Wow only 30 friggin minutes. This is great for 30 minutes. I'd be still sitting here trying to find a million loops. Lol Sometimes it takes me hours to find and select ones I like and ones that work together. But I'm no producer either, so...there's that. Anyway, it's a very simple, short and artistic piece of work that I couldn't do in 30 days let alone 30 minutes. I'm jealous and hope to be as good as you some day Mahloo! I will keep working on it! :-) Great work!

Pretty good cover. I feel like this singer enunciates clearer than the original singer lol. I feel like the drum is a touch too weak, but the guitar tones sound awesome.

Hehe, the original had a "no f's given" attitude, those were the tines back then. The problem with the drums is programming, especially cymbals, regardless how you sample them drum vsti's will sound fake and I'm mainly reffering to the cymbals especially, just cant beat the inconsistencies and tonal changes of a live played drum set. I've re-amped the guitars since they are provided as clean direct input signals.

    Thanks for the listen.

Yep. This is fallout boy all over the place. Pretty straightforward bar band kinda cover too. If some drunken dipshit was yelling "Play some Fallout Boy!,"for the bar on Saturday Night, the band could do this & it would well satisfy. Great cover.

I admit I don't know the original song, but this work is perfect, the voice is very similar to that of the FOB singer, the guitars have the right volume, maybe the drums would deserve more evidence, but overall it's a work of excellent quality, extremely clean and professional! My warmest congratulations!

Yeah after another listen. I believe you. It is a cover. you can clearly hear that is not the original singer. IDK what I was smoking the other day. It's a great cover tho. The Dj Bean has a pretty close voice to the real vocalist.

    Mahloo13

You would be surprised on how close some of the singers can get to sounding like other famous singers. Overall its a pretty generic voice for this style of music and I mean that eithout any disrespect towards the original artists.

Good cover, does the original justice, the mix sounds great!

Interesting to see the comments on how close it is to the orig.? I tend to try to bring my own feel to covers but who cares if this doesn't. You are showing your mixing skills while giving the band a little exposure here, everyone wins!

Good job all around, band sounds good and so does the song!

    Cheers!

Thank you for the words! Since I only made the mix and the master I couldn't quite change the overall feel or style, it was meant to be as close as possible to the original.

You've pointed out really well the exposure thing, it's a win win situation, and since I have been mainly mixing and mastering throughout my career it seems appropriate to back up my words showcasing some of the mixes. I just can't post anything that goes through major releases for obvious reasons, and besides, getting clearances to post previews of such projects would be a pain. Every single cover I've posted is clear to be posted and it's up for discussion regarding techniques used, tips and tricks etc.

Hey Mahloo, yeah this is a real nice version. I like the clarity and maybe improved dynamics over the released version. I'm also hearing subtle differences like lack of double track vocals in spots etc.. A lot of the hard questions from the others really stem from Loopermans rules about posting copyrighted material. I doubt if they even know much about the song or even bothered to listen and compare. In any case my suggestion would be to be very careful though. I like doing covers myself and currently have 2 in my track list, one by KoRn and another by the Truckfighters. Mine are not nearly as close to the originals as this sounds but irrespective of that, I imagine Shan's not really concerned at how good we are at reproduction. He just doesn't want to get caught up in any legal issues. And it's important to understand that he is really the one at risk here. He hasn't said anything to me directly but he has issued a thread with warnings on this very subject. Not sure if you have seen it or not.

    https://www.looperman.com/forum/thread/188406/warning-remove-tracks-in-breach-of-copyright

I'm not in any way judging you or attempting to play Policeman here. That would be very hypocritical on my part to say the least. Only wanting to give you the heads up bro.

    Mahloo13
    Reply by Mahloo13

I totally understand what you are saying and you are probably the first to notice the differences, no double tracks, no synths and fx in the background etc.. I'm well aware of regulations regarding copyright in the industry and I can assure you this will not get anyone in trouble. I'll update the post with links to the files so others can download and use them, perhaps make their own version. I just have to go back to the session info and check for the details but I do remmeber seing the files on different sites in the multitracks for practice category. I'm sure they are easy to fin. It's perfectly legal to post covers regardless how similar they are as long as it's clearly stated than the song is a cover. I have no issues taking down the song if need be, but I doubt anyone will be in trouble for this.

Almost indistinguishable from the original artist's song and vocals

    Mahloo13
    Reply by Mahloo13

I'll take that as a compliment however the differences are there. The vocal itself is a pretty good giveaway, the original is higher pitched and not so nasally sounding. They are clearly different voices. I've enabled downloads for the song, you guys can download it and compare with the original.

Are you sure this is a cover? I hope you are not lying...lol b/c it sounds just like the lead singer from the real band. This could be some demo you had or found before the song blew up. I know covers songs are supposed to be exactly the same but damn who ever that is singing sounds exactly like ol boy from FOB...sounds great btw.

    Mahloo13
    Reply by Mahloo13

It's a cover band. The vocals are generic for this style of music and there are a lot of singers that could pull off a great performance. As I said it's a cover band, I'll have to check the notes cause I believe the files are available online for mix practice purposes, it's in no way connected with FOB, and I wouldn't be able to post anything related to the real FOB due to obvious copyright issues.

I am glad you liked it!

Metalcore Malu, yeah man this is absolutely brutal dude! I hadn't heard this song in like 10 years but this is a badass cover man. What gives, is this actually DWP or a cover band? Details? So funny but I would wager not many listening realizes DWP is a Christian band ! Anyhow props on the mix, sounds great. I severely punished my studio monitors reviewing this lol!! Hope they survived.

Haha! It's a cover band. With the appearance of platforms like Distrokid, youtube etc. a lot of folks take advantage and release covers to boost interest in their particular band which might approach a similar style. It really is great to be able to work on something like this and try to match the sound of the original without access to all that gear they've used.

And yeah there are a lot of Christian bands that have taken an aggressive direction sound wise.

    Thanks for the words!

Holy crap, blew me out of my mixing chair, powerful right from the first note!

How the vocalist can even talk after a show or a recording session always amazes when they use this technique. I give them tons of credit.

Mix is loud, powerful, guess it pretty much matches the music genre. Would sure be off it the mix wasn't limited as much as it is, giving it that punch.

Not my usual listening material so it's hard for me to, off the top of my head, compare it to what I've heard recently. It's loud. Really loud. Maybe I'm just getting too old, ha!

Sounds good, goes with my coffee buzz perfectly!

    Cheers!

    Hey hey Wayne,

It feels good to see some of the old users still being around.

The vocalist is just fine :)). It's technique more than anything.

The limiter is actually there to bring the volume up, the punch is there even in the mix without any limiting, it's all in the balance of the individual tracks. But yeah it is loud, really loud even for my taste :))

And speaking of coffee I gotta get me some as well"

    Best wishes!

It's great to be able to connect with some of the oldies but goodies around this place again. :-)
I have no idea why, but I didn't expect those vocals. Haha
They totally caught me off guard.
Course I'm not one for the technical stuff,
but in the right mood this song would totally bring out my wild side, or maybe my angry side. Hehe

When I looked at that Wav. graph I knew I was in for a hard ride HaHa...I am reminded of some of the early tracks from Hugh Dillon`s Band (Headstones) that I needed to listen too since our Son is a buddy of High`s....The mosh pit would kill this ol boy now.....My ears don`t allow me to comment objectively of the production issues you note....but I can sure say with authority...This is one freeking good hard rocking song...can`t imagine fans of the genre not loving it.....cheers....Ed

It's really pleasing to hear something as "real" as this, especially in these times. There always seems to be something missing from a completely virtual composition/sound design effort, and it is something which is not missing in this song. You already mentioned the mp3 conversion, and really that is the only thing I hear which is bothersome in this. The song, while being a style which I don't listen to often, has a lot of artistic talent and effort put in on the part of the performers. Definitely a fun one to hear, and it sounds like they will have some success with this mix! Great work!
