    Superbe morceau!

Reply by JosephFunk Bonjour Bleep!

    Merci beaucoup!

for me this music ... 5 people go down to the basement, plug the instruments into the amplifier and start playing ... not like now ... download a good guitar or synth, get a primitive bass, drum and finish the music base ...

    cool track Joe...and that lady...fantastic...

    Reply by JosephFunk Hey Danke!

When it comes to great sounding music and awesome production skills, you are the man sir! So I am extremely happy to hear from you on this one. I am trying to get back to the music I truly love Danke. I am grateful to Carrol and all of her efforts to make this all possible. When you get a great singer it motivates you to do your very best. Nearly a month went into this song my brother. But it all paid off. I had to exercise great patience and breaks in between which is just as equally important as the talent I discovered. I use to make music while being tired because I felt I needed to get it done quick so I could put it out to the people hear quickly. I would then unfortunately make lots of mistakes and take shortcuts because I was tired. I do not do that anymore Danke, patience is something I strongly believe in now. Danke, thanks for the comments and the review, you are a good friend but most of all a very talented musician. Thank you!

That's funny man! I love how you opened up your comment brother! LOL, that was so funny man. Thanks so much! I find inspiration can bring things out that you never knew you could do. The mastering alone took a week bro! It sometimes gets dangerous when you over do things, I could ran the risk of really screwing things up. Man I kept saving multiple copies just incase my boat capsized, so to speak. Smooth sailing most of the way. The vocals gave me a bit of challenge because it was sent as a compressed MP3 and it also had a whistling noise on it, but I did cleaned most of that up. Although this one took nearly month, the key process to all of this was resting my ears and then coming back in fresh. Amazingly, I'd come back and hear things that I did not hear or noticed prior. I would then make the corrections. My takeaways from this, patience bro. It was almost like having another engineer/producer with me. Hey I appreciate the comments T2.

Reply by JosephFunk Hey Ed bro!, You are killing softly man! I can always count on you for an overabundance of generously inflated compliments and accolades, lol. You saw B.B. live? Wow! That had to be an experience of a lifetime. R.I.P. B.B.

But I think you are I both agree when I say once you get an awesome vocalist/artist, it raises your game, and then you must rise to occasion and bring your A-Game as well. I have seen and heard you do just that in the past and present. I am trying to get back back to really what I am rooted in Ed, and that is Funk and Blues. I had fun doing this because I was able to work with a really professional vocalist, peeps here just don't know how talented she is. I was happy she trusted me enough to do this and keep it free for all. Hey Ed, man, I appreciate your support man. You have always been there for me man, and don't think I have not noticed bro! But in all seriousness, lol, thanks bro for the review and comments. I hope all is well with you man.

Hey Joe, been forever since I've been on the Loop. Peeked in just now and saw this on the forum and thought I would check it out, and man I am glad I did. One of my favorite BB King tunes, and you and Carrol did this one proud. Great musicianship, terrific vocals, and a really pro engineering job on top of it all. Definitely worth a listen and a favorite. Only thing I would change is the ending (a bit abrupt for my tastes...maybe a big old bluesy brass section ending). Anyway, that's just me nitpicking. It really is a 10 out 10. A tip of the hat to Carrol for the splendid vocal work and to you for a marvelous production. Well done. I hope all is well.

    JosephFunk
Reply by JosephFunk Bear for crying out softly, you are a great sight for sore ears and eyes on this site my good ol' pal! How have you been man there man? Well me, Funk and Blues is pretty much my story brother. I call you brother because I think we are pretty much from the same musical era, especially when it comes to the Blues. And that leads me to the abrupt ending Bear. Remember back in our days Bear when songs were about 3 minutes or less, lol. Today Bear we got all of these extended mega mixes that you need a whole hour to listen to just one song. Well maybe I am exaggerating a bit, but it certainly feels that way. But you know something brother, nearly 1 month of work I put into this song and it gets compressed down to 3minutes and 54seconds, lol. But I get the vibe man you are expressing to me and thank you kindly. Doing all parts of a song including mastering gets crazy, and you know about that firsthand. But it feels awesome once it is done, and you know about that too based on the high quality music you have done with Patricia Edwards and some top name acts here and beyond, so have nothing but admiration and respect for musical skills and abilities. I appreciate your input here. Hey Bear! It's always a great pleasure to hear from you man. Don't be a stranger brother! I truly hope all is well you man. Thanks for the review and I hope to hear something new form you too very soon. Take care.

    Joe

Description : My friend, fellow musician, and all around great guy Mark Ratcliffe approached me about doing a blues tune and I jumped at the chance to work with Mark again. He's got a great voice for the blues....I once described it as a mixture of gin, cigarette smoke, and ministry. He sings the blues like he's been there and that is the way it should be done.

This tune sounds like a live recording....like we were there with Muddy Waters and the boys and I love the feel of this one. Mark Ratcliffe - vocals, lyrics, lead guitar, drums, bass, harmonica. Barry Morgan - rhythm guitars, organ, horns. No animals or cops were harmed in the production of this. A huge thanks to Mark for providing the talent (he also mixed and mastered it). I hope you all enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it.

Description : My thoughts for a Halloween track this year was to work up some foreboding Drone music with a little Delta Blues slide guitar mixed in. My inspiration being the classic story of Robert Johnson and his infamous deal with the Devil.

In Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1930, Robert Johnson supposedly made a deal with the devil at the crossroads where US highway 49 crosses US highway 61. Johnson had been playing down in Yazoo City and was on his way back up to Helena. He had hitched a ride that dropped him off next to the levee. It was a cool October night and a full moon glowed in the dark sky. He continued walking up the highway, guitar in his hand. As he approached the crossroads he was thinking about his friend Son House preaching to him about giving up his guitar playing. He really wasn't a good player and most people would joke and mock him when he was on stage. He hated it and was thinking he would give anything to be as good, no, better than his friend Son House. It was at that moment he noticed a figure in black standing there at the crossroads. As he approached him, a deep voice issued "Let me see that guitar boy"! He then took his guitar from him, tuned it and upon returning it asked if he would trade his soul to become a famous Bluesman. He agreed and the rest is history. Johnson's ability was seemingly transformed overnight to the amazement of everyone who knew him and he went on to become a Mississippi Blues legend. However, his fame was short lived. A mere eight years later the Devil returned to make good on the deal.

So this Halloween, be careful what you wish for, especially at the crossroads.

Description : Cosmic Eastern chillout atmospheric shuffle blues with loads of bluesy/Eastern electric guitar playing and warm sub bass (the same synth patch I've used in about 20 tracks). No drum loops and just two programmed acoustic kits - probably the simplest drum setup I've ever used. One day I hope to make a track containing only one drum kit. Also: a few female vocal samples (including a heavily timestretched one), one section of bass guitar, a few sample-based string instruments, a few notes of organ and two synth pad instruments. So, quite a minimal instrument lineup for me. It goes uptempo around 4:31 into a grooving, stomping bit of shuffle blues and I wonder if I should have brought this section back at the end for a triumphant finale. But I'm trying hard these days not to make things too long and this is already a decent length. Also contains some darker, Eastern sections but nothing too dark. Have a listen and leave me some interesting feedback - the more detail, the better.

Description : This is an all time favourite song of mine and I wanted to do something different with it, the rhythm and staccato synthesizers juxtapose beautifully with the flow of the melody and soulful and melancholy sentiment of this piece. Lyrics written originally by Ted Koehler in 1933, It has been given a contemporary flight by the poet, composer and producer Kenny Darkreine (https://www.looperman.com/users/profile/944056)who I give thanks to for his hard work, support and infinite patience with me :)
