be careful not to over use your samples. this track is okay, i think the bassline is not very clear, i see wher your going with it though.

the drums were the best part, nicely arranged, well laid out. its a good track overall i think; it just lacked the *wow* factor for me.

Im Impressed that you used Fruity to make this, the synths are very nice. What plugin is that?
And the intro is very good too, And i love what you're going for, Remixes of traditional songs into dubstep can work very well if they are done right. Unfortunately I think this still needs alot of work. You've got your timing down, and various little sounds and fills in, But your drums are not good at all. They are really hollow. Have you got any high hats in there at all? It sounds like its just a bass and a snare. And a pathetic snare at that.

Beef up the drums and I'd overlay the singing with the beat and the bass towards the end again. Lookup stenchman - I put a spell on youtube and hear how he does a remix of a classic song.

    Otherwise very good attempt! :)

this has has the potential to be very good, unfortunately where it is at the moment it just doesnt cut it. The drums need to be better defined, they need compression, and the drum hits you're using are just quiet and boring to be honest. You need to get a good hard kick in there and a loud combination of claps and snare's layered instead of that rim shot you have going on or whatever it sounds like.

But as with all dubstep songs, the potential is in the synth your using. Im not sure what it is but the clarity and complexity in what you've programmed is very good. This could be a really good song with a little bit of work. What synth is it your using? I noticed you used fruity loops too. I'd like to have a go at finishing this one if you'd like. I think it has a lot of potential.

i like it. Its very odd. It has a good attitude. And i agree with numberjack its very industrial. i liked the weird synth at the beginning, altho not that hard to make, it was nice that it was all out of time and stuff. Im just not sure about the pianos, but i guess they give it a little extra. I like the way you just jump in and out of the beat every now and then. I must make more music like that. :P

    Lol!

I find this quite funny actually, its almost a piss take of dubstep, at least, i dunno, the lead synth just makes me laugh abit. (Not in a derogatory way). But yes the drums are good you have a lot of stuff going on in the background and I think the answer to your question is Yes it is dubstep, but I would either go all the way with the lead synth (and dont ask me what i mean by that because i dont know) or scrap it and work on a more interesting bassline, because the one you have here really doesnt do anything for me and its just a typical very easy boring synth that you hear on nearly everyone's first dubstep track. Dont worry, i make exactly the same too, you can go back and check, they are still on looperman :P

But your drums are very good. It suggest's to me that you've been playing around with music for a while? Theres some really good sounds in there that take practice to get done right and so I think once you get some decent synths down your then able to put your drums behind them and you'll be well on your way. :)

Ha ha! I get that feeling to! I couldn't really get a vibe from this piece apart from the drums and fx :) Yeah i've been making music for quite a while now but have pretty much ignored the dubstep genre, i've probably only listened to half a dozen dubstep tracks in my life!! so my knowledge of the style is quite basic :^) hence the soppy attempt at a bassline lol! I mostly make breaks/drum&bass and chill out with a few attempts at house/techno, I guess I need to have a proper listen to some dubstep to get the drift!! Do you have any recomendations ? I will of course check out a few more of your tunes and review, d'you wanna return the favour?? I appreciate your honesty :^)

Its a good song. What synths are you using for this?

There are some really good sounds in here, i think with a better structure and a lot of work on the drum beat it has a huge amount of potential to be very good. You should send me the patches to remix it.

:) but well done. good synths!

Your getting really good with your synths these days, Massive is really working for you. Its amazing if you go back and listen to your earlier tracks to see how far you've come.

Im not a massive fan of the voice, but it was funny when you stopped it all and just said 'gay'.

As for criticisms, I dont like 'hear comes the drop', that ruined it alot for me, The drums arn't coming through loud enough, they either need some heavy distortion and then compression I think, im not sure what you've used already.

Good track though mate. well done.

Thanks for your review Chud, I realise the voice sounds a bit crap and the 'here comes the drop' is a bit of a spoiler but the whole point of this track was to remake the first track I ever made on FL, and that was what was in the original. Thanks for the words about the synths, Ive realised I just needed to take my time really.
Im not sure how.. but this has been signed up by a label in manc, with falcon, to be made into a longer EP.. just shows how far I have come indeed.
    Thanks again man

This is really good. The drums are just so well produced, and the effects are really used. Im very impressed. I think it lacks somewhat when you actually get to the bassline, it could have done with dropping in somewhat, but its a lovely sound track otherwise.

This is an odd one. I like what you tried to do with the bassline, but it lacked something for me. It was slightly muffled overall. Although i loved the squeaky background synth, that worked very well. The drums were nice but again they were repeated quite alot and got a bit boring.

The production wasnt too bad. But i reviewed this mainly because I liked what you had done with the squeaky and the bassline, although I think it could do with some more work.

    Good job though ! :) :S

This was good fun. The basslines are pretty original. My only criticism is that its a bit... clean. Maybe whack some distortion over all the synths and see what happens. Not too much though. But also it could do with more background action. It sounds like its just basslines and drums at the moment.

But i do like it. :)

i was actually playing around with some grimey distortion when i was writing the basslines up and it worked really well. just decided to try for a different sound to all the filthy basslines that are getting pushed out these days lol. but i might have to do a dirty mix of this one too... hmm... alright i'm on it. check back in the next couple days man.

Its good, i was impressed with the start of it, You dont often hear drum beats that well programmed here on looperman, but this ones definitely shows that you can produce drum beats well (if you made it yourself that is)

But your synths are quite standard and slightly boring. The overall song doesnt really keep me interested or give me anything to go 'wow that was clever' about. Its just a bit slow really.

Good drums though! I would take those drums and do some fast loud synths over them instead. Making 'deep, dark dubstep' is easy really, its all slow and you dont really need to take anytime in creating an intresting synth. Just use a saw and off you go.

Anyway good attempt for a first time. Well done.

huhaaah! i knew you'd get it one day, this is very, very good. I like it. It sounds very professional. I really like it. The sample is brilliant, wheres that from? You're certainly doing well with massive these days.

But, uhhh, I didnt like the bit where the sample says 'yes', it feels like a drop to me yet you drop it a bar or two later, but otherwise a top notch song. Im really impressed. But i think take out that calmer bit or else fill it in with some background crap, like a pad or strings or a sub or something. Good song though. Well, well, well, done. :D

Ha thanks Chud. I thought this one was pretty good to, its strange when it just comes together like that you know your onto something semi-decent.
The sample came from here http://www.soundboard.com/
    its got millions of them!
Just to address a few things, the bit where it says yes and you think its gonna drop but it doesnt, was intentional, kind of like a built in pull up. Wasnt sure if it would work, if you say it doesnt Ill take your word for it. The calmer bit in the middle does have a sub in it but its not all that powerful, its the same thats underlying the bassline through the rest. Might have to stick some automation on an EQ there to boost it. Maybe some syncopated string stabs or something there too.... as I said in the description it was more of an experiment than anything. Anyway, possibly the longest review-reply ever but thanks again for you review!

Lol i heard my messy organ sound in there! Its not a bad track, theres one part when you just have the kinda 'main' loop you've used and the drums but the drums are nicely stepped and it just works very well. Otherwise..Im not so sure, It just seems like you've piled all these sounds on top of one another in order to make a song, and it gets really really cluttered at times. I think the old saying 'less is more' applies!

    Keep it at tho! :)

Thanks man, :). I take it you mean the gritty "doi" type sound? But it's made in Massive...by yours truly, :). In Massive there's 2 modules at the bottom called Insert 1+2, and in there there's an effect called "Sample and Hold". I'm not too sure how it works, but it makes it sound all gritty, :).
Sure, I can send you the preset, you did get Massive in the end though didn't you?

    ahaaa!

i knew it was my preset! i instantly recognised it :) hehe its good to hear people using it!

The intro is great, Im not sure about the inter-changing snares, but the actual drum pattern itself is good. I would compress the bass drum somewhat, its quite muddy as it is; And as for the synth, experiment with some distortion on it, just hava go, it might be crap it might work well, but dont turn it up anymore, and also, Im not a massive fan of the bass line you have going there, I would spice it up a bit. Although, having said that, I dont know how I would.

hah. this made me smile as soon as it came on. that drum beat is so different. its not really dubby its quite funny. I would say though that you could do with working on the bassline automation somewhat. I think the pattern you have at the moment, is just...I dunno it doesnt sound very thought out that much. A thing i try and do sometimes is to just play the drum beat on its own and then image how the bassline should go to it, then you get a bassline thats following the drums and vice versa.

If you wanted to carry it on you could do with changing around the drum beat a little bit, and adding some other sounds into there, you know like little blips from the sh101 or summink like that.

funny song tho. made me smile!

Pretty good actually. I could tell it was made in reason though; but i cant put my finger on what it was that made me think that. But I heard the intro and i was like okay great whatever, then it dropped and really surprised me. So well done! Its a good little song. I think it could maybe do with some more structure work, its quite repetitive in parts, and almost sounds like you kinda just put a bunch of things together and looped them 2 bars, which isnt good.

But it does sound quite professional, its well produced, I have a feeling it might need more sub but i cant be sure as im listening to it on a laptop and its hard to tell. But overall well done, quite impressive.
