Wow great job here ben. You pretty much nailed this one, even your vocals are damn near perfect here. You can sing. Are you into hot rods and/or the 50's subculture? I actually do a lot of Hot Rod related art and from time to time go to shows and events. Rockabilly music is very popular and there are some fabulous bands out there cranking out some of this music. I dig this track and the only thing I can think of that might add to it or improve it would be a nice harmonica (like the original) or Brian Setzer type guitar lead. Keep rockin bro.

Thanks for your feedback, great to here that others stick to this kind of music too. I would not say I am being in a 50's subculture but same with me , going to events hearing a lot of 50's music , start in Jan'18 playing in a band playing that stuff too :-).What kind of hot rod related art you talking about - I am very interested to see something. thx! Cool recording! Never heard of the go getters, have to check them out. Needs some bass to even out the mix a little. Vocals sound good, clean and the guitars sound good too. Look forward to hearing TV's mix if he follows through. It's rock and roll and who doesn't want to rock out? Well done!

This is actually pretty awesome. I would love to have a try at mixing this and mastering it. Any chance you would send me the stems and let me give it a try? I would let you decide if it was good enough to post.
Either way, I dug it. Reminded me of Buddy Holly for some reason.

Nice job. I hope I get the chance to mix this for you.

sure, looking forward hearing the final mix, feel free to add things, but would be good to keep the kind of style alive.
What do you need me to do ? Sending seperate clean track files (wav, mp3) , also need an email.

I agree with the other comments. Music is great. Vocals are good but need to pop a bit more. Also, would love to hear the lead guitar a little louder in the mix.

Nice job.

Cheers.

Love the guitar you have going on, sits in the mix big and has a cool tone and effects. The two parts are working great together. Catchy number, rock a billy, early rock n roll feel with a bit of a modern upgrade as well.

Vocals sound good to me, maybe a touch more reverb. I like your version, the drum change before the 2 minute point added an interesting change and took it to a cool place, kind of a surf beat.

Cheers!

I love this rockabilly groove. The guitars sound great. There's spaces for the verses, the chorus and the bridge, so it's ready for lyrics, and this is the kind of track that's really easy to write for, the lyrics just jump right out of the music. If I wasn't the shittiest singer on earth, I'd come up with something and share. But I am. A great, honest, down-to-earth piece of music with a beating heart and dancing feet. Great job.

Rockabilly greetings.

This is some very authentic rockabilly you have here. Very retro. It's not my preferred type of rock n roll genre but this is really well done.

Great timing on the guitars and an incessant groove, which is what you really need for this sort of style. Proper old time band-based dance music.

1:48 there's even quite a cool little solo.

Well produced though perhaps it could do with a heavier bass sound. And kick drum. That's a bit weak.

Is the ending perhaps too abrupt?

Thanks a lot for your valuable reply, I intentially cutted the mix at 80Hz since it buzzed a lot through my monitors but need to doublecheck with different speakers I guess :-) I had the idea for the outro relatively on short term but wanted to complete the track somehow on the other hand.

Hey Ben,

Really slick bit of guitar playing and straight up Rock A Billy !
I got turned onto Rock A Billy when Brian Setzer and the Stray Cats came onto the rock scene in the 80's. I'm also into Hot Rodding which has embraced the low brow culture and this form of music is very popular.
Sounds like you definitely got your rig set up properly and the tone is spot on. Are you in fact playing this on a hollow body, maybe Gibson or Gretsch? The first electric guitar I ever played was my Dads Vintage 1963 Sears Silvertone hollow body.

I dig man, I must hear more !!

Thanks a lot for your stunning feedback, good to hear you love that music too - I am quite diverse in music styles but as well much influenced by my dad hearing elvis and stuff all day long ;) I am not playing that on a hollow body but on an Les Paul with a standard R&R setup but for sure little finetune applied.

Very upbeat! vocals are great but use just a little something to make it pop. Reverb or slight delayed echo might just do it. Great work!

Wassup it sounds good! with the beat and the vocals. To me you got like a Elvis Presley type of voice. sometimes you can use compression, reverb, and maybe delays if there's a big enough gap in some spots.there's also vocal harmony which you do a lower pitch ,regular pitch, and then high pitch on a chorus usually. The way you did it sounds great just depends what you feel at the time when adding sound effects.
Ben1972
Ben1972 replied 13th Feb 2017 - 8 years ago
thanks a lot , I used a little bit of everything, slapback echo, pinch compression and also a very small portion of reverb. Anyhow I will give the multiple harmony pitch thing a try.

Love the bluesy guitars :p Perfect the way it is! A touch of reverb does add a cool sound to vocals, and Evisma nailed it, a million dollar studio would ruin it. After studying and studying mix/mastering and not being happy with the sound I got, I decided more raw and less messed with was they way I preffered my own music.
Ben1972
Ben1972 replied 13th Feb 2017 - 8 years ago
Thanks a lot , thats exactly the way I feel when mixing / mastering , there is way too much options , knobs and controls , in the end I screwed it all up and start over ending up with a complete different sound.
