Wow... nice guitar harmonics (I think). I know those are hard to get. If you did it on bass, ahaha.. hats off. I use amplitude guitar amp with my bass. You detuned that bass to C, seriously deep! It gets seriously funky at 2.20 with a super smooth synth...

I do recommend getting SLAM Pro to make a really smooth rich demo without having to think s much. You need to bring out that bass and kick drum... I love the sound, mood and emotion. Down with you, keep it going!

Amazing groove from drums and bass! First time, I tried to find what is the key of this music, but gradually I felt let it go away by the punch of grooves. thanx.

Yeah I remembered when they moved the bass forward as the lead string instrument in songs. That is what kept funk, funky!

    Thanks!

When I saw a new one from you I just had to log in for a listen Joe...Lovin the slap bass...I have fooled around with the style on my old J Bass a few times but its a style I still need to practice ....the bass really carries a good share of the melody & nicely backed up by that organ sounding little synth bit...Thoughtful com,posing..bringing in those tasty guitar bits at just the right time...put it all together with that snappy drum hit & some horn hits & you got one super fine Funky mix....Much enjoyed...you are the best Joe.......Ed

Funkalicious delight. You sure play a lot of instruments. That slap bass (or whatever it's called) is sweet. Dig the brass. Head-boppin', toe-tappin' start to my morning. Thank you. The only thing I want on this now is a voice. This is the kind of track that melodies and lyrics just spring out of. Could be the base of a great song!

Yeah, I remember this on Mixposure. Well done on making SOTW. Do you still participate in their chat rooms?

Man, how did you get that bass to sound so crisp? It really sits in front, along with the drums rather well. Fabulous display of engineering skills and arrangement, if anyone knows funk, it's you brother. You set the bar high for many, including me, so thank you for the inspiration. Thank you for allowing us to download it. 10/10. Respect :)

Hey Man I am just catching up when I find this FUNKY Jam. Man this is pure FUNK. The bass line funky powerful. Grooving along when at 2:14 dem keys roll in HOT. Then 3:20 just bass and drums smoking and finally 3:38 dem keys kick in again. You see I enjoyed this Funky number. I also feel some 70's tracks embedded in this song! Great Job! Fiãofsoul

Very cool and interesting take on the funk style here! It seems different from the generic texts I have read about funk composition, and I appreciate it for that. You've made it your own, your "namesake" so to speak. Super groovy clavinet part here! I'm very happy to hear of your success with this song, and in general! With the addition of a music man ray34 bass to my arsenal recently, I'm beginning to appreciate this sort of tone. It was barely possible with the basses which I had sitting around. With the music man hybrid tube/SS amp head and the carvin cab, the tone possibilities are endless. I don't know if this bass in the song is sampled, but either way it sounds pretty freekin cool. Nice work on this song!

I just realized I don't respond, and that has been truly an unfortunate error on my part. I know have a huge back log of responses to sort through.

Sometimes when people don't respond it has unintended consequence I have come to realize. But all the same, thanks. I will try to be more prompt in the future. Thanks for the review.

Any advice on how to make a funk track?

    JoeFunktastic
    Reply by JoeFunktastic

Hey Greg! Well I do hip-hop once in a while man did you know that? So Funk is a state of mind I get in to. You got to go find some old Funk records on the Internet and listen to them, I mean really listen to them. Play one song about 4 0r 5 five times. You will hear something new you missed the time before. Then maybe remix a favorite Funk song. Then try to understand the elements of Funk, Rhodes, Clav, Organs, moog, slap bass, the drums, the sax, tambourines, and shakers, there's much more. Understand on how they relate. Remember in funk there are rules and it is structured, I mean you have a chorus, bridge, a verse, a break and an into and an outro. Structure is key at first and the unique sections must be respected at first, no music sound salads. It would really hard to go into all here. And I have no free time either bro. Bu thanks for asking. Mr. Funk!
