How is everything with U master ..?
it's best news of this depressed eveining to find a new tune of yours ...I'd missed hearing mastertpieces...
......wonderfull its ..... such a rich orchestration & desgned atmospher ... that considered (calculated) suspension which happens @ 3:12 - 3:22 sounds so instructive ...
..... long time, hadn't found such instructive track ...
Bear ,Barry dear please take care of yourself ...
.... how I shoould write my waving hands ?...I don't know ...but someone has great respects for U beyond this old fat monitor in Tehran ...

Behnam my brother, how are you? I worry about you over there in the middle of that mess in the Middle East. I wish sometimes that you were in London with your mother and away from all of that crazy stuff that is going on.

Thanks for the kind feedback on this one. I put it together for the competition and tried to make the mixing and mastering errors obvious in places, but subtle in others. It has been a fun competition and it will be difficult to pick a winner.

Take care of yourself my friend. Keep your head down until things cool off over there. I do hope all is well. I'm waving back at you, returning the respect....a fat man behind a skinny monitor, haha.

Hey Mark, I hope all is good with you and your family. I have been thrilled with the response to this little comp. This particular version I have posted has a lot of errors in it and it was used as an example for the others on what not to do, hahaha. Anyway, thanks for stopping by my neck of the woods. Take care.

i listened to orlandos ans spivkurls just now, so I have the hang of this now....i didnt know you all using the same music for the first, the production is good on all of them, its not about winning, you guys all have talent, i left the other comments on another version about the song itself which i didnt know its your arrangment. it's really nice, i dont want to repeat myself....i can see it in a movie as the end credits, or as a journey that the main character goes riding horses , like some cowboy riding on a horse or something lulz it s good bro , has a definite southern usa feeling to it/, like i picture canyons with some cactus and rivers

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the kind feedback. Hopefully this challenge presented some of the obstacles that an sound engineer faces when working in the studio. And I hope it has been a beneficial exercise for everyone who decided to enter. As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated. I hope all is well.

Hey mate, hope you been well, haven't heard or seen you much of late, hope all is well my friend...Impressive intro to this very beautiful piece, have to agree with Pat, this is one of those tracks you could enjoy listening to over and over, seems to have many levels to take you for the ride, keeping it interesting, I had thought about doing comp now seeing that it is a competition, but seriously don't think I am up to the standard of yourself and the others here, so will just enjoy the listen...Extremely good listen my friend...Peace n much Respect Friend...Mosaic...Fav'd...

    Hi Bear,
I am not going to participate to the competition: I have not much time currently, but more important, I am not as good as some of the other guys here and this little gem deserves nothing less than the best!
Looking forward to hearing what our looperman friends will make out of this one... and of course I want to hear your own version!
    Hope everything is well there!
    Ciao, Domenico

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

Hey Domenico, how are you my friend? I think you underestimate your skills and I know you would be able to do a version worthy of first place. This is a good challenge for people because there are a lot of errors in this that need to be overcome to get a good mix and master. Several of the entries have done really well fixing this mess. As always, thank you for taking the time to listen and comment. I hope all is well.

hi, this is some interesting piece - I like very much the chord progression in this song. Too bad it gets far too loud at the end... I do not much like the idea of competition, needless to say I am not actually 'mixing' anything - just trying to get the right sound from the start... But anyway apart from all that this is very enjoyable chill song and very nicely done recording that should sound perfect on the radio I guess.

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

Thanks Alex, I really appreciate your candor. This one is nothing more than a bad example for the competition, haha. I will do a proper mix and master on it at some point after the competition is over with and then post my vision/version at that time. As always, your critiques are most welcome and appreciated. I hope all is well.

Well Bear...I am entirely happy just listening to this the way you have put it together and given your get the take of fellow artists on it ...I think you have indeed left plenty of opportunities to take it in a variety of directions....Very nicely done Bear (as always)and kudos to you for the encouragement & support always offered to us here on the Loop....and in my own case..frequent sources of incentive when the music comes less easily....Must head over to the forum & get me those stems, although I have so little music time available the next while I likely will just have to set it aside until fun time returns....Stay well....Ed

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

Hey Ed, good to see you peek your head in for a bit. I was thinking a friendly competition with a fairly level playing field would be fun. If you don't have time to participate, don't worry about it. But grab the stems and then sometime this winter when you are bored, maybe you could do a remix and actually make a song out of it, hahaha. Anyway, all is good here and I hope you have a long, warm, and pleasant fall in the north country. As always, your support is greatly appreciated.

Well this should be different, not the usual sounds I am used to working with. I like the idea of this competition, we are all at an equal starting point. I hope a lot of people get involved with this one, would be nice to hear many different mixes from many people from all the different genres.

On a second listen, there are some acoustic tracks, cool! Thanks for starting up this competition. I think it is a good practice to try mixing other peoples tracks. The song is interesting and your version leaves some room for improvement, lets hope.

Hope all is well with you and your family. Stay out of the heat!

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

Hey Wayne, I am really glad you are going to participate. My mix and master has quite a few issues, some pretty obvious, and some that will only be picked out by nuanced and experienced people like you. I am hopeful this ends up being a beneficial exercise for a lot of people. As always, thanks for your support.

All is good here, the heat is beginning to subside, and the best time of the year in the desert is upon us. I hope you are doing OK, especially with the hurricans and tropical storms.

  25. Spivkurl
Spivkurl on Thu 28th Aug 2014 - 5 years ago

Cool idea for the competition! As far as a cinematic track goes, I think I could actually enjoy it enough to hear it over and over again while mixing and mastering, so that's a success in itself. Already hearing things that could be improved. Will probably get involved, and have downloaded the stems. Cool track as is though!

    Reply by ShortBusMusic

Hey thanks Pat. It is great to get someone as accomplished as yourself involved on this. Hopefully some of the younger members will use you as an example and try to hone their skills. I really look forward to what you do with this one. Thanks for the support. I hope all is well.

Description : HEY, hey guys...IM BACK! and it feels amazing. I took a month or so off to work thru some shit, and in that time i bring you this. Personally my best work so far imo. I may add lyrics to it eventually, but not sure yet. The original has a longer beginning for that reason. Thanks to chanho17 for uploading great piano loops for use. let me know what you think!

Description : First off, I am a huge fan of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "The Hobbit." After watching all of the movies (including the final chapter of the Hobbit", I was motivated to write something that I thought might work with their journey home.

Samplitude has a couple of great new VST's, one called "World Flutes" and the other "Celtic Harp" and I used both of them in this song. I created every last note on this one. Guitars were all Fenders, soft synths besides the Samplitude items mentioned previously were created in the SynthMaster series by KVR, and the strings were created with Samplitude's "String Ensemble."

Not sure about the mix (my hearing is shot), so most of the mixing is done by sight instead of listening. If you hear something way out of whack, let me know. If you are interested in taking this one further, let me know and I'll post a link to the stems. Thanks to the Hobbit for the inspiration and to you for listening.

EDIT: I've had some requests for the individual instrument stems so here is the link to all of those files. The tempo is 80bpm. Feel free to do whatever you want with this one.

EDIT: I've had over 200 downloads of the stems, so if you have done anything with them it would be cool to hear it (thanks for the interest).

Description : Been awhile hasn't it?
2016 has been quite the nasty little cunt, honestly didnt know if i would make it. A Cinematic Spoken Word about how I deal with things, and why i still go on..

Description : it is! Another colab with maestro Tumbleweed! Ed provided the unfinished, basic track...I composed and recorded the long intro using different synths and then added piano (well to the fore) and some brass arrangements along the rest of the track (no violin this time...hehe) and then did the final mixing to wrap it up as it is presented now. I hope you will enjoy it and we both appreciate your listening time and your valuable comments:) Otherwise all thanks to Ed!

Description : I had no particular intention doing this, but then it just came on me out of nowhere....How to make an antithesis Halloween work!? Prior to that there were no plans to make a track for the occasion, furthermore I've never been really interested in such a thing. It always seemed a bit silly to me if not outright childish. But then I remembered the Interview with The Vampire and Bram Stoker's Dracula. My gosh, there was some peculiar romanticism in there and I probably don't have to tell you twice that this must be a bait for Orlando, as is a cup of fresh young blood for a vampire...:) Furthermore I like people who are different, so I just have to like vampires who a different as it should be dawning on you by now that this won't be your standard Halloween tune...haven't I mentioned "antithesis"? growling zombies, midnight cemetery bells, creaking doors or any of your favourite horror sounds, although it's still a little bit darker in tone...hell yeah, vampires are still vampires...haha...but this one is mainly about a vampire desperately in love with a young lady, craving for her as a madman...I won't tell whether she's also a vampire or not, cause you might figure it out listening to the track...^^ Otherwise it was about time for me to come up with a new solo work, since I've been almost exclusively doing collabs in those past few months (which I love ofcourse)...afteral you can always ask Ed...:)^^____Happy Halloween folks!:)

Description : As first, just forget about the genre...I had to put something, didn't I?:) Otherwise this is something like enjoying sunshine, but to make the feeling a bit more complicated is also about not wanting to have it directly in my face...hehe...

Description : No more singing now...haha! So what comes next?
I belong to the nation which has a great passion for alpinism (not myself though)..:) This newly composed and recorded stuff is dedicated to all of those who stayed in the grip of Himalaya forever!...Respect!

Description : This time around I made a rare exception in terms of my usual way of doing things. In most cases I avoid using samples, loops or any other kind of pre-recorded material due to my strong preference of making music from scratch! Yet, here is one of those rare occasions where I decided to combine my recently composed and recorded material with some samples from Magix sound library. And here is the result...not necessarily cinematic...but you know..:)^^ Any comments appreciated!
