes with leaving the beats bare like that, and it helps that this has a really funky groove. Lyrically, I really have nothing to say because I hardly ever listen to the lyrics of a song, unless I've heard it a million times and it's just ingrained in my head.

Overall, great job.

on Fairytale ft Louise by Influx
Love the muddy drum groove at the start. Reminded me of a lot of Detroit deep house tunes that I really love. Was kind of disappointed with where it went from there mainly because I was expecting it to stay dirty and deep, but that doesn't take away from the fact that this is a very well composed track [we just have different tastes in house that's all]. Nevertheless, as far as objective criteria [composition, production value] is concerned, this is remarkably impressive work taking into account this is your first tune. Keep it up man.
Influx

I dunno if we have different tastes in house. I would probably really enjoy the style you're talking about. This is just the way the song built itself as I was working on it. Thanks for enjoying it though :D I appreciate it!!

Not really the type of music I listen to, but this is really, really well composed. Love the acoustic guitars and your voice is the best singing voice I've heard on this site [by quite a distance]. Keep up the good work.

I personally hate autotune but this is freakin hilarious, and I feel the overemotive autotuned voice actually makes it funnier.

Sausage good.

on Degalvyi by Bioscape
Beautiful stuff. I agree with your description in that this has a spiritual vibe, but what I think makes this track stand out to me is the jazz influence that I hear [especially for the first couple of minutes] for some reason. Maybe it's the piano? Don't know, but whatever it is, I like it.
Bioscape

I think its just me coming out in a piece...I have deep roots in jazz..I've kinda just branched out of the genre recently..I guess it cannot be hidden lol

on Science and Nature by Bioscape
Love the strings/synth that appear straight off the bat. Really lovely. I also like the simple drums that hit hard [think you may have used a bit of reverb on the snare. I like that]. The nature fx is good too, but my only advice would be to lower the volume of some of it [especially the one that sounds like crickets chirping] because it tends to overshadow and distract rather than underline and enhance the great melody in my opinion. Other than that minor quibble, this is an excellent piece of work.

on Heaven by Blume by BlumeChoon
Love the vocal samples you've used here. The subbass is top notch as well, but it just might be a bit too loud. Like just a little. It doesn't get distorted on my speakers [just saw you mentiont that below] but there are parts where it sounds disproportionately loud to the rest of the song.

I tend to enjoy songs that combine bright'ish pads and atmosphere with a deep sub [when done well, as it is here]. It just evokes a certain feeling I can't quite put a finger on. Well done.

Hey Nystagmus I appreciate you stoppin by... Yeah I think I need to level that bass a lil bit better. It sounds pretty good on my system just not in my car. So I will make some adjustments and update this one along with some other ones that the levels are a tad off on. Appreciate the crit and the review...

on The Ancient Extraterestrial Code by Stylah
6 seconds in and I LOVE this. I just generally love this style of techno. Dark, moody and mysterious, and to top it off - breakbeats. I've heard the drum loop you've used in many songs before, but it doesn't make a negative difference here because it fits with the song.

My only wish is you'd continued building the mood and atmosphere for longer before bringing in that synth at 1:45. To be honest, that synth seems out of place on this song. Don't get me wrong, it's perfectly composed, but I was just expecting something else after the way this track started i.e. something less conventional. The synth to me takes it into standard techno/breakbeat territory, which there's nothing wrong with, but I thought this song promised much, much more. Hope you get what I'm saying. [Check out songs by Millie and Andrea, and T++ to get an idea of what kind of song I thought this was going to be]. Anyway, other than the synth [which isn't my thing], this is by far the best techno track I've heard on this site. Keep up the good work.

I really like this tune. I've heard songs like these before but never on this site. It's kind of like a combination of glitch hop and dubstep. Yeah, I don't really have any criticism to offer here. Good stuff.

PS - Sludgecity = Great name.

This is pretty good man. Excellent composition. Love the high pitched bells or whatever that is, and the drums are good as well. My only advice would be to eq the bass because it sounds a little too muddy and distorted. Other than that, this is really nice and eerie.

I like this a lot. The pads are lovely as is the acoustic guitar. Great beat and vocal samples as well. This might be because I'm listening to it on headphones but the guitar does sound a little [very little] too loud. But yeah other than that, this is really good work.

I took your recommendation and checked this out and I now thank you for guiding me to this track because holy sh*t, this is pretty amazing. I really like the way you inject a little dose of gleeful, dark humour into your tracks [atleast the two I've heard so far]. It's really hard to do that while managing to still sound good which is the entire point of making a song anyway, and this most definitely sounds good. Excellent work. PS - I'd call this Robot Funk.

For your "third beat ever", this is amazing. Even if it was your 100th, I'd be impressed. I just generally love this sound [the whole experimental/abstract hip-hop thing] and you've done an excellent job with it. Especially love the woozy synths. Nicely done.

on War (The State of the Union) by Thethanx
Really like this tune. I especially love the reverse piano. It's amazing how the simple act of reversing a loop can lead to a totally different feeling and sound. The organ is really what makes me even think of this as a dub tune, or else I would have no idea how to categorize this. Love the pads you bring towards the latter half as well. My only criticism would be the that the bass sounds maxed out and distorted, especially in the few bars where it's the primary sound. Maybe you could eq that and make it more of a sub for those few bars, while leaving the rest as is. Keep up the good work.

I have no idea why I took so long to reply to these, but Thanks for the review and thanks for the advice. Right now it´s a bit hard for me to EQ individual parts of a song without it effecting the whole thing (I´m using an ipod app) but once I get a real DAW I plan on remastering all my tracks. I will definitely fix that bassline! Solid advice and thanks again!
