I like it, I would add a deep bass every once in awhile to give it some dimension. But that's just me.

    Good job.

    Hey man,

What a cute track. Those little plucky squary harmonies and the very humble drums give it such a sweet feeling.

Also the arrangement is very elaborate and full of interesting changes en melodies, I can feel the work that you put into this. I highly respect these kind of tracks so keep it up! Despite the longer-than-average length it didn't bore me out.

I get some strong 8-bit videogames vibes from it as well, which is cool. It does mean that the track sounds quite bare and basic: the synths all sound like they have only one wave form and that's it. But this could be a style that you adapt, I dunno.

ALSO MAKE IT LOUDER. YOU LEAVE A LOT OF SPACE UNDERNEATH THE 0 DB LINE. DON'T BE SHY, CRANK IT UP. Don't overcompress it though.

I hope you like my rambling. If you didn't, I'll just say: its good

This is quite the fun track! I think you did great with the sampling here!

This puts me very much in mind of some of the Aphex Twin that I have enjoyed in the past, but perhaps a bit less mind boggling than that. It's meant as a compliment, as I can barely listen to Aphex any more (not enough drugs in my blood any more).

If I was to break down and get a Volca, it would have to be the sampler... it would fill a gap in my hardware, and it seems like a fun box to experiment with. I could see it being an excellent thing to go along with the monotribe. Obviously it can be used with great results, since that is exactly what you got here!

Lovely playful melodies, and a cool raw sounding mix. My kind of thing!

Definitely a fave! Thank you for the download!

    Hey there,

Very interesting and well-rounded track. The simple 8-bit style really compliments the different synths and the lack of reverb and other effects give it this simplistic, clear sound that makes you appreciate it more. It really stands out and I like that! Ga zo door :D

I thought I turned off my featured song, but I didn't. Woops! Thanks for listening though! This was a test song to see what I could do with minimal effects. Although you probably need effects to make some things sound better! Anyway, thanks for the nice words! I am glad you liked my minimalistic approach :) En bedankt!

My apologies for not responding sooner! Thanks for listening, I appreciate you having some kind of vision with my song. For me as a 'composer' that is most important. If people can paint me a picture of what they think or feel with my music, than in my opinion I have succeeded! Again, thank you for taking the time to write a comment and thinking of retro games :)

Thank you for your time! My apologies that I haven't really had the time to respond. I usually try to answer ASAP. Now, looking back on the song I think it is a little bland at some points. I tried to use as little effects as I could, that is what added the classic video game vibe. But hey, the more you know :)
Also I used a lot of square waves to make the synths, so that also contributes to the video game vibe!
Thank you for listening and giving feedback, I really appreciate it! Also, thanks for the compliments!

Nice one here. The instruments chosen remind me of an attari game and hat brings back memories. The track is very catchy and makes me want to dance.

That wasn't my intention, but man, now that I am listening to some Atari tracks I can't help but notice the similarities. I can imagine that some of my experimentation with new sounds might also share some similarities in how the 4bit/8bit sounds were created in an Atari game system. But that is just guesswork. Thank you for your compliments, I have spent quite some time on this track, so I am happy you liked it!

Hey, this is cool. Very easy to listen to. Harmonies are interesting enough and match up well.

I like the use of portamento with the gated(?) synths toward the end of the track. Really cool space-beach vibes. Windsurfing on neptune!

I have made this track some time ago. It's funny, here in the description I still wanted to buy the Volca FM hahaha. I still really like the 80's plucky sounds though. I must say that this site has taught me a lot. If I personally compare this song to my newest song 'Neon Tokyo', the quality has gone up considerably. This has been from all the feedback I have gotten over these past 3 months.

I have used gating heavily throughout the track. This track was basically the first time I was really experimenting with it. I have used 'Gross Beat' to get those gated synths towards the end. I am glad you like the space-beach vibes! And windsurfing on neptune is a really cool way to describe it! Thanks for taking the time to listen to it!

    What bright, bubbly creation!
I see what you did and I really like it. It's so catchy (and crafty) that before you know it, there's a head bob and shoulder action.
Made me think of Malibu Barbie getting trapped in a PAC Man video game, and I mean that in a good way, coming from an old soul who has dabbled in just about every musical genre there is. Wanna feel like a kid again? Well this is neon Tokyo at night, party time for adults only in Kabukich.

You set a goal and succeeded. Gonna make this a fave, since its a great pick me up instrumental.

I absolutely love people describing what they imagine when they listen to something I made. I always listen to the song afterwards and see the image in my mind that people described. I am glad that you enjoyed my song and that you even favorited it! You understood what I tried to tell with the song.

I've even listened twice because I can see it is well put together and I'd like to get past my prejudices but nope.
This time I sat and closed my eyes and right from the off I sensed a game show host with slick hair a neon smile and dancing girls in sparkly shoes aimed at the average family and remembered why I got rid of my telly twenty years ago.
I didn't get all the way through.
Sorry mate but Simon says no.

You probably think that this is something that would disappoint me, but you have made me happier than you'd think. I am sorry that it reminds you of unhappy thoughts, but I have modelled it on a genre that is a reflection of consumer society. It wonders how to deal with multiculturalism and the downsides of technology. In this song, I have basically surrendered to that feeling and I went with the flow. It ended up a lot more cheerful than I was planning on. I had the concept of neon signs in mind and I went through with it.

But, unfortunately the song in its nature is the exact opposite of what you are. But still, I am glad that it triggered the feeling that I tried to transfer. Thank you for your story and your feedback :)

PS: Also, I am really glad that it sounded professional to you. Thanks!

I'm coming from two sides at this one ... one of which you probably won't like but here goes.
It is very well put together.
    Professional even.
You obviously know how to produce music.
The downside for me is it is absolutely soulless.
A bit like the consumer society I feel so uncomfortable living with as I see it devour the planet and its inhabitants.
I was born in a big town did the city living but now live in the mountains.
I am happiest amongst trees and rivers.
To get me anywhere near a neon world you'd have to drag me.
So as you can see I'm biased in the extreme.
Last time I visited London I was convinced I was in an open asylum.
Couldn't wait to get back to my mountains.
So I see a soulless lifeless work of the consumer mentality from a very good producer.
    50/50 from me.

Thanks for giving me some feedback as well! I am glad you enjoyed it. I have basically 2 modes, either super calming jazzy music or very present modern electronic music. The keys aren't originally mine though, so I would recommend that you also listen to the original! I have slowed it down and changed the pitch, to fit my idea that I got while listening to the original song. So, thanks for your comment and time!

Jammin and jazzy stuff here! Pleasing to the ears, and unique for these modern times. The mixing seems quite appropriate for this style, and everything is audible. I'm not sure that my saturday mornings are like most people's, unless I start drinking very early, but I'm sure that in that case I could just put the song on repeat and love it. Very cool stuff!

    Wow.
Firstly, I am honoured that you thought that piano riff was good enough to create a track based on it.

I have to say that this version is amazingly good, probably even better than mine.

0:33 - 0:36 the vinyl scratching is a great touch.

The running notes around 0:56 - 1:07 really captured the feeling of a rainy afternoon well.

The pitchbend at 1:30 was a goosebumps moment for me.

1:53 was also a pleasant surprise.

Colourful chords throughout, with lots of variance in the percussion keeps my attention.

The outro was a little bit too long in my opinion.

    Fantastic track overall!

    Allochtune
    Reply by Allochtune

Your piano riff is really good. When I heard your song I immediately envisioned a scene in my head. I am a very conceptual musician. I start with a concept, a word or a scene and then I can start composing. That way I can give the listeners a feel of what I felt at that moment, convince them of it, so to say. That might sound weird, but that's the way I do it :)
I wouldn't say that my version is better than yours. It is just different. As I said in my comment on your song, you convinced me of that certain feeling that your song gives. That's why I gave it a fave. In my opinion, that is the mark of good music. Thanks for letting me use your piano riff as the basis of this song and also thanks for giving me the feedback! I am glad you enjoyed it. The outro might be a tad long, but I think that it fits with the chill of the song. I will say that the silence at the end is way too long. I'll see if I can fix that someday.
    Thanks again for everything!
