Yay, those changes really did it for this track. I can't really put my finger on all the changes, some feels very subtle which is great. In all it feels much more interesting now, without being a whole new track. Great work, and glad I could be of help! =)
Thanks a lot for your helpful critique, Paradoxal. It really WAS helpful. I read your comments, listened again and agreed with everything you'd said. So, I'm glad the final version met with approval. :) Appreciate the help of all those who reviewed!
this is a very nice track what i look for in any track is clarity i want to hear the drum loops and all the individual parts and well this has it all and i like this very much i do like the sub you used that comes in i would have loved to have heard a bit more bass on it but thats just me overall great track and i am going to fav it keep them coming dude
Hm.. I'm not that much into drum n bass, but I'll try to give some feedback on this one.
The first thing that comes to mind is that it's too.. predictible. As TimmyTrash said, the flanger effect on the drum was really cool, but after a while I loose interest in it since it's heard throughout the whole song. Same goes for the bass, it sounds good, but I would like to hear some variations in melody/effects in it.
An other thing that I felt while listening was the emptiness in the mid-low upper spectrum. I know drum n' bass sometimes isn't much about melodies, but one thing I thought might give this song a kick is to add a subtle piano 2-3 minutes into the song which builds up by playing more often and more louder over a course of ~2 minutes, and then add a klimax at the end with a catchy piano or synth melody. (yeah, I'm a sucker for Pendulum)
Other than that, I think it sounds great. Good choises of sounds and mixed well. I liked that there's a lot of sounds and effects flying around.
Thanks Paradoxal. I have taken note of what you said, and after reading the review and listening again I decided you were 100% Correct so i've done a new version - I've switched the edits on the 8bar/16bar sections and tried to make it less predictable. I also took note of what Timmy Trash had said and have "beefed" up the string/pad sections (note for timmy: That was Absynth 4) - I've also added a few more sound FX and bits'n'pieces to keep the interest going. I think this new version is MUCH better. Thanks for the constructive criticisms guys. Appreciate it.
Yo dude, like your attention to detail drums wise. Like the little hats or the bongo's which btw pins the groove down nicely. I also liked the way you automated the flanger effect on the beat every 8 bars or whatever. Id say add some more one shot hits/effects & stereo interest basically. And i think you should improve the atmospheric sweep style synth, did you use albino 3 for that? It sounds a bit thin. Try using some chords or just layering up different octaves in the midi. Btw, i thought the bassline was sick too. Big up! :)
Your comments are gratefully received and I've done a new version. I replied in detail to Paradoxal's comments - so see there what I've said... Check out the new version though!! cheers!
