Description : Hi buddies ! This track is a wink to Mike(MStokes) whose "burn, burn, burn" words have sort of become a motto for me .
This is emo-like . I put a lot of heart and work in it . I wanted to make a hymn about the power of love and hope .
"The only strength, the only value, the only dignity amongst every other one, is to be loved" . Charles Péguy .

I love you babe, and love you all so much too !

Speaking of Michael, where has he been?

I like the separate vocal tracks and how they are set in the mix. This rocks, reminds me a bit of Garbage(the band, lol). Well done putting this together. Always a pleasure!

Love the bass line and lead guitar work...although I would have liked the lead guitar saved for the chorus and a more muted one in between your verses...agree the sort of honky tonk keys are a bit out of place with the overall "mood"...but most of all your vocals are just so adaptable and strong...no pun intended...great to hear you again!

janis71 replied 21st Jan 2014 - 11 years ago
Yeah, you're surely right 'bout the guitars ( thx for the piece of advice ) and the honky tonk keyboard, Sir (though I like them there) .
I'm grateful to you for your interesting and warm comment,
Merci beaucoup !
Cheers

As always...you have done a superb piece of musical art Carole....I like Michael`s "burn...burn....burn" reference...for many years I have adopted the theme from an old song by John Kay...."Feed the fire".......The world could use many more people to face each other in peace..and state the cause for love.......Ed

Hey!

This is great stuff. My favorite part is between 1:07 - 1:15 and 3:19 - 3:27. I'm weak for expressions like that.

I Also notice your time spent on puting together variations in the arrangement which makes a huge difference in this song comparing to if they would been left out.

I think you do it well and this is an execlent song that makes me think of the group Garbage in the 90's. Anyway, great job

Cheers, Anders.

Wow ! Thx for the comparison, Sir ! It makes me real happy .

Hi Carole,
So good to see a new song from you.
And what a song! I loved it!
Emo you say? well I am an old fashioned rocker, so to me this music says more "dark" (I can hear some early cure echoes, some new-order or siouxsie twists) ... but anyhow, great music for sure.
I love the way it starts: dry drum, good bass riff and then the first guitar note is simply a perfect introduction to your voice...
Your voice which (I agree to Bear) really comes close to the Lennox of the Eurythmics times (specially the very first verse). Wow! Goose bumps!
1:35 ... wonderful! the guitar solo and your voice's melody work perfectly together! and immediately after we have some short "shout&scream;" verses, which bring back the "post-punk" feeling. Totally loved!
The only think I would change is the "keyboard" solo at 2:35 (not bad, but not on par with the rest of the music).

Thanks again for this wonderful song!
I wish you a pleasant Christmas time!
Un abbraccio, Domenico

Hello Domenico ! How is my sweet friend ? 'Hope you started this new year with much joy and happiness .
I thank you very much for your detailed and instructive comment and the time you devoted to this little thingy !
I'm real happy you enjoyed it and you're right about the melotron solo ( sounds anachronistic but I found it funny ).

I wish you and your loved ones all the best for 2014 .
Take good care,
Un abbraccio in return

Well hello young lady, it has been a while since I visited for a cup of coffee and a listen. A little like Annie Lennox in spots (and that's a great thing).

You never cease to amaze me. You literally could sing anything, any genre, and make it a hit record.

I loved everything about this one. Put a big smile on my face. And your vocal range is breathtaking.

I hope all is well and wish you and your family a very happy holiday season.

Love the guitar play in it and the vocals ;) But I am missing a more rough electric guitar throughout the song but since this is rock it's not really required. Would then more take the genre of hard rock or metal

Description : This is my newest creation, at a stage very near to completion. No third-party mastering or mixing, as with all my tracks. Just have to fix a few tiny things. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO MIX EVERYTHING IN THE SAME SESSION. This song has all human-played instruments - no quantization or MIDI! My brother does all the vocals except for the interlude part, which I do. My other brother plays the rhythm guitar (a Gibson Les Paul Custom - only one of 12 in the world!!) and I play the accompanying guitar (a Johnny Mar Jag and PRS). He has a lot of guitars :P A good friend of ours, Ronnie, plays the bass and another friend, Freddie, plays the drums. The drum track was done in one take (had to use an electric drum set due to time constraints - but acoustic kits are so much better). Overall, pretty satisfied with the result. Let me know your thoughts.

Description : BIG UPDATE 26/02/2014 - So, this was an 18 min track that I have now successfully split in two. 2nd half I uploaded a few weeks ago (Things That Should Always Be, with the bouncy 2 min reggae intro). This is the first half, which has a new mix, a mega chill, meditative ending and a little jazz thrown in for good measure. Takes a few minutes for beat to really kick in. Constantly evolving electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic drums and lead banjo driven by fat, busy 80BPM grooves with a bit of a reggae and shuffle feel. Also: synth choir voices, dulcimer, violin, cello, shimmering pads. Builds up gradually to nice and rocking and then gets taken back down for the big comedown chill. I really don't know what sort of genre this is except 'far out'. I think it sounds more like a live band than one guy playing instruments and manipulating a DAW. Not my best track but a bit of blissful, sunny island fun. Real positive vibe here so I hope you give it a chance to unfold and unfurl. Sit back, clear your schedule and immerse yourself in these trippy sonic experiments cooked up deep in my off-planet underground laboratory. I have to send the MP3 to Earth via space courier (not cheap).

Description : This track was like the inhale after an exhale of aggressive industrial-electro-sludge tracks that I had put out that summer and fall. This was the more reserved, and introspective winter track. It's nothing spectacular, but I still really enjoy it. I hope you do too. Take care. V.
