Well! I will let you in on a little secret. I have been on this site for over 9 years now Terry. In my first two years I was once called the "King of Funk" on this site. But I never embraced that title because in the end Kings get toppled and sometimes killed, lol!

But to be honest, there were lots of great Funk artists back then, that is why what you are doing is music to my Funkin' ears. I believe Trap, Hip-Hop, and Dubstep swept a lot of great talent off of this site, I think!

Here is one of the songs that made me a defacto King:

Terry! My bro! Good luck on your funk Terry. I would love to hear what you Funkin' got!

My darling AJ! How are you? Missing the old days I see. Just a few of us are still left. Me, I am pretty much on life support, musically speaking. Ah, but things where a blast way back. I am not going to get into to what we got now, ha ha ha!

But, this site is still amazing because it survived where others have died. And hey! Mr. Funktastic is still here, like dusty old luggage, just funking around. I am so delighted to see you are still around and have stopped by. Stay safe! And stay amazing!

    Good morning legendary master joe,
    What a track mate.
I can't fave it again unfortunately mate.
But here is to you (I'M Drinking a nice cup of tea though) mate.
What ones can say to the man who is on the top of this industry??

    Reply by JoeFunktastic

Here is a true story. Back around 2011, I assemble some of the finest funk musicians here on looperman and we created a first-ever funk mixtape. I appointed myself as the lead musician and lead mixologist. I had live guitarists, funk loopers, and funk DJs all in on it. I literally had a funk-cult following back then, no wonder you call me legendary, I might agree with that description a tiny bit. I worked with some of the best funkers on this site back then and they all trusted me. Maj, I may have fallen a lot from that former glory mate! Cheers mate and thanks!

Nice work organ reminds me of the playing of Richard 'Groove' Holmes the rest fits in perfectly to artists like Bernie Purdie, Albert King, Phil Upchurch, Truman Thomas, Poncho Sanchez - love it also love the decent cold sweat feel.

Marco! I see myself parallel in spirit to your music although we are in different genres. We both do the music that represents who we truly are. So many fall into the Trap trap here. Genuine expression of one's true self should be the only way to go, because it is the purest form of a persons creative passion at its very best. If a person cannot be true to themselves, then what they do and who they are is no good to anyone else. That is how I feel about that. Thanks Marco for stopping by my brother!

You are the man... this sounds so real.
The drums part is really true to the genre... the bass is soooo cool, groovy for days.

So, every time I stop by your neck of the woods, I discover a gem, and I also receive a master's class in writing and production work. This is so good, on so many different levels it is difficult to find a place to start, haha. First, there is a reason you are the king of funk. Man this brings back the good old days. That keyboard work is stellar. Bass and drums just drive this one down the highway. This is funk at it's finest Joe. It doesn't get much better than this. Production is so crystal clear, with just the right amount of punch. Well done my friend. Added to favorites. Thanks for sharing it with all of us Joe. I hope all is well.

    Reply by JoeFunktastic

Hey Bear, greeting my good friend. Thanks for the remarks on the drums. I am using a Funk Drum kit based on Clyde Stubblefield's funky drummer style. I could not find a drum loop that met my funky standards so I made one myself. The bass amp, pre-amp and rig is by provided by IK Multimedia's Amplitube. But Bear, my real secret weapon is HP and LP filters. Yes, I use compression, and not on everything. Low Pass and High Pass is that one overall important thing that gave me clearer sounding songs. EQ and Compression without HP and LP filters kept my songs dirty sounding. Isolate your bass from the high frequencies, and smooth out those harsh artifacts from that hard velocity snare or those high pitched horns and wala! I try to keep the overlap to minimum as possible. King, well we never had a King of funk, just a godfather, but some have been known to call me The Prime Minister of Funk. That's a better title I can live with me because Kings have been known to be toppled and overthrown, ha ha ha! All the same, thanks brother! God Bless you Bear, thanks for stopping by, it is always a high honor when you do.

    Hello Joe,

    Reply by JoeFunktastic

Bonjour mon ami, comment vas-tu?

I've been watching some Bootsy Collins interviews and what he learned from James Brown. This has that JB feel to it as far as I am concerned.

Classic drums, has that funk groove that won't quit. I hope you can put some vox on it, would raise it to an even higher place.

    Cool one Joe!

    Reply by JoeFunktastic

YES! Real Funk talk!!! Hey Wayne! Man I saw that video interview a while back. Bootsy was so excited when he was sharing this, then new concept, with George Clinton. Bootsy learned that you got to bring it all on the "ONE!"

That has been my early childhood experience growing up on the dark side of Dorchester and listening to Funk music, like the the JB's in the 60s and 70s, lol! But today, I think I have had my fill of electronic songs and now I am back doing just Funk and Blues. I thought about putting my vocals on this one. I am not too shabby on the mic, ha ha ha! But I said wait, that my kill this in a bad way. Thanks for stopping by, always a high honor when you do. Peace from Beantown!

So it’s funky as others said. A lot of great elements here. I guess personally I just wish there were more distinguished sections and variations in voicings of the instrumentation. The blues/funk progression that the bass and sax does just gets repetitive to me. Great groove though.

    Reply by JoeFunktastic

Hey thanks bro! By today's standard things get mixed and chopped. Back in the 60's and 70's on James Brown's records this was not the case. I tried to stay true to his formula. But today's standards things come fast and furious. Back then the bands played so that one could appreciate the contributions more. All the same, I appreciate your comments and input.
