Another wonderful effort. Terrific emotion in your vocal work and I love the unplugged feel of this one.
One thing that might help when mixing vocals is to triple your vox tracks - then pan one track all the way to the right, one all the way to the left, and one right down the center. Then adjust the volumes accordingly (if you don't, it will make them much too loud for the mix). A little reverb (a small room) on the right and left, and then maybe a warm plate for the vox in the center. Then EQ all three (try to warm them a bit, working with the mid-range frequencies). This method works for me. We all have a different way of doing things, but maybe you could give this a try.
Anyway, it will bring the vocals out, give them a nice studio feel. Don't worry too much about mixing and mastering. With your vocal skills, there should be plenty of people more than willing to step up and mix and master for you. You really have a wonderful voice. Keep making music.
Thanks. I can't wait to actually track the vocals on this one. It got buried for a bit but at some point its gonna come back with a vengeance. Thanks for the tips too! I'm taking notes all the time. SO out of my comfort zone but theres no reason why I can't get a good quality recording here and like you said maybe let a more experienced hand mix and master it. i have pages and pages and pages of notes and lyrics and so on. Thanks for the review!
This one is a bit like taking a small bite of Ghirardelli Chocolate....it is a magnificent experience, but it leaves me wanting much more.
Your voice is a cross between KT Tunstall and Alison Sudol, a very nice combination indeed. I would love to hear this song when it is completed. Until then, this small taste will have to suffice. By the way, the piano work is flawless.
Great vocals! You are very talented! Your recording skils could use some improvement, but well, you know that ofcourse.
Would love to do some tracks with you.
haha leaky faucet, alright lets review and listen: Wow, I wish I knew what VST he used for piano. progresses nicely, and your vocals fit well. definitely could use some more though! excited to hear more of your voice.
what u need on the vocal is some delays and some liiitle compression and then turning it up.
that is a beautiful voice, if u need a pop filter get one.
personally i would love to remix this into a hip hop track or say Rnb if u would let me, after u get all ur men to rap on it for u. if so then i can get my boys here to rap on it for u as well, but mainly, i am interested in remixing it to rnb or hip hop.
i love it. job well done
@dextdee
im always up for ideas. in my head it has more hip hop than i can handle lol... kind of eminem/rhianna or hailey williams/b.o.b but unplugged. i dunno i cant get the sound out of my head and onto my hard drive.
Hey!
I like this track, you have a good voice.
That's the reason why I think you could let your voice get more in front. In the beginning the vocals drowns in the guitar, towards the end it sounds a bit distorted.
When I record I set the gain when I sing the loudest to avoid that kind of distortion and then use compression in the mix to even out the dynamics (if needed).
This might seem as a lot of critique, it really isn't. This track is a really good performance and I think you have an excellent voics.
Peace

Update: the more knobs and slides, the merrier. I usually concentrate on the gain setting, the compression and very litte equalization (I almost always overdo it so it sounds like crap... oh, that's my crappy voice. hehe)
hehe thanks.
I just recorded it for reference. It clips bad towards the end even though I was about 20 inches from the mic lol. My mic cant handle my early morning phlegmy awesomeness. Thanks for the tips. I'm hoping to track this one for real soon and I was wondering about levels. I've got more knobs and sliders than I know what to do with. :(
I'm still working out the kinks. I wanna do some harmonies and then sit down and tinker with the rest. I've barely got the hang up "Arm", "Record" lol
Thanks everyone! *superhappyface* I had a lil brain glitch apparently and left the laptop plugged in...makes this awful noise I haven't figured out how to scrub out. So I'm just gonna re-do em as soon as I have a quiet day...which is who knows when.

Theres a piano loop you did that I adore...again, once i get a quiet day.
Dude I was just listening to that loop before i listened to this song!!! what are the chances of that! awsome part of a song, you should tottaly make it longer.
