Thank you so much for the listen, your time, and even commenting. This is my first dubstep attempt, and to see it receiving positive feedback is amazing. I honestly almost cried when I first played this through my gym's stereo today. After being dumped Friday, I needed this kind of experience. Thanks again man, truly.

You're onto something, I really enjoyed the first half... nice production, choice of sounds and beat. However the latter part felt out of place to me, not that it's bad or anything, just not the same feel as the intro... less dark and more kid-friendly bubble gummy, a little like early 90s Nintendo theme music. Of course that might be exactly what you're going after. In which case, it's a wrap. Glad you uploaded and I hope my critique is not taken as negative. -DF

    JustTony
    Reply by JustTony

It's not negative at all, bro. The track is light in nature since my friend wants to have a superhero show where he's like The Flash. That's all I really know. I wasn't given a description of the character's persona. All I had to go off of was "...make it something like the live action Flash theme and Smallville theme with an electronica twist." So! That's exactly what I tried.

On more personal tracks though I have to get away from that video game sound. It's really crept into my work, and I consider a part of my style loving VG music to death; But I also want to get more out of my tracks and get complexity going like my girlfriend wants me to. She wants me to sound more like VNV Nation. So I'm going to have to try and find a balance between my simplistic, "cyberpunk" (that's loosely stated to mean punk's simplicity, structures and melodic playing a la electronica) and definitely layering more stuff up and escaping the purist video game sound without entirely losing myself in there somewhere.

I appreciate the kind words and honest opinions on this. Thanks for listening!

On its own it does get long, so I see what you mean about its momentum. However, the emotion shines strong, in my opinion! This is a complete, and epic piece that's simply fun to listen to!

The solution; put it into a video game! :P This is boss-battle material to say the least :)

That's one of the most BA reviews anyone has ever given me, so total kudos to you bro! Man, if I knew anyone that could use it in a video game I would gladly hand it over to see what they could do with it. As I said in the description, I had made it for a friend to use in a music video. But I'd be all up for using it in multiple media outlets. Seriously, thanks for the review and even suggesting putting it in a video game. That makes my day. If you like VG stuff though, check my track Nintendo Forever for some real nostalgia. Haha!

Thanks bro. The song just didn't have the momentum needed to really stand out, but I still think it's a decent track. Others I do stand out a bit more, like the mentioned piano piece Your Heart in My Hands. That's a track I'll have to try and outshine sometime, but I don't suspect it'll be soon. Thanks for reviewing.

Thanks for the kind words man. The only critique I perhaps had about it were that the drums were too powerful when I went and listened to it in my car. At least when compared to the other tracks I put with it on my little sampler I'm passing out at my band's gig this Saturday.

If you like this track though, you'll probably really love Altef Fuore (read Alt F 4), the new "intro" track I made for the sampler. I can upload it either today or tomorrow for listening. So be sure and look for it!

Not at all a problem. I see you around on the Looper a lot, so to have you stop by and review my track is an honor. I grew up on video games; especially early RPG titles such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, Ultima (NES version) and others. They really had an impact on my mental development early on I believe. Or at least I think. So video games will always have that sort of place in my heart, and continue to serve as an inspiration for my music.

Who knows? Maybe we'll have to colab on something along the same vein as this track sometime; mixing up 8-bit memories with some favorite synth sounds.

Haha. Glad that you loved it bro. I tried to mix 8-bit flare with electronica grooves. I just love to arp sounds, so that's why that's in there a lot. The 8-bit mid part I had to keep simple and reminiscent of old school Nintendo games. It was really just a lot of fun to make, I swear. Thanks for checking it out. I'm very inexperienced when it comes music so my synth lines and bass lines consist of simple scales so when I listen to songs (particularly when listening to DnB, Dubstep and Electronic music as well as anything with an 8bit sound) I try to study the synths and the basses and drums to see how they sound and the notes that are played. I try to pick up what I hear and integrate that with I know to better myself. In the case of your song, I'm terrible at making interesting lines and common video game sounds using 8bit so if I listen to your song I'll have a better understanding of what I need to do.
I don't actually get a chance to study the work of others though, I'm too lazy. haha

Mixcraft huh? I tried it back when I didn't destroy my PC, wasn't a big fan. Each to his own. xD You're good with it. =] I'm still looking around for good free VSTs, I did however buy two plug-ins and downloaded a bunch of AU which did improve my music a bit. We'll do a collab or something in the future most definitely, I just have to improve a bit before I'm ready to though. I'll check out your loops.

This was pretty good mate! I learned a lot from this track. Hopefully I can incorporate what I've learned from this track to make my music a little better. Sorry I couldn't give a good review. Good job and I hope the members in your group like it.

Haha. I'm a lot like you man. I'm only using Mixcraft 5.2 to do my stuff, with all soft synth VST's I've gathered up over time. I'm curious as to what you learned from listening to it though. I'd definitely like to know.

But yeah, me too about the group. Sometimes it's hard impressing nerds, you know? They can be very picky sometimes. I loved arp'ing the hell out of my sounds in this track though. I love arp sounds, that's for sure. But yeah, thanks for liking it, listening to it and making it a favorite. I appreciate it all bro. Maybe we'll colab on a song in the future or something. And feel free to check out my loops, what little I have up thus far.

You should check the volumes of your drums in the second part. It's not even. I guess it's because sometimes there are 2 different Kicks or Snares (not sure) hittin at the same time and sometimes not, which results in different volumes. But I think you are already aware of it. Smooth Track by the way.

Yeah, it's a little rough and I should have maybe taken a closer look on that. The blame rests on me mixing using only my headphones. Other than that, I think it's one of my better works in the electronic field. I appreciate you taking the time to listen to it and review it. I love it when fellow Loopers do that. Also, thanks for the compliment. Glad you enjoyed it bro.

I'm still learning as I go along. I didn't have reverb, a compressor, eq or anything going on in that recording. I'm doing that a little more with what I'm doing now. It still won't sound studio quality though, because I'm only using a $30 Rock Band PS3 mic. But hey, that's all I've got. But I'll use it to the max, ya feel me? Say what you can with what you got, do what you gotta do with what you gotta do it with. D.I.Y. to the extreme. Thanks for the review Cufool, I preciate it.

Thanks for getting at me with your review. I've got a ways to go as a performer in terms of rapping. I'm taking the advice of another reviewer and trying to find my voice and natural flow. In this case you're right, it was just written out and not really a flow at all. I'll get better with time, but it'll take me a while to get there. Glad that you liked the rest of it though. Give me time and check my future tracks, you'll see a difference. Or even check out other attempts of mine, say like Reflections. With that, peace be with you Isrealah!

What I do like about this track is that it's short, yet it has a mystery about it and how it does seem to flow pretty well together, despite the instrumentation having no rhythm at all, really.

I'm sorry I copied a part of your discription but it was just so well said! :D

From a rapper stand point. I'd practice freestyling. Freestyling is where you'll find your flow and persona. Meaning don't write it, just hit record and see what you say. Then repeat.
Even if you repeat words, just keep goin. Do a few cuts each to 5 very diffrent beats.
Easiest way to learn to freestyle is settle on a fill in word. like "m***** f*****r" or "im back" or whatever you wanna use to fill in with. Its not a word you ryhme with, but used to help allievate your brain. So you can continue without stoping. Merely fills in the sentence of a bar. After enough time, you wont need a fill in word.
Writting wont really develop your voice/persona/flow. But it will help with lyricism.
    Keep it movin.

Wanted to get at you and say thanks for the constructive criticism. I'd been telling my girlfriend I need to learn to freestyle and work on my flow. I'll listen to rappers I enjoy and they can spit for 16 bars are so and flow nicely or even change the flow of the delivery and sound so smooth. Then again, they may use punch ins when recording, I dunno. But either way, I agree it's a skill I need to pick up on.

As Ghost AKA, the name I'm circulation, I'm aware of some things I'd like to talk about. They range from racial integration of the hip hop scene and many of us suffering the same social and financial barriers, to my take on the military having gotten to experience it briefly before being discharged, to even politics and world issues of the day. Of course I want a fun, off the wall song here and there like even Tech N9ne is likely to do that may be about the supernatural or religion, or anything like that.

So I'll try what you're saying bro. If you've got any more tips message me sometime. I appreciate you taking the time to listen as well as try and help a fellow rapper in training so to speak. I preciate it. Peace be with you bro.
