Awesome track. The instrumentals are cool, but I think the percussion is what really stands out for me. They sound very nuanced with little details thrown in here and there which sounds really awesome. I also really like the chilled vibe.
Cool jazz/funk/fusion... track! A gel of influences make me think of early to mid 70's stylized music. The guitar playing has a nice tone and effects on it and the keys and horn work well with it. I think the percussion is sufficient for a beat, hi hats being phased in and out is interesting. Nice mix too!
Reminds me of something Quincy Jones would do with the Brothers Johnson and Patti Austin on vocals.
Could also be Crusaders and Randy Crawford. I'll listen to it over the weekend and let you know if I come up with a melody that compliments your song.

Groovy! I haven't heard much of these jazz-y songs but this one is great! The percussions are stereorized well, with the pan effects and such. Was it live recorded?
I'm thinking this could be used for like an intro for a tv show, or a movie lol
would love to hear some vocals atleast, but this one already makes the cut!
Hi 2D2R, Thanks for listening, and for your encouraging words. Yeah...it was a live recording, and I spent a lot of time on the perc. So really pleased you mentioned that. Made my day :)) thx..

Thanks,
And that baby. SO CUTE. Look at that widdle cute face and those chubby cheeks. Just beautiful. Sigh.
Nu Jazz would have been called Jazz Fusion back in the day. Many of the R&B groups had a background in Jazz before having funk music hits in the US. Groups like Kool and the Gang, Lakeside, Mandrill, The Commodores and others had a mixture of guys who studied music in college and others who played by ear.
It's kind of ironic that I'm working on 60s music featuring big voiced UK singers (Celia Black, Shirley Bassey, Lulu) and you're channeling some of the hottest throwback USA funk around.
Thanks again Wikkid...yeah, he is cute 'aint he :)) My grandson, age 4 now. Leon Hendrix Wild, how cool is that name :))
I still think it's more groovy than funky. But that's probably got more to do with the way I dance than anything else :)) But I do like the tag 'Nu Jazz'. It makes it sound like I know what I'm doing. A bit more sophisticated than 'urban groove' I think :))
It is ironic that you're working on 60's music. As that is exactly what I'm doing. I'm working with a vocalist on something in a Small Faces stylee. Oh...and don't forget to add Dusty Springfield to that list of yours. Maybe not a 'big voiced' UK singer, but the BEST around at the time.
Can't say I'd put this in the electronic box. It is such a cool sound though! I think I probably agree with everyone else so far re the things it reminds them of. I'm convinced this would sound fantastic with the right vocalist the right lyrics. No rapping just brandy glass cool. Please do carry it forward very interesting vibe.
Love the 'brandy glass cool' comment and really pleased that you enjoyed the vibe. Yeah, I know it's probably in the wrong category. But I'm a newbie....which category would you suggest, and how would I do it...
I too am convinced this would sound fantastic with the right vocalist. Don't know about 'No rapping' though. I'm open to any and all ideas and suggestions.
Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. You're a gent...

I'm curious. Did you mean to go this far back? Cause this put me in mind of the stuff I used to cover back in the 70s (Herbie Hancock, Mandrill) I've got a few Young-Holt Unlimited LP's with this type of extended groove.
You really captured the feel of that era. I dunno if I'd call this strickly electronic. Maybe Nu jazz? I hope others chime in.
Hi, Thanks for your kind words, and for taking the time to listen and comment on my work. Much appreciated.
Yeah...I'm not sure about it being 'Electronic' either. But there wasn't a category available, in that drop down menu, that described what I thought it was. I call it urban groove, but I think I prefer Nu Jazz....is there such a genre. I've got something similar that I might post next, that is very similar, but more jazzy...I think. I've only just joined this place, so I'm just feeling my way around atm. Still not sure what is the best way/place to post my work to get the best exposure. So any advice would be most welcome.
I agree that it needs that 'updated' tweak. I'm hoping to get a vocalist/lyricist interested, so I've left plenty of room, and just left it as verse/chorus, hoping that the lyrics/vocal will lead to, or suggest, where some sort of breakdown should be. Then there's mixing and production, so loads of time yet for that tweak....
Anyway, Thank you again for your encouraging words. You are very kind. I hope something really nice happens to you today...

Yeah, this is funk-a-fied. Gotta listen a few more times. Good job. I'm hearing Bill Withers and yes, I agree with Indieground's David Byrne influence.
But dang, this is full of old skol touches. Sliding bass line, wah wah guitar, clavinet? sounds, Okay, this needs Norman Whitfield, STargaard (Which Way is Up whoa whoa whoa Owww) type harmonies.
But its still gotta have that updated touch. Hmmm. LEmme think.
Thanks for your kind comment. Really pleased you liked it. You're the first person to comment on my stuff in this forum , so thanks for that as well.
Talking Heads/Artist....that David Byrne ? Wasn't a massive fan, but I did like a few of his songs, and thought he was a clever and engaging performer, and very imaginative and creative......so I'll definitely take the compliment.....tanks
