I like it! reminds me of some of the better 90's songs. 1 tip i found that I like to do in pro tool is that I set up inputs and outputs at a minimum, and save it as a template with my settings save them as templates so when i start to record I can record rather than get out of the mood to play by the time I get done setting up all the inputs and outputs etc :)
Well Hi Billy.. Glad you liked and thanks again for the listen and the comments.I Get a kick out of your 90's reference. as thats around the time I wrote it. Maybe a little earlier. And thanks on the tech talk.. I will remember that when I get a Pro tools set up .. but I do not have a Computer Daw as of yet.. I am currently using a Roland VS 2480 stand alone unit.. but plan on up grading soon.. thanks!!!
I Thank you Greatly !! HillBilly for both the Listen and the comment.. they both are greatly appreciated. Comments like that help to boost my confidence in my up coming en devour Being I've never been in or apart of a cover band before .. So I Have a tendency to over think things , So again, I thank you ..=O)
Hey Mahlu, I ve looked in my email and dont see anything ??? And I don't see or know how to get to anything on looperman ... i.e. is there some kind of message center on looperman stuff goes to ?? If so .. how do I get there to check my messages ??? That said.... My email is
The song itself is very good, just need to seperate the guitar and vocals by recording them independently if you havent already. This will give you more control over editing them
Hi Drdrizzae, And thanks for the listen... And compliment.. I did track the Guitars and vocals separately. I did a picking gtr track . then copied pan L pan R, did a Strum Gtr Part - copied then panned, and then vocals which I copied I think 8 times trying to thicken but dont think it worked ? . all that said. So do you mean then . I need to bring one or the other up or down in the mix ?? Again .. thanks for stopping by, the listen and the advice it is greatly appreciated..
Good vibes here. I sometimes use a freeware application called audacity to improve the sound. It's free and if you can overlay a couple of layers of your track to get a richer sound and also you can use the equalizer and compressors to move your voice a bit closer (it's a bit in the distance right now). And also, mixing is a complex thing to do and there is different ways to do it. I sometimes visualize myself beeing one of the audience watching myself on the scene just to put the panning right. If the choir is put on the left side with me in the middle I pan the choir a bit to the left.
Hi Aelman, Thanks for the listen and the advice / direction. I definitely have a lot to learn . Which is why I appreciate you and everyone's comments. they are very helpful . I am not using a computer DAW yet. However the recording mediam I am using ( Roland vs2480 ) has compressors, fx, eq.s, mastering tool kits .. etc.. built in that I can use.. and did use .. but not to there full potential.. lol.. I've heard a lot of recordings done on the VS .. and an amazing sound and recording is attainable with what I've got. So, unfortunately I can't blame bad mix, tone, or sound on my equipment..lol. But .. I will get there...+O) I've got faith ... along with a little OCD.. lol.. But with everyone's continued direction, comments and support.. I'll learn .. slowly but surly. So again.. thanks so much for your listen, comments and Direction.. I listen, read , and learn from each and everyone.... thanks .. =o)
this is a superb song with your amazing and strong voice...but it could be much better with a huge chorus part as a peak of the song with second and third backing vocs with you of course...I can advice only this musical idea cause for the mix there were Mahloo and Brado to tell you the 100%...:-)
Thanks a bunch for the compliments, thoughts and Ideas.. I agree I would like to figure out some harmony and or backing vocals for it.. as well as some sort of bridge or pumped up chorus.. Great ideas I thank you ..=O) Im curious on what you and or anyone else might think of some string sections ?? I hear some violins or strings and maybe synth or piano parts in there ?? Im going to eventually re-record it 1 more time trying tfor better mix, tone.. and maybe some re writes with as you stated backing vox maybe some strings harmonies.. and of course a bass... thanks.. gave me somethings to ponder and play with .. its greatly appreciated..=O)
Thanks 7land for the compliment and critique .. It is greatly appreciated.. When you say it can be better.. Would / could you elaborate ?? Do you mean the musicianship, song, recording, mix?? what would you change or do differently ?? And thanks for the listen and comment.. =O)
Pro tools, cubase, reaper...doesn't really matter which daw you use. I run protools because it's the norm and I need interchangeability with other studios and artists and I also like it a lot, and know it pretty well so I can edit really fast and be eficient with it.
As for recording/ mixing tips, feel free to ask questions, I'm always open for discussions. I do a lot of production work also, like taking peoples songs and ideas and working them into full productions with the artists themselves so feel free to contact me if you wanna go down that road. You've got a great voice that has potential for heaview, denser songs as well.
I am more then happy to work with anyone on anything.. Daw.. however.. i am not yet using a DAW.. I am using a roland 2480 that I just got in July.. which is light years ahead of where I was when i left music..lol.. ( early 90's) I decided on protools.. as like you said is the industry standard.. and I have no idea. of any of it.. so figured if im going to learn.. it might as well be on that.. Get it right going in and the rest is easier... kind of...=O).. Ill be posting more stuff.. need to get some better guitars.. a bass.. etc.. this was just a get my feet wet kinda thing.. this song is a song I wrote almost 20 / 25 years ago.. when I was around 17 /18 years old .. Ive got alot to learn.. but ..ill get there.. compliments like yours and Bradosanz.. gives me a good boost of confidence also..... so thanks so much for that....
Woah! Now this is a bit of fresh air. Great voice! You need a bigger song to perform on!
As for the mix, well it's pretty basic but works well. As a production advice you could double that rhythm guitar to make the record sound wider but also leave some elements mono to create movement. Loved the sound however and totally like your voice! Keep at it and thanks for sharing!
WOW!!!.. thanks so much for the great compliments and for listening to my song and giving me feedback .. it is greatly appreciated... I listened to your stuff.. N yeah.. great recordings and mixes .. I hope to be-able to get a sound / recording like that someday.. Seen your running Pro Tools... ill be finding you to pick your brain in the near future...lol... Im planning on building a pro tools rig after the first of the year.. and slowly learning it as Im learning in general... but again.. thanks so much for listening, commenting, and interacting.. with me,... it is greatly appreciated...=O)
Can you send me each track individually without any effects? To where if I were to drop them all into my studio DAW, it would sound just like this recording - but without any effects or anything applied. Raw.
yeah... I think so ... I can just send 1 picking gtr part 1 strum part gtr part, then 1 vocal track all separate .. which then you could put in your daw individually and summ dub, effect boost cut.. whatever ??? would that work ?? If so I could work on it tomorrow night ?? Maybe.. Im in Florida and Hurricane Mathew maybe heading towards us..lol.. so I might have to hurricane prep....
Wow, a Roland vs2480! I haven't seen those in a long time :) I really don't know how to explain it, it's fairly simple if you're working digitally but I'm not sure for the Roland! Do you send the Roland's recordings to a computer and then add effects to it before exporting?
No.. I do everything in the roland.. tracking, effects, mastering.. etc. then after I master it I burn it to a CD-R then pop it in my computer and "rip It" then Down load it here and sound cloud.. to be honest.. this was the first time I ever even "ripped" a cd .. so..that gives you an Idea of how far I am behind ...lol.. But to give an Idea of the tracks.. I think I have 4 Seperate Gtr. Rythem Tracks, 2 Sep. Lead tracks and It hink I copied the vocal track or " Summed "? the vocal 6 times.. so 6 tracks... lagging 2 of the tracks behind trying a vocal thickening trick.. which I will prob drop out.. as it just gave it a hollow sound.. In my opinion.. I sent you a message thing .. to your profile thing here..After I had visited your page n seen you do acapella stuff.. wondering if you were just wanting basically a raw vocal track alone then a separate Download of the guitar tracks mixed but without effects ?? I havnt yet put it to the VS Planet guys yet.. Im sure they will know how to do it.. there pretty awesome at that stuff.. and very helpful to newbies like me..lol..
Your voice is wonderful. If you want, you can email me the guitar track and the vocal track, both raw and without any effects. I have a little bit of experience mixing this kind of music, I'd be happy to try my hand at this one. Let me know, my email is on my profile if you're interested.
Wow.. thanks..for the compliment and the offer.. I would love to do that ... However... Im not very well versed in all this computer and digital stuff.. So Bare with me and my ignorance.. .. This was recorded on a roland vs2480 not a computer DAW.. So I am not sure how I could send you the individual raw tracks ?? And This is my first recording on this vs2480 as well.. lol... Ive only recently got back into music after having left it behind in the early 90's. I.E. Ive got some catching up to do... so any direction on how to do it would be great.. in the mean time... I will check with my " VS Planet " planateers.. who have been extremely kind and helpful in this en devour..And see if they might be able to guide me in doing so... Soo.. if I can figure out how to do it.. I will and would love to do it.. thanks Kyle..
Nice track I think the song is pretty good, there seems to be a little bit of extra noise in the track, a hissing noise I guess. This could be because of how loud you are recording. What is your input level set at? I typically record at about -6db so that it allows some head room to compress and eq,etc. It helps cut down on the hissing and other noise as well. Other than that I thought it was a good track. Thanks for sharing with us.
thanks for the comment Improv, And yeah.. I think I was trying to get the gain AS " HOT " ? As possible without clipping.. theres a few od noises I hear in there ...lol... and to much effect as well.. and sounds thin to me as well.. Im going to re-record the whole thing and maybe try to lower my input level ? I think I had it at staying fairly steady at-4db at its peak ? does that sound right ? and it was at the really hot spots going a little over that.. you can also hear me breathing during my solo...lol... but yeah.. I greatly appreciate your comments and direction feel free to give as much advice, direction etc.. as you feel..=O) As I am here to learn everything I can... Oh.. and lastly.. Im wanting to get a bass.. and throw in there which Im hoping makes the guitar sound less tiney ? Or rounds out the low end.. ?..
Thx.. I want to re-record it start to finish 1 more time.. But overall I think it came out ok... I still need to buy a bass guitar . I've got a sound cloud account now also.. So I can do a master of this and anything else without vocals if you want also or whatever kind of mix you want .. so as to play with it ... And after teh first of the year Im goping to buy / build a pro tools set up .. so that will make it easier to trans files also....

That'll work! Remember, no effects, just the tracks exactly the way they were recorded into it, before any effects or processing. :)
