Description : Here's something from an idea I have been playing around with for quite sometime. I have always loved traditional Chinese music which stems from my interest in martial arts and watching classic martial arts movies. My wife is also Asian so I'm subjected to derivatives of this type of music a lot. Anyhow, I recently went through some issues that had a dramatic effect on my music making capabilities so I took some time away from it and ended up doing some different things and came up with this. Now I figured a traditional Chinese folk song would probably go over like a lead balloon here so I decided to do a little experimenting. It's just a fun, short piece that I hope some of you might like. I want to give credit to Looperman axzoul for his loop that I manipulated for the drum beat. https://www.looperman.com/loops/detail/101200/very-cool-trap-drums-3-by-axzoul-free-110bpm-trap-drum-loop After much trepidation (and a lot more work) here is my extended version of the original track. As mentioned this extended piece goes deeper into traditional music with a vocal recording of my wife and a friend singing karaoke that I re-mixed and added a base line, drums, wind chimes, flute and banjo using samples for bass and drums, Indiginus and Sakura vst's for chimes, flute and banjo. Hope you guys are ready for this one !

Hell yeah! Appreciating all sorts of music and then incorporating those interests into your own musical creations is one way musicians grow. Look at George Harrison learned about India"s culture then to play the sitar and incorporating it into the Beatles music. Cool idea, lead balloons are sometimes the ones that people like the most. I like the lesser known deeper cuts in most albums I own. So to me, anything different around here is welcomed.

Short pieces of music can be moving to the listener and fun and challenging to the artist. Some cool ripping guitars in there helping to set the mood.

    Neat track!

Reply by Neomorpheus Humps, I really appreciate your review bro and certainly agree with all points made. The Beatles are a primo example of musical innovation and experimentation. One of the things that really grabbed me when I first visited Looperman was the guys breaking new ground or doing the unorthodox stuff. Most of those members are no longer active but I have tried to follow suit with some of my tracks and of course there are quite a few here whose music and talents are representative of this and whose music is undoubtedly in a league of its own. One such Loopermaniac who exemplifies this super uniqueness for me is the guy right below. Mr. Nomad.

    It's a regreet!

Good to hear the details of how you got that cool guitar sound. You really should use it in some other tracks. And, of course, extend this one by at least a couple of minutes.

"Eventide Pitch Factor stop box and an expression pedal for the sharp note bends. The guitar tracks received further tweeks and modifications in the DAW with regard to speed and pitch."

Yeah, that sounds about right. I thought there had to be something particular going on with the pitch to get these rather unguitarlike sounds. More like zither at certain points. Yet still some guitar character is retained.

0:45 yes now I hear the slide. Definitely not just a finger doing that.

"Honestly it's always difficult for me to return to a track after I have wrapped it up and moved on"

You should change that. I don't see how you can be happy with this being so brief. Maybe if you'd made a good few tracks using these sounds but I don't think you have. This is really just a little taster of what you can do with these sounds.

    Keep going!

Reply by Neomorpheus I hear you bro, you and the others have convinced me to put a little more work in on this one. Since everyone so far seems to like this, I may use this opportunity to cover a song for my wife and present an even more in depth example of this genre with a bit of modern spin. It may even have vocals, So stay tuned.

Oh and I need to make a correction on a typo in my original reply to you. The Eventide Pitch Factor is a "stomp" box.

Thanks for the continual support man.

Very nice concept, really enjoyed it, and genuinely wish it was a bit longer. Would quite happily listen to a lot more, and curious to see what else you will come up with in the future.

    Thanks for sharing :)

Reply by Neomorpheus I really appreciate your comment and since I'm getting so much interest here I have decided to work on this further. I feel that maybe everyone would really enjoy taking this a bit deeper into the traditional music realm so I have an idea to work up a song that my wife sings with some Karaoki accompaniment. At this point its just an idea.

    hello Neo

long time, no see, no hear...

what a great surprise from you but if we think deeply it's not a big surprise...your jammy tune is there and your unique attitude too...that solistic instrument that lead through the song is outstanding...for me is far far away from hip hop fortunatelly :-)

great trailer or music from Ozone Network...stg like that...fantastic...

    handshake, Danke

    Yo, NeoMorphin' Shaolin Street Bro.

Well this sure is something different and cool. The only problem is that it's too damn short.

What the hell is that lead instrument at 0:07? Surely not guitar, is it? Could well be. If so, how are you getting that cool tone? Very nice playing and then the beat introduction is cool.

0:35 run is very nice and tasteful. 0:45 lovely subtle bend and sustained note.

1:03 (there's an audio pop there to be removed) has a cool new instrument. What is it? Nice, fluttering sounds. Perhaps guitar with very slow attack on it?

Great stuff. Extend this or I'll be annoyed!

    Reply by Neomorpheus Yo Statrad-chimusmad,

I'm really surprised that everyone seems to like this. I was expecting more critical response from the Hip Hop point of view. But I'm not complaining. Yes, lead instrument throughout is all guitar. Everything played on the strat with healthy amounts of effects processing (reverb, phase, chorus and delay). The zither and flute sounds were made using an Eventide Pitch Factor stop box and an expression pedal for the sharp note bends. The guitar tracks received further tweeks and modifications in the DAW with regard to speed and pitch. Used a lot of high eq to accentuate the twang and pluck nature of the notes in the earlier leads. There's also a background ambient drone used at the beginning and most prominently there in the ending 10 - 12 seconds of the track. The rhythm beneath the lead in the middle section are swelled notes with octave effects. Also have two subtle ascending and descending slide guitar tracks (:45 and 1:00) made with the ol ceramic finger slide and some heavy reverb and delay. The outro lead which sounds like a combination of flute and violin was accomplished pretty much the same way as the first lead except no use of the expression pedal so the notes are softer with heavier eq.

Thanks for the review bro, I will see what I can do about the length. Honestly it's always difficult for me to return to a track after I have wrapped it up and moved on but this was fun for me so I'll see what I can do, but I will address that pop you speak of which is most likely a lack of fade on that ending lead.

I am a fan of Asian music and I love what you have make with my loop. Thank you for having credited me, keep going you have huge talents !
    Neomorpheus
Reply by Neomorpheus Hey bro, glad you approve of my use of your loop and thanks a lot, not only for making it but also taking time to comment on the track. This is really an experiment for me, and not having much knowledge or experience with Hip Hop I figured it would be easier and probably provide better results by using a drum loop or sample that was appropriately designed. I have loads of Hip Hop drum samples but having been involved in a recent Forum discussion here regarding loops I decided I wanted to use something from Looperman. Its funny because I scrolled through several pages of Hip Hop drum loops without even listening to anything and then I happened upon your entries and saw the words "very cool" in the title and thought very cool by Axzoul has got to be worth a listen. The first choice turned out to be exactly what I was looking for !
