Description : Another vocal from me, grabbed of YouTube freebie, wrote the song and sang it. Hopefully no issues this time, showing I've picked up all advice I've had from you guys lately..
Dare I say, I think this is my most ballsy effort, I sang it like I dance when I go out. I don't give a fuck attitude :))
I might not be a good singer but you gotta wanna bop to this. The best part is when it finishes and something else comes on :)))))

Yeah bro I'm hearing the improvement for sure. I'm definitely no expert as you know but I find mixing and processing vox really difficult. In general tho what I do is pretty similar to what Wayne described. So good one man looking forward to more.

Hi Chris it's a bit tongue in cheek had a great laugh doing it, I enjoy writing so will do a few more and keep practising, mixing vocals is difficult but I'll improve on that too, the help has been phenomenal from the community especially DOOM, The Humps Cru and BeatMaker, i feel I've learnt so much recently with the feedback, thanks for the listen again mate

This track has that oldschool flavor which I just love, made me think of womack's music. Your voice sounds cool on this and better too, no shade, I'm just honest. Just a quick question are you from stoke?... I know you say brum, I'm originally from Brum, know a world of people there too & in coventry, before living in London & people always said they could never tell because I didn't have an accent lol...But anyways, this is really good work here. Enjoyed this. Keep at it fella.

Thanks for the listen Angel, I appreciate your time, I'm really enjoying trying to sing :)) and feel I'm improving slightly im now getting everything in time when listening back so don't need to move things around just fx, I found out quite quickly how difficult it can be when not natural I'm originally from Middlesbrough but have lived in Birmingham since I was 20 ish, my ex wife was a Brummie we met when I worked the holiday camps she was a nurse on camp, so I'm in Erdington, 3 miles outside city,do a lot of dancing in digbeth area the cultural centre where all the street art is. I roll up with camera blaster smoke machine etc and dance in the street I'm thinking of doing some dance around the new athletics track during the commonwealth games ::))

I`m thinking you were enjoying doing this one dimestop...comes through. Its likely a good approach to get your feelings into the song (I`m not a singer so I`m guessing)..I am a fan of the RODE mics (bang for the buck, and made in Au) but been using a AT2035 lately (about $100) for acoustic guitar...best sound I could find for a budget mic....good job on this one...nice R&B kind of vibe...keep on...its all about the fun...Ed

Thanks Ed, I had a ball mate seriously. I wrote it in about 30 mins quickly got on the vibe, sang it a few times, laughing my head off thought I was Nile Rodgers, then recorded it one take and it was on time so just fx really fun though, got myself a new mic ordered 98 don't need nothing better I'll never be great that's for sure but I'm having great fun and that's exactly what this is about like you said

Hey mate it does sound a bit like that, thinking them fuckers next door are having a ball it was done with a tounge in cheek attitude,I remember the days getting ready, getting in the mood smoking weed few lines shots and beats, then out dancing till 4 in the morning, them were the days and yep some times got a good hiding for being a flashy fucker on the dance floor :)) I was young I didn't give a fuck then

Paul, all around a nice little track from you. It is always a feat filling in an instrumental that is three minutes or so long. Nice job. Certainly a ballsy effort. I loved the instrumental/beat. A nicer microphone and a preamplifier would do you justice. They do cost a bit of money though. My stuff sounds pretty clean usually but I still think I could use a mic upgrade. I'm looking at 500 bones. Its hard getting hype on a track, thats why im laid back on most of mine. The lyrics tell a story, I like that.

Johnnie thanks for the feedback I've ordered a new mic it's a TONOR condenser roughly 100 about $140, got a tripod and a muffler too all to go with my new laptop, I can get as much moody software I need, torrents etc, loads of free DAWs too, but I'm purchasing the latest FL editon next couple of weeks when I'm all settled with it I'll give a better performance I'm sure. This is ballsy bro, but you should have seen me dance as a kid, I was the guy outside the picture HSE at the mall, on the corner, popping an locking, backslide, sideglide (don't dare call it moonwalk, media shit) downrock backspins head freezes I was a ballsy fuk. Got some socials up but only me now not when I was in my pomp

Not giving a fuck is a good place to start.

When it comes to sounds in general, the capturing or engineering is far more important than post FX. Compression is good for vox, however you can avoid having to use it if you keep the mic the same distance from you mouth and you keep your volume constant (and put a sock over it to get rid of the popping "p"s).

Same applies to all other sounds. I use very little EQ and try to avoid FX if possible. If all the sounds sit in their own frequency range you don't have to do much other than levels.

Just some food for thought. I'm stealing this for my evil plans.

    Faved.

If you hit me on my private mate I'll send you the stems direct it's on my profile page, I don't share anybodies info got loads of the guys here. Thanks for your listen and fav and the amount of feedback you give, like Cru says paying it forward, you get rewards elsewhere in life for kindness. I'm pleased to say I've choosen my new laptop and a new mic. TONOR cardioid condenser. I've always put music up with tweaks to fx that sound ok to MY ear, tbf, I didn't really know what I was doing. Now I have played around more, I'm hungry for knowledge, I was like autoduck wtf, ah, that's what it does, change the curve :)) so took a similar approach with everything else, attack, release, steriorise, distortion etc I know listen to how it effects the sound and add or remove accordingly but learning with all the help
I've also decided to stick with FL studio as my DAW, it's all I've ever used, was considering alberton, but gonna stick with FL an purchase the latest edition for my new laptop, comes with life time updates and some new plugins. Sorry for the long windedness

Ok, OK, that's much much better intonation, mate! I find the older I get, those balls you mention keep descending. In a few years I'll have me own hackysack that returns ;-)

    dimestop
    Reply by dimestop

Thanks Steven yeh the intonation is better, I done this like you advised hit the beat and pronounce better, I was laughing my head off doing this and used my dancing attitude, thinking how dare you Paul the intro was for fun and yep mate used to have a tight packet, it's now more like some old kind of swing left abandoned like Chernobl the grass has grown everywhere and I mean everywhere :))

Easy groove to get into. And look at you, swooning the hotties!

All I do for processing on my vocals is eq, compression, a little saturation and reverb. Eq will depend on your particular voice, reverb will depend on the song and I use a saturator because I like to. :)

But compression is really the biggie and learning to use it properly is the key. I usually go with a quick attack cuz that's where the transient will eat up your mix. The release will vary but will usually be 750ms to just over a second depending on how loud I sang the track and. Loud punk songs vocals will be different than a love ballad. The right reverb is also so important because that will seat the vocals in the song rather than on top of it.

It will take some time to get it right but that's why we do this, to get better, right? Also a decent condenser mic and a pop filter are a good thing.

    Cheers!

:)) haha, you got me laughing Wayne, swooning the hotties, I wish mate. I never used reverb on this it's a delay I used, I have dropped the ratio on the compression by half and it sounds better balanced now, it was sitting on top of the music but getting a little better with fx etc all a great learning curve, I maybe 57 mate, but I have danced all my life competitions etc, holiday camps, I'll dance the life out of anyone I still perform today and enjoy myself no end but ask me to sing in front of two people I'd refuse to, I'd be to scared and to think I've put displays on in nightclubs with thousands watching but I would sing, even if I thought I could
