Slightly psychedelic soul. Groovy man. I don't know enough about mixing to be pointing out little tiny flaws, so great job.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Thanks for leaving a comment. Awesome to see you still active on the site.

Honestly, that's a really tough question. Though I very much agree with Format with regards to artistic intent, technicals, and business. Especially when it comes to releasing music to the public conventionally.

This song is meant to be released conventionally. So, I want it to sound good. Working on this track has helped me come to terms with my limitations and gaps in knowledge, and I think that''s essential if I want to improve. And I do want to improve. And hopefully through this others can improve as well.

With that being said, here's the re-mixed version of the song:

I also left a forum post detailing my process.

    Thanks for listening!

Just listened from A to Z your track
I think it sound pretty well
If i can add something well it could be on the male voice. May be mix it less "in your face" but it could be just my "taste". And the second thing coulb be and the stereo of the track, try to open it more especially on the back vocal who seems to be very in the middle and it could be more separate L/R with a special reverb or something.
Hope your understand what i'm trying to say i'm french so it's a bit difficult to explain this in english.
Anyway it's a cool track and it can works well tis way.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Thanks for leaving a comment.
I had uploaded a re-mixed version of this track, so if you have the time, do let me know if the issues were resolved.

I think that "in your faceness" you described on the male vocal could have been from bad EQ. I had to cut out frequencies around ~300 Hz. Without doing this, it always felt like the vocal was sitting on top of everything else.

With regards to the stereo of the track, this comment led me to learning about Mid/Side EQ which helped clean up a lot of generated muddiness from a lot of sounds.

    Thanks again!

Very jazzy and soulful, I dug it too much to have any criticisms for it. Well done!

Honestly the mic quality doesn't seem to be the problem to me. Seems like too much low end on the vocals. Also did you use a treated room? I'm hearing some reflection in the recording which isn't too big a problem with surgical mixing. Honestly it seems like you took a minimalist approach with the vocals or lack of experience with mixing, one or the other. Honestly bro you should invest in yourself and learn how to properly mix or hire an engineer to be brutally honest (you said don't hold back). When you are presenting your art to the world you want as little impediments to proper translation as possible. To the untrained ear, or a loyal fan might disregard these flaws, but a radio station would laugh at you and it should be illegal if you where to try to sell this. Now with all that being said, I like the "song" the artistic intent behind the music is clear and good. Three categories to modern music; artistic (conceptual, inspirational) technical (scientific, manipulative) and business (promotional, contractual). Artistically you are good, I can't speak to business, but you are lacking technically. I hope that helped, peace 4M@

Appreciate the really critical feedback, and thanks for not holding back. Very helpful in helping me grow.

Like you mentioned, the mic wasn't the issue but inexperience on my end with mixing and processing, especially when it comes to vocals.

The reflection you were hearing was caused by a Ping Pong delay, which I had initially used to add more atmosphere. But it damaged the overall clarity of the vocals.

I've been working on re-mixing the track from the ground up as the instrumental also needed a lot of work mixing wise.

Since the track is essentially 'done' I can take off the creative hat, committing to what I have and put on the technical trying to make that sound as good as possible, since it's something I've found I usually neglect.
3 very important tenets you mentioned there, and this is great learning experience.

    Thanks again!

could be cleaner on the vocals, id just say use a better mic but other than that sounds pretty good!

Thanks for pointing out the vocals. Though like 4M@ said, the mic wasn't really the issue, but shoddy mixing on my end.

The seeds to you keep
Those ones you will never reap
Get out and make hay
Keep the pride and guilt away
That’s the only
That’s the only way to grow

Ah reh reh reh ra ra reh!
Oh reh ra ra reh!
Oh reh ra ra reh!

Les mains dans la terre est le seul choix pout gagner
Tu ne peux pas gagner les grains que tu gardes où tu caches
