I like your take on this song. House of the Rising Sun is a very influential song for me, and I'm sure for many on this site. I'm curious, what instrument would you call this lead? I can't place it
Reply by JosephFunk Thanks Rygel. Well, you know the Harp(harmonica) comes in many types like a horn or drum does. The real small ones have 10 holes and the larger ones have 16 holes for a richer sound like the ones Stevie Wonder uses. The one heard in the lead here is 10 hole one which has a higher pitch and not that full sound like Stevie. Thanks again!

wow this is EPIC!!!! great cover indeed, love the drums too
Reply by JosephFunk Thanks, the drums alone took 3 days to master by themselves with separation of frequency band work and compression. Thanks a lot. Peace!

I did not expect this! Those strings are absolutely briliant. The ambiance is amazing. It trully is an amazing songand this is a great cover.

Those strings are really something but what I really is the variety of sounds that come into play.

Really well put together! Thank you for sharing!
Reply by JosephFunk Hey! It is my favorite Looperman man, ha ha ha! Man, I wondered where you have been, seriously! The fact is I owe you a lot for your advice bro! Hey I know that sounds weird but one day I will explain it all.

If you played in a band around our part of the planet back in the day you just had to do this one Joe....if not people would be asking for it...did this one more times than I can remember and yet it still speaks to the musical mind as it always did (I did watch Eric & the guys do this one live too)...Great job on this one Joe...good to hear a different instrumental rendition and be reminded of some good times.....Ed

    Great Cover Joe.
I love this song as well. My Pop used to play the animals version quite a bit growing up. But I loved the Santa Esmeralda version.
Also David Johansen (AKA Buster Poindexter) former lead singer of the New York Dolls, getting together with the California surf guitar group the ventures.
Thanks for bringing back some cool memories thsi evening.
I am working on a feature where I am creating songs from some of the best of looper-mans loopmakers. Tumbleweed was first and you are next on the list. I have the tune already in the can and it's awesome. I will release it on looperman mid- November.

Reply by JosephFunk Thanks Ludwigbroo! Well you see I got an excellent collection of instruments. Kontakt 5 gives me those closest thing to an authentic sound as possible. Thanks so much for the review.

    Cheers from Joe!

That's a different take on it Joe. I expected it to be a bit more funked up, but yeah this is really cool too. I hate to admit that this is probably one of my least favorite classics, mainly due to some bad memories associated with it. But I can certainly acknowledge the work you put into it. Doing a good cover is not so easy to pull off, especially when making it distinctly different from the original. As always, you nailed a pretty sweet version. A very creative and well produced track.
    Reply by JosephFunk Hey Neo,

Nice to hear from you man! You know I thought about funking thinks up and then I said no way. This one was hard and if I blow it then things might not go to well for me. So I went with a direction on how I felt at the time rather than trying to force the funk which is never a good idea. This one has been performed by so many artists in different genres that many of those versions sound quite different. But I would never do a cover if I unsure of myself. All the same, thanks my musical brother for the heartfelt comments. I got tons of respect for you do as well. Thanks!

    Cheers from Joe!

Hey Joe...really great cover man! grew up with this song and like many other aspiring kids it was the first song I learnt to play (badly) on guitar...The strings are great and along with the piano faithfully impart the journey this song represents, it's contemporary with it's own (I mean your) style and yet it takes me back on a time trip to my youth, there's memories in these notes to anyone from my generation and you transitioned from past to future like stepping off the curb, cool production and great drums also, especially the ending, salute to you! cheers Dave
Reply by JosephFunk G'day mate! Really nice to hear from you Dave! Hey Dave, I want to share something with you. When I first arrived here I was a hip-hop artist and it was one of the worst decisions I ever made in music. Hip-Hop and now Trap music seems to be the default genre most new young people fall into. For me, as I said I fell into hip-hop too at that time, but about year into my account back then I met AllenV and I learned from him the value of being yourself musically through direct contact with him. He never sold out and was true to himself. I liked what I saw and heard from him. You talk about teaching this old dog (me), a new trick!

I deleted all of my hip-hop songs back then and said I am Funky, musically of course. That's who I am and I have stayed the course ever since. But more recently I started having flashbacks on some of the other songs my parents played around me musically when I was a kid. I soon discovered that songs like this one here are as much as a part of my life as funk is. Quite honestly this one made me feel good about myself. Doing todays popular music now appeals far less to me now. Isnt music supposed to make you feel good? Why give a damn about SC followers, make whats in your heart, I am sure there people who feel the same. So even if only one person enjoys my songs, I would say to myself, GREAT! Because now I am being true to myself. You would never see me posting in that SoundCloud rat race chasing follers instead of focusing on what really matters, and that is making great music.

Okay, enough about me rambling on about whatever. It's people like you Dave that make this site great by your devotion, contribution, support, excellent humour, talent, and awesome music. You are great human citizen and musician that shares with us, keep up the great work there mate! Thanks for stopping by.

    Cheers from Joe!

Hi Joe, really nice strings here, did you play any of the instruments? Sounds really good anyway, better than the run of the mill covers we usually hear anyway! Nice work my friend.
Reply by JosephFunk Cheers there mate! Always pleasure to hear from good people I truly respect. This one fun SP. I truly appreciate comments coming from talented people such as yourself. Well SP, all the instruments are mine. I used tabs on most of it and poured a ton of mastering into it my friend. Sometimes I dream about those days and I think I would of been happier as an adult in my prime in those days. The music was way better back them to me. But I must say there is lots of new talent today trying to heard as well. You got some excellent and talented people with you, congrats again mate!

On my song I used a lot of Kontakt based instruments, and tweaked them to perfection which is really cool to do. I am freeing myself from presets my friend and using my ear more. Always good to here from friends on the other side of the pond!

    Cheers from Joe!

Reply by JosephFunk Thanks brother man! I appreciate that. You are into all sorts of music. That is a sign of a great musical person. Creativity starts when one opens their mind to other possibilities beyond their own comfort zone. Thanks for the comments and review. Cheers from Joe!

Description : I'm very glad to upload yet another collab work with maestro Tumbleweed! This one is quite special cause it embraces Ed's wonderful idea of bringing together some unusual instruments from various parts of the world to find out how well they can work together and also to what degree of harmony they can mix with more standard instruments like sax or piano for example....and so here are presented the Chinese Ghuzeng, Harmonium, Zither, Frame drum, Jingle stick and Wooden whistle among others...so you see the title "No Borders" is truly appropriate. I hope you will find it interesting!:) As always all my thanks go to my dear friend Ed, without whom this exciting journey would never happen !

Description : Real guitars and basses played by me. A short, yet tasty bit of MIDI piano and cello with about 7 programmed drum kits and a few drum loops. It's really a metric shit-ton of layered guitars and different textures. This track, sadly, is also a "Goodbye" to my little Acoustic 3/4 Fender Squier. I've been serving as a pawn-shop for my sister-in-law for about 4 years. Not a guitar you'd seek out, but it's been a friend and has been in most of my tracks. The bright side is, I will be replacing it with something better, and full sized. Acoustic guitar suggestions are as welcome as track comments!

Description : UPDATE: Improved version (9th July 2014) of a track that used to really piss me off after getting some good feedback from Doudei and Planetjazzbass that reminded me this is actually pretty good stuff. It's rolling bass guitar chillout funk jazz with banjo, slap resonator guitar, soaring filtered violins, jazz piano, acoustic drum kits and other synth elements. Some Eastern vibes from the guitars and a lot of changes, with bass guitar as pretty much the lead instrument. Sounds kind of live but it's just me doing my usual thing of playing various instruments and then editing the shit out of all the parts. More feedback welcome, especially if you listened to the version I uploaded last year. Hope you can hear an improvement (if you can even remember it). Shortish and kind of fun so not one of my mega epics that requires ten pots of coffee and no toilet breaks to get through.

Description : A fat groove journey incorporating hip hop, jazz, rock and more. Chilled out and rocking, with some big riffs and basslines. The main instruments are saxophone, piano and cello plus some resonator guitar and banjo. Sax is the only instrument not played by me as the parts here were contributed a few years ago by a guy I know. Anything that sounds like distorted guitar is actually distorted cello. Loads of that, including solos, in the second half. No electric guitar or bass guitar. Not much synth work but there are two synth basses and an organ. Otherwise, it's quite an acoustic "played instruments" kind of sound. Lots of drums, including loops, multiple programmed acoustic kits and drum hits. I know Radiohead have an excellent song called Everything In Its Right Place but I still like my title and there's a story behind it (nothing to do with music). Interesting feedback appreciated. Do you have any favourite or least favourite sections? Details are appreciated...
