I can't believe the treasures I have been finging here on looperman. Gotta tell you, this track is one of them. Its been up for so long and I've only just found it. That's just nasty.
A definite fav, my friend, wish I could download it
well this track got us in a lot of trouble and the whole thing had to be done in like 2 hours from its inception. I just grabbed a tele, plugged it into a pod and gave it one take only, My rhythm could have been better for sure but the overall song I like a lot and the message is crucial for the sheeples of our day. Thanks man.
This was the 2nd track this young girl ever wrote. I like her whiskey voice and aggressive approach a lot. I find her a brilliant writer because she really attempts to write a song instead of the usual passive - a couple of words a second - submissive stuff conspicuous of a lot of electronic singers. She doesnt even think she can write. A few of her relatives were in outstanding bands (soundgarden etc) so she sets her bar really high. thanks for your comments.
I hear ya - i really consider it a form of twisted downtempo. If Looperman had a downtempo category not associated with trip hop, I would have used that.
I do agree that the writing could be better on this track. At the same time, the lyrical content of this track involves some age old cuban phrasing and that is nothing to mess with, especially when you are dealing with extraordinary players. It really is a recording of a jam sessions and then edited together to form a song. I think those familiar with congo's will appreciate Sheilas solo - very masterful and full of emotion if you ask me.
Ahh..I’ve just come over to see what all the fuss is about. Seeing as you’re very free with your critiques. Lets have a look at your own work…. I must say it’s very good, you have an exceptional ear for the subjective turn of phrase and an excellent grasp of production techniques which are first class, on a par with other good material from this site of the same genre, no better, no worse…. What bothers me though is that this is as good as it’s going to get for you, unfortunately your perceptive grasp of the medium has been diminished by your seemingly superior position that you place upon yourself, a shame really because in the real world of aesthetics self loathing which is the hidden reality behind superiority equates to a clouded outlook and an inability to expand beyond one’s own horizons…whether this self hatred stems from an unloved childhood it clearly has manifested itself in your opinion towards others. And probably is exacerbated by the feeling of loneliness that you are currently displaying…the music’s ok I’d work on your people skills a bit though…....planet
I absolutely do not feel superior to anyone. I have cultivated honesty and honesty does not bid well in a world contaminated with the very things you suggest.
I do appreciate you taking the time to make some comments and the things you say have been duly noted.
I do urge artists to reach inside, dig deep, and do great work. Work we are all capable of. If an individual cannot take a critique, and perceives critique to come from a position of superiority - then it probably points to exactly what you are talking about.
It is ok to not like a track - and in light of the review process - it is more than ok to say so. If you ask for a review - it is up to the reviewer to be as honest as possible.
Loving the vocal production on this track (very original voice), The way you have layered the textures to create the tracks completed sound is masterful. I couldn't help in noticing that your comments (reviews) have stirred some emotions among some of the members of this site. I am a music fanatic (any genre as long as it sounds fantastic) politics don't interest me, but I do believe in respect. Your skills have earned my respect! This site has alot of different levels of ability and alot of passionate members. I hope we can put this whole episode behind us and concentrate on creating music to the level I have just heard...
well i have to say that i have downloaded a few of your loops and will let you know if they get used.
thanks for the kind words. i wholeheartedly believe in pedagogy and the critique process. obviously by all of the emails i have received - most but not all of them positive - yes i have created a firestorm. Honesty has been known to do such things but diplomacy is always a good idea as well. I urge everyone to put that same energy into their tracks. It is imperative that we bring positive energy to this world. At the same time - I urge everyone to dig deep and do the true work of being an artist. When someone tries to gain an advantage through intrigue, it is usually a bad sign.
cheers Slap I appreciate your words.
