And on that note, selfishly, if you're ever in the market for a singer / lyricist on a track I would kill to get my hands on something like this.
Again, wonderful stuff. Hope the contest goes well!

Great piece of music you have here :)
I'm not a big listener of this sort of music, so I probably don't have much insight to offer.. however, I do feel the chorus could be beefed up a bit more with maybe a string section (I can even hear the melody in my head) I think it'd go really well!
I haven't read any of the other comments so you may have covered this already - but are you planning on laying vocals over this as well?
Really really good job overall!

I actually agree with you on the strings, and they will come - but not until I add the vocals :) Glad you stopped by for a listen and appreciate the input!

Fine piece of instrumental work so far! Everything is exactly the way it supposed to be. I assume drums are loops, or? (?) judging by comments below. I think for a songwriting contest the songwiting qualities matter the most, not really production or just instrumental. I might be wrong though. Can you reveal more about the competition you're entering?
You may always consider playing with the dynamic of the song more (I mean softer intro, longer outro etc.) because this sounds so very commercial and mainstream (therefore boring somehow, at least to me) - a little bit of dynamic variety would be nice, for example: dropping elements somewhere in the middle, a bit like in radio tunes labeled as Dance music. It depends of course on the lyrical structure and the actual message of the song.
Otherwise this is some really great material. Congratulations and good luck!

This all sounds good and very clean and crisp. You're really very good at recording.
This is, as usual, your brand of melodic guitar-based music, but with some added, distorted balls coming in around 0:53. Nice guitar crunch there.
And then nicely back down into your verse.
Damn, I don't actually have that much to say about this. I'm trying but it's really well done so no obvious criticisms. It's a pretty perfect bed for vocals.
You should explain how you're doing the drums as they're great.
Sorry for the lack of suggestions but that's a good thing.
Some great vocals and you might even win the competition!

0:53 drums sound like there should be some kind of change in tone till 1:13, then they sound fitting again. Maybe more of a rim-shotted snare there? Or maybe another snare layered underneath, just barely noticeable.
By 2:45 the acoustic sounding guitar gets a bit old on the ears.
Yeah, there you go. As picky a bitch as I can be, that's all I can muster. That said, I have some serious tone envy going on here. I've NEVER captured a sound so clean and PROFESSIONAL sounding. Can't say it's hugely creative or new to the ears, sounds pretty Goo Goo Dolls, but holy crap is your recording good!
Best of luck to you!
Evan

If you could lower the main gain say by 6db then do a bounce to mp3 you should come to see what I was saying?
This by no means to doubt your capability as a competent producer this was my observation.

What standard could you make with Pro Tools? Just pro, of course...you did it but this time only in the quality of the mixing...the style (this kinda guitarish soft pop/rock is very popular) but these songs are only 'come and go' numbers for me if you know what I mean...anyways, vocs could give face for it, for sure and hope I/we will enjoy one of yours voice on it...
Handshake, Danke

But i wonder a bit about the harder parts in it. Cause i never heard you singing in that "hard rocking" style. :)
I enjoyed the listen and would be happy if i/we once get the chance to listen to the complete song with vocals on.
I don't know if it is a winner track cause i never know what people really wanna hear but for me it sounds like a very well made pop song. And i wish you both much success at the contest
stay tuned
