Hiya Mark, Thank you! Your drums were just perfect for my wee song! Not so sure about the voice lol, but it's the only one I have, so need to just run with it :p Bears bass & Allen's guitars were a gift too! M :)
You have one H of a band there Marie....but then, they are backing up a mighty fine vocalist.....very smoooooth indeed..enjoyed this one....well done....Ed
Thanks Ed, & apologies, I thought I'd replied to this already! Going senile I think, lol! Yup, helluva band, huh? & the only one who knew anything about it was AllenV, lol! Thank you so much, this is one of the first songs I wrote, so I was pleased to get it out of my head, lol! M :)
well, whatever you did the sound is crystal - cascading and coruscating - i wouldn't care if this was played over a phone - it's a really moving song with wonderful perfs all around - utmost respect, Marie
Always impressed by your ease of adapting your voice (at least that's what how I feel) .... Again, I can only congratulate you on the choice of "artists" who worked, virtually here .... It's excellent ....
Thanks Brian, Its exactly the same mix, just mastered a bit differently. My first mix had way too much bass & was buzzy, but I broke my headphones & was using cheapies, & couldnt hear the bass . JoyfulWAVE helped me fix the mix, so its more his work, lol! I'm learning bit by bit! Marie :D
Thank you so much- what a poetic way to describe my song, I'm touched! Ive just uploaded anothe version of it, as I wasnt keen on how the vocals sound on this one.
I join with our friend "Bear", for congratulate you on this work, and this high quality design. Your choice of support, and those you accompanying are very appropriate .... Nice voice also .... Thank you for sharing this musical experience ....
Very nice Marie :) This one has the old Motown sound to it, even has an analog feel to the mix (that's hard to do with digital stuff these days). For your first song on FL you are certainly setting the bar really high.
Nicely chilled (loved Allen's guitar work). Really a great tune to unwind with at the end of a long day.
Thanks Bear, Im glad I got this one out from the murky recesses of my "brain" lol! I just loved Allens guitar on it, even if he was cruel & sent me two solos to choose from! Not an easy choice! Maybe once I have the older songs done, I can do something with the great music you sent me!! Marie :D
Hey MarieDailly...you can do these smoooooth blues on my radio any day..nice job on the vocal & the backing music is just where it should be...your production is just fine..you have the bass EQd where it should be and the relative volumes & soundstage placement are just fine....good for you....keep on....Ed
Thank you Ed! I can't take any credit for the great music, I used it just as I got it! That was all Mike K. I have a good teacher when it comes to the production- JoyfulWAVE is teaching me & supervising my efforts, lol! Thanks for the compliment on the vocals :) Marie
i'm starting to get into this bluesy sound just off late as i've heard a lot of good numbers from other artists over the past few weeks. You can tell you've listened to a lot of this style as it's all set out very professionally and everything sounds great What i particularly like is it has a real "smoky room" live feel to it which add's another level of depth and atmosphere. Great work here. Really enjoyed this piece. FR
Thanks so much FR :) Yup, I love my blues & would like to do more. I spend more time writing lyrics than singing lately, though. I had a great time dreaming up the lyrics for this, & the music Mark very kindly gave me to play with was superb!! I'm a big fan of his, so I was truly honoured! I was surprised at how well this came out, but then I had JoyfulWAVe to mix & master it for me, so that can't be bad, lol! Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it! Marie :)
I thought i'd cruise over and check out your tunage as you were nice enough to comment in Mr V's thread. This makes me feel about five years old again with it's style and old school flavours. I'm not familiar with the origional track but that doesn't stop me from being able to connect with that classic 80's vibe. Lot's of energy and drama going on all at the same time so there's plenty of positive points going on here. i have to agree with Mr Maloo about the vocals though. They do get hidden away behind the music at times but aside from that this is a good track and i always think anyone who gets on the mic is far braver than i. well done. FR
Thanks! Yup, our Mr V is a special one! I didn't know the original either, but I liked it & thought I'd give it a bash. I agree about the vocals too, & we just might get round to a redo. I recorded it with a stupid wee mic in my lappy, & my voice isnt very loud (OK, my SINGING voice isnt very loud, lol) at the best of times. So JW got a very quiet recording, & had to try to fix that. Brave? I was petrified, lol!
But it was our first collab, so pretty special to us both. Thanks for reviewing it Marie :)
Not my cup of these this genre but i gotta admit you've recreated that exact period of time incredibly well.
Joyful wave did a fabulous work on this one. I do agree with Nuada that the vocals should come a bit up and lower a bit the level of the reverb just a bit to bring the vocals upfront.
I really like the saturated sound of that kick, almost a perfect emulation of the tape sound. I still can't believe how well this is produced, almost feel like you guys turned back the hands of time!
Thanks Malu! yup, my vocals weren't great, but I'd just started recording, & was so nervous, lol! I recorded it on my laptop!! But I hope to redo it at some point since I now have decent equipment & my personal producer, lol! TBH, I NEVER thought I'd ever do a dance track,(not my preferred genre either, but dont tell JW, I live with him, lol!) but I like the song, so it was a new experience for me! Thanks Marie :D
Ohh my i love the roomy feel on the overall track! I like the way you've interpreted the vocals and you kinda became a part of the actual song.
I don't really agree with the reverb on the vocals cause it's a bit to roomy in my opinion. I think a shorter plate combined with a wide room would have made a better impact on your voice and would have helped a bit the clarity.
I do however love the way you interact with that guitar...and it does make it sound as if this was recorded at a live performance.
Lol! Thank you Malu! This was a dream to do, but you'll guess that I dont understand the techy stuff, lol! If you mean it's a bit too echoey, I agree! :) I spend quite a whileon the lyrics & getting the right vocal melody for Mark's guitar track, which I loved before he let me muck around with it! Live? Hmm, thanks, just the effect I hoped for! :)
I actually have driven through Paris in a sports car! lol...unlike Marian Faithful who I could have sworn was initially singing this song!...There's heaps of influences running here,Jeez if I close my eyes Big Brother and the Holding Company float across the stage amongst others...cool stuff Marie! and cooler still that it's a Blues number, for some weird reason that genre hardly gets a look in these days..more power to you!..I dig it..cheers Dave :)
Thanks Dave! Again with the Marianne Faithful comparisons, lol! All that time I spent as a kid trying to imitate her paid off, LMAO! I'd love to do a cover of As Tears Go By. So glad you like it, & blues is my preferred genre. I've written a couple of other blues songs, but so far only really have the vocal melodies sorted out! But I have been sent some great stuff that I'll either use for those or write more lyrics for! This one was easier since I had the music to work from. Love mark's guitar playing! TY! Marie :D
This is not my genre, but this sounds great! Beautiful instrumental from Mark, your vocals go very well with the instrumental, nice blues vibe! Great track
I love the original version of this song, but this is also great cover,!I have to say that JW sings well,I heard him sing before, he has a good voice,of course and your vocal is great! Great work guys!Keep up good work
