Description : My two year old granddaughter came to visit papa, and wanted to sit at the keyboard and play a little. After a bit I decided to record her efforts, and then see about adding a little backing music to make her very first song. While she isn't a Frédéric Chopin, or a Franz Liszt, I think she's pretty special. And I had fun creating it. So, I proudly present Averie, accompanied by her papa.

Your granddaughter certainly has a taste for controlled dissonance - I suspect she had help from Grandpa. Nevertheless, this in no way detracts from what is quite an interesting listen - a good story is a good story regardless.

I'd keep a close watch on that young one. I believe she's got it already. Music has no limitations , young or old. PDMuzak

Thanks PD. She was here over the weekend and I was able to get some of her "vocal" work recorded, it is some funny stuff. Now I've just got to incorporate it into a song. Thanks so much for stopping by to listen and comment. I hope all is well.

Nice one Bear, having this song will always hold memories for both of you, although she is young and will hopefully remember this! Next time write it in the key of C and restrict here to the white keys, trust me, it will be a hit!!

Hope you are well Bear and that everyone at home is doing great. Keep pushing those instruments on the young folk. Fun track!

Hey Wayne, sorry for the late reply. Been crazy around here. We are headed to our granddaughter's in a couple of weeks to welcome her new baby brother into the world. I am taking one of my guitars and my smaller Peavey amp and see if we can't record a duet on guitars. She really thinks she's a rocker with her pink Fender. I set it up in drop D tuning so she at least sounds like she can play a D chord, haha. Anyway, we are excited to welcome the new one and have fun spoiling Averie. I hope all is good down in the land of sun and fun. Again, I will pass the kind feedback on to Averie. I hope all is well.

This actually isn't that bad for a two year old ! ha Hope all is well SB. Least she put a little effort into it, the clashing notes are expected for a two year old. Oh well. lol Maybe she can come back on it when she gets older. Good work so far. Catch you around

Thanks Neo. She thinks she is Liberace when she sits down at the piano, haha. I am trying to teach her the basics of piano, and she is getting the concept a little. We'll keep trying and having fun. As always, your support is greatly appreciated. I hope all is well.

well...I know that if Papa has anything to do with it Avarie will be one of those shining musicians that we can listen in awe to.....must have been a proud moment Bear...and what a great souvenir to have.....bravo Averie....I am cheering....Ed

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

Hey Ed, thanks so much for the kind feedback. It was a great moment for both Averie and her grandpa for sure. When I put the music to her recording she looked at me like, "Is that the best you got?" hahahahaha. Anyway, next song up for Papa and Averie will be a guitar number. She likes to wear the guitar slung low like Keith Urban and plays it like a bass guitar, really funny stuff. Hope all is well up your way Ed. Again, our thanks for the kind feedback.

Teaching my Grandson to play guitar, sounds very much like this
only his fingers are not tough enough yet...hahaha.... :)
Let her hear this 10yrs from now and look at, the expression
on her face...It will be worth moment 100x over...

She did great...You just OK...Just joking...Don't you love it
    when a plan comes together...

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

I'm definitely going to have her listen to this one when she's a little older, haha. She thinks she's pretty good right now, hahahaha. Next song with her will be on guitar....I bought her a pink Strat when she was born. She loves to wear it low like Keith Urban and then pound the hell out of it like it's a bass guitar. Pretty funny stuff. Anyway, it's great to pass this obsession of ours on to the grandkids (just like my grandpa did for me). I'll pass the kind words along to her TG. Thanks so much for taking the time to listen and comment. I hope all is well.

Mr. Bear I was listening to this at work, and I thought, hmmm is there something else on my computer playing! LOL. Then I looked up and read the description, good thing too. It's been 2 years already!!!

Good job Averie! Oh, and Mr. Bear. :-)

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

Hahaha, thanks Patricia! I can see where you would shake your head a bit if you didn't read the description....you probably thought the old Bear had a stroke or something, hahaha. Anyway, she will be 3 the end of July and she has a little brother on the way who will arrive the end of August. And man is Papa excited!!! Anyway, I hope all is well with you and that success has found you like you so richly deserve (I looked for you at the Grammy's but was disappointed to not hear them call your name). I hope you have a great summer. Thanks so much for stopping by to listen to Averie's work. She will be excited to hear what you had to say.

    Hey Bear

Mate hope you are keeping well my friend, loving this, showing some talent already at 2 yrs, hopefully it will be something she is interested in when little older, My granddaughter is just over one, since I can not play a thing she wont be making tunes with me unless she adapts to using loops, I'm a little jealous that you get to share this with your granddaughter something you excel at making music...adding this to favs because it is so sweet, hearing this from a youngster...Peace n Respect dear friend...Mosaic..

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

Hey Mos, thanks so much. It is a lot of fun to have her start to experiment with real instruments. I think the next thing we record will be something on a guitar. That should be fun, haha. Hey, maybe when your grand daughter is a little older you can both learn an instrument at the same time....that could be a lot of fun for both of you. Anyway, I will pass your kind feedback along to Averie. Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope all is well.

haha this is fun! now I feel a bit jealous of her talent as I started my formal musical education relatively late (I was about 11) haha.

Some of these piano chords sound very cool:) Great start!

thank you for sharing this lovely little piece.

    all the best, alex

    Hi Barry

Well I can't think of a better way to spend time than with your daughter at the piano! I'm sure she enjoyed the whole process and it certainly shows potential. Look forward to the next tracks.

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

Thanks Richie. Averie is our first grandchild, and having her interested in music is a gift beyond belief. Next time I'm going to see if we can't get her to do something on the pink Strat I bought her, a little drop D tuning should make for an interesting session, haha. I appreciate the kind words and will make sure she hears them as well. Thanks so much for stopping by to listen and comment. I hope all is well.

Ha - this is a bit of fun.

Surely this is the youngest ever musician to feature on the Loop. Am I right?

Would almost need to be a baby to beat the record.

End result is not at all bad, though helped by your added classier elements.

Let's just say the "wrong" notes are all intentional and she's really an accomplished free jazz player.

Let's hear her do drum 'n' bass next.

Also, what are her track reviews like? Surely she can manage a "nice track bro", right?

I sometimes wonder if that type of review is mostly written by 2-year-olds...

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

Thanks Static. I think Averie just might be the youngest to post on here. I know Joe's daughter posted a couple of songs and she was 5 or 6 I think when she did it. And Slap's son Alex was around 10 or 11 when he made his debut.

It was a great and proud moment for me when she sat down on the old bench and played for over a minute, quite an accomplishment for someone with a "not so long" attention span. I think her next track will be something rock and roll. I bought her a pink Fender Strat, so I think drop D tuning will work well for her, hahaha. I'll pass your kind words along to her. As always, your time and cohesive feedback is greatly appreciated. I hope all is well.

Thanks Danke and thank you from Averie as well. She loves to pound on the keys and she's starting to pound on her Fender Strat now too. So maybe her next number will be a guitar song, haha. Description : Do not freak out just because this is jazz! There's also blues, rock, funk and a little hip hop in it to break up the deep, chillout jazz sections - gets particularly rocking then funky at the end. Main bassline (the track's foundation) is recycled leftover slide resonator guitar parts detuned one octave to make a slide bass sound. Also features: piano, violin, hammered dulcimer, organ, ethereal pad guitar, bass guitar, jazz/blues/rock electric guitar and multiple programmed acoustic drumkits. This was difficult to make at times as I thought I needed more leads parts eg from sax or trumpet. But I'm happyish with the end result. I expect very little interest in this as it's both jazz and long jazz. But it's also an unusual type of genre-mixing jazz. So, leave your thoughts, good or bad, if you like...

Description : This song highlights a few different styles of jazz. First it starts with a kinda early 20s and 30s groove. Than it melds into a New Orleans style. Than into a sort of Maynard Ferguson big band jazz/rock groove, and finishing off with the 20s and 30s style again, all held together with some cool horns and bass. All n all, it's...Pretty Cool! Hope you like

Description : This track contains only free loops from Stayonbeat.com and several loops from Looperman artists (listed below). I "made a promise" that my next track will be use a lot of jazzy loops - well, i done with this track, for the great sadness of jazz lovers or experts i think - i fear they will never forgive me. :) While my ISP launches my internet out of the Earth system for a long time, i had to face the fact that i dont have too much downloaded jazz loops on my computer, so i think no wonder that this one is sounds like if i smoke some marihuana while making it. But hey, who cares, i like the result - it reminds me the (maybe only) really funny episode of "Breaking Bad", where Pinkman uses some heroin and flyes up with an idiotic smile on his face - that chapter is priceless. :D
I dont think this one needs a vocal, but ofcourse you can use it if you want, and as always, just write and i will give any support as i can. Any feedback welcomed too as always. Enjoy! UPDATE 2015.10.24.: improved audio quality - lower lows, higher highs. Now in 256kbps!

Description : "Oh no - not jazz metal! You're not supposed to mix those genres together." Yes, but someone's got to and the musical gods have chosen me for the difficult task. 9 mins of instrumental jazz metal - damn I sure know how to write a hit song - US No 1 here I come. Anyway - there's some dark, swinging groovy jazz, with Rhodes and guitar as the main instruments, for a few minutes and then some haunting, thumping evil breaks loose. Look out for the powerful synth horn sound. And then it just gets heavier and heavier before returning to some nice chillgroove funky mystery jazz. Instruments played and/or programmed: electric guitar, bass guitar, electric cello, multiple programmed acoustic drumkits, filtered strings, Rhodes, big synth bass, evil synth horn and a few other assorted synths. I assume this has too much jazz for metallers and too much metal for jazzers. So, only for weirdoes like me who enjoy both. This will surely be too odd for most people but I like to think it's pretty interesting and powerful. Let me know how its weirdness worked for you...

Description : Music by Antonio Carlos Jobim. This particular piano arrangement is from one of jazz sheet piano books I found on scribd. The electric piano is MrRay22 plugin which I played on Casio CDP220 digital piano. This is also a new piece that I learned today so it was quite tricky to get a proper touch at places and overall make the entire thing sound anywhere realistic. I tried many times and this was probably the best take. Also I am relatively new to playing latin piano music. I didn't manipulate any notes after recording - instead I added few virtual vintage amps. I choose jazz but it is a bossa nova latin style. Enjoy and feel free to comment and download.
