Oh man, this is brilliant. Yep, the guitars in the back are just so fantastic, tickeling the taint ... Everything put together perfectly. Great work here!
How could I not listen this? I *love* King Crimson!
And some echoes of KC can be heard here... not too much though. But that's good. This is an original work.
The start is good. I enjoyed a lot the next section, nice bass work ;-) And a good usage of the keyboards. Liked. Then we have a section with a marked rhythm that will accompany us for a while. Good. Then some good riffs, with a good ratio "strange" to "bluesy" scales. Liked as well. Ciao, Domenico
Good! Liked it a lot. It has groove: liked the bass work here. Superb guitar work: a lot of little things "running in the background" The key-change works fine: it kind of breaks the track in two sections and keeps the hear awake (...and as you mentioned in your comment, probably you need it to join two other songs) The final "unisono" scale is tasty: liked! Ciao, Domenico
PS: at 1:53 you have a "noise" on one of the guitar tracks (plectrum noise?) ... nothing disturbing by the way
quite the track! i didn't expect it to be of this quality. not that there was any indication that it wouldn't be good... i simply didn't expect it! that is very likeable music to me and as far as i can tell it sounds excellent. i am currently on not-so-good speakers and it sounded still quite alright. kudos also for live drumming and what not, respectable tune man.
Very interesting composition! Good job for trying new things. The guitar solo around 1:14 is great, nice phrasing and note choice, I wish I could play like that lol!
wow it's very refreshing track to listen to i am too like the change at 1:14 just a bit of thought about your drums , maybe you can put it a bit out front at least the kick and snare sound so it will give more thump and power...or maybe it's because i listen from a crappy headphone T~T
which is which , this track will be one of my favourite :)
Hi MrJsYoung, Thanks for posting this very interesting track of yours. First of all, I liked it, a lot. One of the most interesting things posted around here in a while. Glad to have found you. I will keep an eye on you ;-)
A couple of words on the track: - it starts immediately and it starts with the most powerful section; good: straight to the point. - nice interplay between bass/guitar at 0:30; here the drums are a bit in the background but that's more than OK. I would say this is the song's main Theme (is this the phantom speaking?) - good change at 1:14; I like the "first note" with the doubled guitar on thirds giving it a broader sound. It's a small thing, but such details make the difference. - very funky bass part... how could I not love it ^_^ - at 2:06 we have a killer guitar solo; we have good licks, some wha, a bit of tapping and even "doubled-guitars" at 2:37 ... what do you want more? good - the reprise of the "metal" riff works very well. liked - weird scale at 4:10 ... liked it a lot - nice ending, a bit abrupt but it works very well here (did I like the fading keys? not so sure... but that's not important)
One possible thing to be improved: I like songs which are not over-compressed, but maybe a little more compression could help your track. I would also try to compress the drums separately on their bus, just to see if you can improve something that is already VERY GOOD. Ciao, Domenico
nice harmonies, nice playing also! new color at 1:05 is beautiful. might be some interesting ways to enhance transition to your new section at 1:50. thoroughly enjoy what you are doing here. all the best. Dan
Hi again. Youve got a good drum sound there. Must have a nice mic setup and a decent room. I guess youre also playing them.
Oh sure, I know loads about minor tweaking. And major tweaking! I create a lot of my parts from detailed cutting up and reordering guitar, bass and banjo jams. Lots of chopping up and automating of effects for synth parts too.
Your stuff sounds much more like a rock band than mine. Partly because of your starting off with a guitar track. My foundations are almost always electronic-based ie synth and drums (but programmed acoustic ones) and then I add loads of guitar, bass and banjo and more synths and stuff.
I always had the aim of making my stuff sound like a full band though I like the electronic feel too. I think yours sounds more like the full rock band.
I noticed you saying you dont get many comments on the site. Thats true but theres a simple reason why: you dont comment on other peoples tracks. Set a track to featured and then review some other peoples tracks and I assure you you will get feedback as what you do is unusual and interesting.
I have a handful of people who always, often or occasionally provide some detailed feedback and reflection on what I do and they get to know my stuff so can compare a current track with others, which is always useful. So, kind of charting your development.
Also, when you get used to their music and preferences, youll get more of a feel for where theyre coming from in their reviews of your stuff.
Good luck and Ill try to remember to comment on some of your other tracks.
Hi. I checked out your track after you posted it in the Unique Song thread (I won the last one and have entered again).
Its an interesting prog mix of a good few styles. I wish youd said more about how it was made. Is this a drum kit that youve recorded yourself? It sounds very good and I especially like the cymbal work and snare sound.
Bass has a great solid tone and is perhaps more important than the guitar in the metal sections. Your change around 1:14 takes things into completely different territory. Much more strange jazz-funk that is quite a juxtaposition with the metal sections. But I guess thats kind of the style and vibe odd shifts in sound that are creative explorations through different guitar and band-based music of the last 40 or so years.
I certainly make progressive music but Im not really a proper prog guy whereas I think you are. I do less of the slightly atonal jazzy stuff and much more of the melodic more electro and modern dance influenced stuff, but still with a lot of guitar work (a little like Ozric Tentacles in places). If youd like to check out the huge amount of music I have on the site, a good starting place might be this complex epic that covers more styles and sounds than I can easily name:
I might give a bit more detail later on your track, based on your response, but I certainly think its well played and made proper prog genre-merging stuff.
Yo. I appreciate the feedback. This was all recorded at my house in a weekend. Most of my songs are. I recorded rhythm guitar first to a click track. Then I'll record drums. Bass, leads, and keys (in that order) come next. And finally, of course, is all the minor tweaking. I'm sure you know all about that. I too have been dabbling in more EDM influenced stuff with jazz on it. It all ends up as prog rock though. I'll check yours out though and get back to ya'. Thanks for the listen, dude.
This is great! Really favor the guitar work you put in. I can imagine the dark ghostly theme about it, never sounded any better! Def gives an impression of a phantom on a mission stuck at this gate, where a choice will have to be made. Will have to check out return of the phantom, to get the whole story down. Very interesting and well brought out. Keep creating and thanks for sharing with us. Peace,Dave
Hi there I love this vibe kinda reminds me of Frank Zappa's Sleep Dirt Album which was one of my favourite's. Would love to play it for International Looperman Day on www.loopradio.net
Absolutely! I'm glad you like it. As you can see, I don't get too many plays. Anything I can do to get more exposure is worth doing. Just let me know. Check out "Infectonaut". It's my newest one. I think you'd like it. Once again, thanks.
Unique track in here...I like that change at 1.14...awesome guitar and key play...this is more than just technicality...the composition together is superb...
AMAZING stuff! You came to the right place, there are some brillant musicians here and they are going to love you for this. You should upload this track to Loopradio to get some exposure: http://www.loopradio.net/upload.htm
