Description : Updated 2/14/2022 This composition is "Swunked" which is a swing-funk that's jazzy. I mixed this dirty because sometimes I like dirt! Swing beat with synth bass, Rhodes MK V, Rocking Sax, A smooth french horn with real butter on it, and a piccolo bass solo on top of the synth bass, cool piano throughout with a solo then the OUTRO. Drum programming, written arranged, mixed, mastered by M.T. Enjoy.

Another great track from you Mark. There are always lots of interesting twists in your music. On this one, the vibes runs at around 4:40 really reminded me of Gary Burton in terms of the notes and the tone. I know you have deliberately mixed this 'dirty' but on my headphones it sounded dirty in a distorted clipping sense. I also listened on my flat response 8' studio monitors and it sounded the same. Obviously, taste is subjective, but for me I think shaving of a couple of db or so on the master volume would probably achieve the 'dirt' without any unpleasant frequencies.

    Reply by kingmt77

Discipline, hello to you, and thanks for making this stop, Thank you also for your feedback. I've always loved Gary Burton's work and Lionell Hampton too. Now for the dirt and clipping, simply I'm on a learning curve. I'm working to sculpt a sound that matches the mix and you pointing that out is helpful. On this track when I rendered with a limiter on the master there was no clipping as the threshold of the limiter was set to prevent that. I'm going to reload this project and give some of the upper frequencies a "haircut" and cut some saturation and see if that will be the remedy.

The contrast between the highs and lows is absolutely DELICIOUS...

This track really has the best of all the ranges but being a hardcore Basshead I just love the fullness of the Bass in this
track. That Grand piano just kills the rhythm doin whatever it wants to and still staying dead in the middle of everything thats going on Oscar Peterson style. I hated to hear this track end, and I'm a straight up 3min max man 5 almost 6min is usually way out of my comfort zone.
    Great track... Faved...

PEACE from the East 75 degrees here today.:-)

    Reply by kingmt77

Rob, send some of that 75 degrees here. Thank you. Now on this I was going for a lofi ish sound so I put most of my time in on that aspect which might explain the contrast you hear. Instead of saturating the entire mix, I applied just a touch on the individual tracks at varying degrees using the returns, so the dirt was more prominent on certain instruments than others. So in other words, I just jumped in and twisted some knobs and yes dimmed the lights on the block with that CPU usage. None the less for your listen, feedback, and faveGratitude! Be safe and dont forget my B3 on Swamp Peace.

Hiya! another Jazzylicious! track by you, this track is sprinkled with love it's so, beautiful! to listen to, I can tell you put your all into your tracks. Those piano keys are dancing frantically sounds like something you'll hear at an expensive swanky jazz club, very pristine indeed & much enjoyed.

Angelus, thank you for your stop today. Im constantly pushing that process of continual improvement all the way around. When I receive favorable or corrective feedback, I take that into my next composition and work to be even better. Ive got a long way to go and your listen and positive feedback and that of our fellow Looperpeople is helping me a great deal to reach that goal. So with that as always your time, thoughts, and fave is never taken for granted. Be safe:)

You are so right but i cant help it...i love bass in music.
But trust me...the rest of your music is also great.
Seems so difficult to me but for you its like a natural thing.

    Reply by kingmt77

RitajustRita, I've searched everywhere and this is what I found, there's absolutely totally and positively no law that states that we cannot LOVE THAT BASS! PERIOD! Thanks for giving your much-respected opinion on what I'm doing. What seems difficult really isn't. For example, when I start something new I totally disregard what I've heard before then I think about what do I need to hear right now. In that way, we have a greater chance of not being repetitive with our songs. While staying true to your genre and constantly injecting fresh new ideas and creativity. Be safe. Peace.

Ableton crew ! Early morning where I am, not a bad vibe to start the weekend with

Impressive chord progressions and interesting breaks. I like the section where the low end cuts out and that smooth sax pushes through. Brings the transition in nicely.

The dirtiness on here gives it a punch, works well. Good production and arrangement. I get the impression you are well experienced in music. Good work !

I like a dirty mix too, end up putting saturation and compression on everything it seems like. Don't think I heard this one. I like the laid back horns. The tracks have a kind of wavyness that I can't place.

Your content is a rare level of class :)

Swunky, As great as the bass is, that Rhodes is killer. Nice side-chaining of it as well. Might that be Fab filters VST I hear? also a nice snappy snare. The piano has an interesting sound as well as you showcase the mids EQ wise on the Piano, but very tastefully. 2:48 in your face transition. I may have just pissed myself from that segment intro. Serious Piano soloing. Xylos bring it home in that 3rd segment. Awesome phrases in this outro part. Well done, i enjoyed that listen!

    Reply by kingmt77

crucethus, welcome back. Thank you for your listen and comments. You enjoying this means a lot. Just so happens I didn't use FabFilter on this one. In the mastering effects chain I used in this order, 1) oeksound soothe2 with the "soften digital tops" preset. 2) Softube Drawmer 1973 Three Band Stereo FET Compressor set to wide mix. And my Limiting go-to HOFA IQ Limiter set at 00 for that lovely brick. A lot of effort went into the mix effects and EQing, balancing, and proximity of the instruments. Be safe.

what is that instrument you used at 2 minutes 48 seconds, I really like that sound! Its like a synth, is it midi or is it analog.

    Reply by kingmt77

Mishoaranki12, That synth sound is an analog VST. Arturia MINI V. The preset is called "Bend Me". That's a mix of saw and pulse waves, percussive attack with a touch of delay. The mod wheel adds vibrato. I hope this helps. Peace

Cool! The synth bass has a nice tone, kinda like a real bass git with active electronics in it. I can hear the gritty dirt and taste it, he! That piano part about 3:45ish was killer! I like how it did it's own thing, took off and took over.

Description : This song highlights a few different styles of jazz. First it starts with a kinda early 20s and 30s groove. Than it melds into a New Orleans style. Than into a sort of Maynard Ferguson big band jazz/rock groove, and finishing off with the 20s and 30s style again, all held together with some cool horns and bass. All n all, it's...Pretty Cool! Description : Do not freak out just because this is jazz! There's also blues, rock, funk and a little hip hop in it to break up the deep, chillout jazz sections - gets particularly rocking then funky at the end. Main bassline (the track's foundation) is recycled leftover slide resonator guitar parts detuned one octave to make a slide bass sound. Also features: piano, violin, hammered dulcimer, organ, ethereal pad guitar, bass guitar, jazz/blues/rock electric guitar and multiple programmed acoustic drumkits. This was difficult to make at times as I thought I needed more leads parts eg from sax or trumpet. But I'm happyish with the end result. I expect very little interest in this as it's both jazz and long jazz. But it's also an unusual type of genre-mixing jazz. So, leave your thoughts, good or bad, if you like...

Description : Music by Antonio Carlos Jobim. This particular piano arrangement is from one of jazz sheet piano books I found on scribd. The electric piano is MrRay22 plugin which I played on Casio CDP220 digital piano. This is also a new piece that I learned today so it was quite tricky to get a proper touch at places and overall make the entire thing sound anywhere realistic. I tried many times and this was probably the best take. Also I am relatively new to playing latin piano music. I didn't manipulate any notes after recording - instead I added few virtual vintage amps. I choose jazz but it is a bossa nova latin style. Enjoy and feel free to comment and download.

Description : "Oh no - not jazz metal! You're not supposed to mix those genres together." Yes, but someone's got to and the musical gods have chosen me for the difficult task. 9 mins of instrumental jazz metal - damn I sure know how to write a hit song - US No 1 here I come. Anyway - there's some dark, swinging groovy jazz, with Rhodes and guitar as the main instruments, for a few minutes and then some haunting, thumping evil breaks loose. Look out for the powerful synth horn sound. And then it just gets heavier and heavier before returning to some nice chillgroove funky mystery jazz. Instruments played and/or programmed: electric guitar, bass guitar, electric cello, multiple programmed acoustic drumkits, filtered strings, Rhodes, big synth bass, evil synth horn and a few other assorted synths. I assume this has too much jazz for metallers and too much metal for jazzers. So, only for weirdoes like me who enjoy both. This will surely be too odd for most people but I like to think it's pretty interesting and powerful. Let me know how its weirdness worked for you...
