Improve your mixing environment with some acoustic treatment to improve accuracy of what your actually hearing. Get really familiar with eq. Start out with cuts. Take the eq bring it down and sweep across the spectrum then up and down to see which frequency is causing issues. This can be done on vocals and the beat. That's just a basic starting point. I am currently using 2 Yamaha HS-8 monitors in an untreated 12 x 12 room. I feel comfortable using the EQ to remove or boost frequencies on individual elements though I need to work on getting all the elements to work together nicely where everything lives in its own zone of the EQ.
