Description : Short piece, Lo-Fi chillout, hey guys this is different from me, this was inspired by Jynxz after listening to his track city-ish life. this is my interpretation. i think the title explains it all. i tried to capture the atmosphere of a hot steamy early morning in any major city. ive added tonal fx to create the background ambience, there's an electric storm brewing, i stewed for a day whether to use ad-libs but thought vocals would take away from what i was trying to achieve, that feeling.

whoa, whoo, where am i? all i know is that im connected to the nervous system of a dark metropolis where some are sleeping, some 8 miles high. every one of us dreaming, driving in the night, taking different trains, a yellow submarine. to the dream of this music.

great description mate, very different from me, it just goes to show how music brings out things deep inside. 1 year ago i would never have thought i'd have a go at anything other than my stable ground, but the freedom here lets me explore, the creative flare shown by everyone here is amazing and gives me confidence to try and show some myself and you also give me inspiration too, your mixes are always full of wonderful sounds and textures i tend to get a vision with you and seem to feel what your music is saying like when i dance, its the music that leads me, i think i caught the feeling here thanks for driving the journey and feeling it

So what you did here has some creative elements that remind me of this Sheffield band that I have my eyes and ears on. It's not for the tame of heart, but they nail the visual the obscene sounds and the now pop feel all in one tune. let me know what you think.

Top notch Paul. I'd call it ambient as much as lo fi. It has a soundscape feel to it even tho it isn't really a soundscape at all, which I guess is what you were aiming for. Evocative, dreamy, moody and basically downright sublime! Too good, well done man.

    dimestop
    Reply by dimestop

cheers Chris, my thoughts were ambient too, but i used some samples that came in a lo-fi/chillout pack so just went along with it, i was really pleased with how it turned out and think i caught the feeling i was looking for

:51 that trumpet makes it. I like that crunchy white noise, sort of filtered city sound feel that comes in and out. Dreamy in a disassociated way. I like this one, Paul. It expresses chaos and calm in the same sounds, that's not easy to do..

Steven it is always massive for me to get a legends opinion, my tutor, my supporter and my friend. its guys like you that have given so much help to get me to this stage where, i think, yeh i CAN do that. this has been my longest planned track started when i heard jynxz ive gradually built it with my samples 25 tracks on this one, i EQ'd everything to get a good balance, the crunchy white noise you here is actually a vinyl scratch that i overlayed added reverb and EQ'd i used quite a few tonal fx in this after shuffling for a few days, this was the feeling i felt and settled for

This works great as a setting as you described, cool effects, the horn was stellar! I agree with your decision not to add vocal parts. There's just enough here to create a time and place and not too much where it gets in the way.

    Well done again Paul!

Wayne so happy to receive your feedback mate, it was a trumpet i used two ways but could have been a horn ive used that instrument a couple times but like you said it was stellar, gorgeous tone and the star for sure. i am happy you agree with me not using vocals, it would definitely have taken the setting and feeling i was trying to achieve away thanks for the listen and time mate

    Hey P,

From the first note, I closed my eyes and listened to this wonderful array of sounds, that got my attention, the sax especially capturing the very essence & the heat of a big city at 3am, man, I could almost see the visible heatwaves. You are seriously what I call "SOUND PAINTING" here with these awesome sounds. There is nothing like that feeling of hearing some music & becoming inspired by it so much so, that it leads you to create your own little gem & you sure did with this one, it's all you and you did good! WTG!

thanks Angel, i to closed my eyes to listen back when i finished this, i did feel like i was in the centre of my city early hours, ive been there loads at that time coming out of venues id been dancing in, going for a take away jumping in a taxi for the short trip home, it was a trumpet i used as the main solo but it could so easily have been a sax, im glad you said you felt it captured the essence, and your so right about being inspired by others and to see comments of praise from your inspirations is the icing on the cake

it is a huge honor to be mentioned in the description of this track.
I feel like I could see all the pictures you were drawing throughout this track. I'd give anything to see the look on your face once you finished this Masterpiece.
The creativity on this track is so engaging and thought provoking. I'd like to hear more of this. It turned out to be everything you said, and more.

Rob i believe i used the word Metropolis on my comment to your track, it really did inspire me. after listening i was like, i would like to try that, i was apprehensive. this is not your thing i told myself, your not good enough to play with trumpets strings pads guitars the comments suggested different. ive now given up my thing, if i ever thought i had a thing, i just want to make good music irrelevant of genre and continue to strike for better, im so pleased you thought it was a good effort and im enormously proud of your great comment

Paul, first off, congrats on this laid back chilled out masterpiece of a composition. You've crossed a threshold, as evidenced here, drawing inspiration from our dear brother and fellow Looperman JYNXZ! Your mixing and composing acumen has grown exponentially over the last few months. And know this as well...... your consistency in the community is admirable and respected. Thank you for sharing your talent.

thanks Mark, 500 places in a description is not enough considering you get 3000 for a reply. if i recall you provided the drums on Robs track so your credited with my inspiration also. i usually post get feedback and tweak this time i feel i got it first time, i was pleased how the tonal effects came through i think i captured the moment well, i was surprised with how this turned out the star of the show was the trumpet, so yours and Robs opinion is really important to me. i came back today to find you both commented and faved, thankyou for such a warm reply mate

Any way job was done. It is recorded fully live on real instruments, about 3 hours of composing and recording.
