Description : This track was recorded about six years ago as a musical present for my daughters birthday. I had spent countless hours on the finished version only to have my computer crash and I lost all the original tracks. Of course I was crushed, fearing all was lost. Fast forward a year or so later and I found this unfinished version of the track. Keep in mind that this was about two thirds of the way finished at the time and there are missing sections of the bass, keyboards, strings, etc. And for some reason there was a unknown soure of "static" on the bass track which had been corrected in the finished version. I had never thought about releasing this track for those reasons. But since it's such a fun track and it is my daughters birthday today (June 5th) I thought why not?

Now that you have the back story, this is
a multi-genre track. Disco,Jazz, Funk, Lantin percussion and hip hop. I would like to greatly thank all the musicians who gave of their time and talent. Art Miller (guitars), T.J. Watson (Soprano Sax), Slap Johnson (sax solo) and big D (that's me) bass, keyboards, piano, synth, clavinet and arrangement.
Happy Birthday Kayla! :)

Good arranging. Liked every bit of it, especially the synth choices and dissonant sax runs. Faved.

Man...this is like a warm blanket...good time groove from the time when it was done like it should be (my bias of course)...You are one fine talent on those keys & bass my friend...Glad you caught up with enough of the mix to finish it. That is good company you`ve got on sax & guitar...really well done...much enjoyed....As you can see I`m just catching up with your page now...have to admit to being really slack about getting around the Loop (or any of the sites) this time of the year...I have redesignated Winter as peak music season up here...I`ll be back for more...Bravo...keep on,.. you do it well....If you have a page over on SC I wouldn`t mind if you sent me a link....Cheers....Ed

Hey Ed Thank you so very much for your wonderful review of this track and the kind words. For some reason I thought you had already heard this track? I'm glad that you enjoyed as much as you have; unfortunately I don't have a sound cloud account. It seemed too difficult to create a account that I just passed on it (lol). Been so busy with other things but hope to get back to recording soon. And thanks once again,

    Cheers

Definitely a crazy groovy track man! I'm really sorry you lost the finished version, trust me I know how it feels. My old laptop which I recently replaced completely messed up on me and corrupted all my tracks, finished and unfinished. Now I just save everything to usbs becausse I can't really afford a new hard drive at the moment :) Anyways, the track definitely as that 70s vibe to it, I'm sure your daughter would have loved it! Much love man!

Hey Nelephant thanks so much for your review. Wow your laptop corrupted all your tracks? Yikes! Well like I've heard from
everyone who has commented thus far, I guess we"ve all have experience that dreadful fate. Now that I think about it, that's how I found this track. I had apparently forgotten that I had saved this version on it. Then late last year of course my laptop
took a dump on me as well lol.

Yes the track does have a 70's 80's vibe to it. "The Humps" just commented on that fact,
to which I replied "I'm a product of that era and it certainly reflects in my music."
Although my daughter never got hear the finished version, she has however heard this
version and she absolutely loved it!
Again thanks for listening and I'm glad you
    liked it.

We've all felt the pain of losing sessions because of a crash, tough pill to swallow. Now I use a 1 TB backup drive, no worries anymore!!

Reminds me of music from the 70's, jazzy disco. Real nice composition, I would like to have listened to the finished track. Great guitar, it really stood out. So much goodness happening, can't imagine what is missing!

Hey Wayne thanks so much for your wonderful review you're too kind. Yes, like yourself I to invested in a 1TB backup external drive.
Just wished I had done it before the loss.
I'm glad that you picked up on the "era" in
which I was conveying, which of course was the 70's. Since I'm a product of that era, it comes out naturally in my music I suppose.

Yes I wish you could have heard the finished version also, it was really nice. The guitar
tracks were executed beautifully by my best
friend and guitar player (Art Miller).
He has played on alot of my songs and always
makes my songs sound sooo good! And this track was no exception, in fact I'm always
calling him and thanking him for his beautiful work on this track even years after this was recorded.

Since I'm not a formally trained musician,
I had to sing the part that I refer to as the "Rhythm on Rhythm" guitar part. The guitar riff he plays in conjunction to TJ's melody sax hook. After I sang how I wanted the part to go, Art just picked it up and ran away with it. And like you stated, it really sticks out in a great way.

I love this track despite this not being the
finished version and the track missing major
Bass parts, keyboards, strings, flaws, etc.
And I'm happy to have finally released it after all these years for my daughters birthday (june 5th). Thanks once again for your review and I'm so glad you liked the track. Sorry I hit the "post button" by accident, which is why there are 2 post.

    Best Regards

I once lost an hard drive from a laptop that fried, lost most my teenager midi compositions, I was really sad.

Hey DK I see you have returned, so glad you
you liked this track. Yes there's nothing like losing your work when your hard drive crashes, it's like being kicked in your stomach. I know for myself that I was depressed for awhile because I had lost a considerable amount of marital.

But I guess like anything else, you learn and move on. Again so glad you enjoyed the track and thanks for your review.

Congrats on retrieving what seemed lost man! This track is incredible. Loving the Jazzy and funk feel. The use of the instruments like the sax took everything to next level. I'm a jazz musician, and absolutely loved the improvisation. I hope to hear more like this again, brother man. Happy birthday to your little one, also!

    Reply by Dennel

Hey GO thanks so much for the kind words and
review. Yes I was very elated when I found a
copy of this track (years later). Though it wasn't a copy of the finished version, at least I had something for all the man hours I had invested. As "The Humps' so correctly
commented, I had invested in a 1TB external
backup drive after that, but it was obviously too late. There was a wonderful "smooth jazz" track I had been working on entitled "Sausalito Sunrise"; that I'm depressed over losing.

Though my daughter never heard the finished version, she did however still love this take. And thanks for the Happy Birthday wishes, she is a music artist in her own right. By you being a jazz musician I'm glad you got were I was coming from. I love sax players and I love improvisation as well. I'm a huge jazz lover which sparked doing tracks like this.

Thanks again for listening and for your wonderful review, it was greatly appreciated.

    Best Regards

Hey Darknives, yeah... unfortunately I had lost a few tracks during that fiasco that
I'll never get back. The only reason I have a copy of this, is because I had saved this
it on my laptop. Can you say "Massive External Drive" every since? Lol... Hope you
liked the track and thanks for the comments.

Description : This song highlights a few different styles of jazz. First it starts with a kinda early 20s and 30s groove. Than it melds into a New Orleans style. Than into a sort of Maynard Ferguson big band jazz/rock groove, and finishing off with the 20s and 30s style again, all held together with some cool horns and bass. All n all, it's...Pretty Cool! Hope you like

Description : Do not freak out just because this is jazz! There's also blues, rock, funk and a little hip hop in it to break up the deep, chillout jazz sections - gets particularly rocking then funky at the end. Main bassline (the track's foundation) is recycled leftover slide resonator guitar parts detuned one octave to make a slide bass sound. Also features: piano, violin, hammered dulcimer, organ, ethereal pad guitar, bass guitar, jazz/blues/rock electric guitar and multiple programmed acoustic drumkits. This was difficult to make at times as I thought I needed more leads parts eg from sax or trumpet. But I'm happyish with the end result. I expect very little interest in this as it's both jazz and long jazz. But it's also an unusual type of genre-mixing jazz. So, leave your thoughts, good or bad, if you like...

Description : This track contains only free loops from Stayonbeat.com and several loops from Looperman artists (listed below). I "made a promise" that my next track will be use a lot of jazzy loops - well, i done with this track, for the great sadness of jazz lovers or experts i think - i fear they will never forgive me. :) While my ISP launches my internet out of the Earth system for a long time, i had to face the fact that i dont have too much downloaded jazz loops on my computer, so i think no wonder that this one is sounds like if i smoke some marihuana while making it. But hey, who cares, i like the result - it reminds me the (maybe only) really funny episode of "Breaking Bad", where Pinkman uses some heroin and flyes up with an idiotic smile on his face - that chapter is priceless. :D
I dont think this one needs a vocal, but ofcourse you can use it if you want, and as always, just write and i will give any support as i can. Any feedback welcomed too as always. Enjoy! UPDATE 2015.10.24.: improved audio quality - lower lows, higher highs. Now in 256kbps!

Description : Music by Antonio Carlos Jobim. This particular piano arrangement is from one of jazz sheet piano books I found on scribd. The electric piano is MrRay22 plugin which I played on Casio CDP220 digital piano. This is also a new piece that I learned today so it was quite tricky to get a proper touch at places and overall make the entire thing sound anywhere realistic. I tried many times and this was probably the best take. Also I am relatively new to playing latin piano music. I didn't manipulate any notes after recording - instead I added few virtual vintage amps. I choose jazz but it is a bossa nova latin style. Enjoy and feel free to comment and download.

Description : "Oh no - not jazz metal! You're not supposed to mix those genres together." Yes, but someone's got to and the musical gods have chosen me for the difficult task. 9 mins of instrumental jazz metal - damn I sure know how to write a hit song - US No 1 here I come. Anyway - there's some dark, swinging groovy jazz, with Rhodes and guitar as the main instruments, for a few minutes and then some haunting, thumping evil breaks loose. Look out for the powerful synth horn sound. And then it just gets heavier and heavier before returning to some nice chillgroove funky mystery jazz. Instruments played and/or programmed: electric guitar, bass guitar, electric cello, multiple programmed acoustic drumkits, filtered strings, Rhodes, big synth bass, evil synth horn and a few other assorted synths. I assume this has too much jazz for metallers and too much metal for jazzers. So, only for weirdoes like me who enjoy both. This will surely be too odd for most people but I like to think it's pretty interesting and powerful. Let me know how its weirdness worked for you...
