some threads be looking like nigerian prince scams
reading an "looking for talented rappers/producers who willing to work hard" from profiles who are backed by absolutely nothing and give no explanation feels the same as "hot singles in your area"
a collaboration request that gives no details except for the possibility it might be music and "hmu" is usually a red flag for a trash producer who should really just be going through the acapella section of the site, but instead wants a unique one for the clout.
today there was a peticularly disgusting one that was looking for a female artist with a "hot body" which was especially hard to read because "talent wasn't necessary"
There are good requests, that talk in detail about what they're looking for and sometimes even put the specific tracks or type of track they want a collab on the post.
They're the good ones
I totally agree
Where ever you find good things in life there is usually something bad lurking close by. And such is the case here at Looperman. There's a lot of great talent here, so naturally there's going to be plenty of low life activity trying to exploit it. This has been a regular issue over the years and one that is unfortunately hard to police. Everybody just needs to be cautious and if you feel something is not right, just report it. You have to be smarter than these guys, which isn't hard to do. Before giving any time to any one you should always make a point to check out their profile. If they haven't uploaded anything or haven't provided any information for you to verify their credentials, don't waste your time. Don't get depressed by these people. They make their own choices. Instead, stay focused and feed off the positive energy here. That's what Looperman is really about.
Sorry to say it but be prepared to get even more depressed, sexist comments used to be policed here, but that's a thing of the past it seems and anything goes now, just look at the blatant racist and sexist comments made by a particularly odious member in this thread https://www.looperman.com/forum/thread/193073/im-the-best-producer-on-looperman-everyone-on-here-is-outta-key. Looperman like Neomorpheus says still has a lot going for it, unfortunately the wheels have fallen off.
too many trap producers here that just lay their bad drums over some loops but thats inevitable on a site like this
I pretty much never comment or raise forum threads now and I will continue not to all the time the forums are basically adverts. What's the point when after a few hours they are drowned out by more producer/tag/mixing/mastering requests. It's been like this for far too long now. Here's hoping one day these "forum" topics are shifted off to a new adverts section where they should've always been.
One of the biggest problems here on looperman is that there are really a lot of egocentric and idiotic little ones on the go.
This is unfortunately not only dull forum threads but also super great comments like - nice one - great - nice - and so on .... and of course the fact that now only very few comments are answered.
No, thanks or something. Add to that the bad habit of writing some offensive comments - it gets really bad with something like - music of handicapped people - the worst that exists - no talent - and so on .....
Although I can well imagine that it is not easy to stop everything but somehow you get the feeling that it would be necessary something decided against it to go.
Not so many years ago, it was friendlier and the musicians and commentators were somehow closer together.
I'm probably just too old and just not used to this kind of togetherness. But that's one of the points that I'm rather happy about. Stupidly drives me away this whole behavior but more and more opener and faster by looperman. Then I make some music and remember the nice time and come back, only to be quickly disgusted and disappear again.
I wholeheartedly agree with Joe.
I think maybe the moderator has fallen asleep on the job.
I hope he can wake up and do something about it otherwise it will be a mass migration from LM.
Nailed it Joe. I remember alot of great times and music not so long ago. Been hard getting back to it like we used to here. Very depressing threads these days!!
Looperman will just dismiss posts like these as a small group of people trying to get back to "the good ol days" and not embracing changing times, he hardly ever engages with the community and only occasionally hints at changes that never eventuate in terse one line comments. It's just totally crazy that a once thriving community with an unparalleled friendly vibe has sunk to nothing much more than a wanted ads section for soundcloud users, it all could be fixed so easily with a separate collaboration section, I've come to the conclusion that Looperman is only interested in making the site run on auto pilot.
I have been very staunch supporter of Looperman for many years. I think the things that initially attracted me to the place still exist, but I agree that these other less desirable aspects continue to flourish and it does get frustrating to many of us that have been here a long time and think back on what we consider the "better days". I am of the understanding that Shan runs the site primarily on his own so I tend to give him credit and overlook a lot of stuff. I actually thought at some point that you were a Moderator here Dave. I think that Shan is reluctant to certain change and as you say, elects to continue to run the site on "auto pilot". It probably has worked well for him and is most likely still satisfying his expectations.
I have argued against bashing the site with disgruntled members, I think you and I have even butted heads Dave but I understand your frustration and cant disagree with you. I now understand you and others are only wanting to see some changes that you think would improve the site or make it run better. the big question in all this is how can you convince Shan? As far as drastic modifications to the site, changing the colors, theme, structure, layout etc. it doesn't appear that is going to happen anytime soon, maybe never. And honestly If I was in Shans spot I wouldn't be so enthused about all that either. But it would be nice to see a few ideas, if only just one, get accomplished. I think the collaboration section that many have voiced support of should get serious consideration. I would be in support of you Dave. Why don't we consider calling Shan out. Start a petition thread. And ask all those in support of the idea to simply post their name and lets see if maybe that would work. Whats the worst that could happen...?
Well, not that the opinion of ol' Valvedriver matters much. It hasn't for a few years now. None the less, here it is anyhow.
I can't say for certain, because I'm not on chatting terms with the boy, but I have a feeling that with as long as he's been running the joint, and life outside of Looperman, Mr. L has probably lost a certain amount of interest in the place. I mean, other than the revenue that the ads generate, I imagine he's not getting much out of it, other than people bitching and complaining about how much it sucks.
Granted, it has lost A LOT of appeal over the last couple years. The little wanna-be producers and trap-brats coming in here thinking they're the next Quincy Jones, or Dr. Dre, and their shitty, egotistical attitudes really clutter up the place with unnecessary bullshit.
I've also noticed that the overall level of respect has dropped considerably. There was a time when comments on tracks, loops, etc. would be constructive criticism. If someone said your work sucked, they would back it up with ways to improve it. Now, it just sucks...end of comment. That is, if they even bother saying anything more than "Nice." Fuck off with that shit.
As far as your question, Neo: "...What's the worst that could happen?" I'll tell ya. he could say fuck it, and pull the plug entirely. Which, honestly, wouldn't effect me much at all with as little as I use the place anymore. I have the contact info for the people that matter. I mean, this place hasn't been a community for years. It's just a place where people dump their "work" under the illusion that they'll be some fuckin' superstar. Which really pains me to say, because, Much like you, I've been a diehard supporter of not only the site, but the man behind it. But, reality has to be grasped at some point, right?
In closing, I guess I'll just say that my choice to come back here is my own, knowing exactly what I'm coming back to. I remain hopeful that at some point I'll log on and the place will be a sleek new ride, but until then, I don't see anymore point in bitching about it. It clearly has done no good, nor does it appear that it will. Ya dig?
Take care, I guess.

I hear you bro and I dig. Had to check out your response as soon as I got the notification knowing full well it would be interesting and ...colorful. Its funny because when I posed my question, I actually had the same thought as you. Only thing is I lack the balls of steel to speak so frankly in this regard. (ha ha)
I'm like minded, I wish something would happen but I've never put much faith in wishes, my trouble is once I get on board with something I don't abandon it and will stick it out to the end, I don't think any sort of petition will do any good there would only be a handful of people on it so very easy to ignore, just about all the long time contributing members have left and all the new ones are soundcloud (insert derogatory description of your choice).
i think what we should do is to ask for more from the users, like ask them to explain what the hell they mean by "like minded individuals" or giving good advice for those who need it. in general being interactive with the good threads, conversations like these are what looperman should be about but, and i'm guilty of this myself, it shouldn't only be coming from criticism.
mr. l does what he can so we should too
"Rapper looking for Trapper"-business as usual,i am signing off
@ akabedhead
We did, man. We did ask more from the users. We did give good advice for those who needed it. But, it reached a point where those who needed it, didn't want to hear, or believe it. They couldn't handle the fact that their cookie cutter, assembly line music isn't "lit" or the "fire" they think it is. And as such, their fragile little egos were bruised and they took to the offense by displaying a shitty, disrespectful attitude. Those of us who were from the time when respect and community ruled supreme got sick of it, we don't deserve that kind of response, so, we bailed. We saw that our efforts were unappreciated, and clearly undeserved. Our voices were no longer being heard, so we shut up, and left the dregs to fend for themseves.

It was worth showing up to this thread just to see The Valve say "lit".
Yeah, the forum bullshit drove me out a while back. Appeals to Shan to make a few changes seems as effective as praying for God to cure polio. In the end, I met some solid people here, but all the lazy-ass forum noise from the vape sucking producers got in the way of meaningful communication.
I've been on this site for what...11 years now? I rarely participate in much of anything anymore and found a few quality connections through it, mostly due to how uneventful things are. I've sat here scrolling through the collaboration section for what..20 minutes now and found absolutely nothing beyond "Hey, let's collab and follow me on IG"
Doesn't seem like much is beyond followers.
Don't get me wrong, there are some good artists here, and mainly I use the acapella section more than anything to get a little inspiration flowing, but beyond that it's really dull.
This is the premier loop and vocal sample site in the world. Every contract I've signed has started out from action on this site.
Shan is doing a great job.
I'm not going to shitcloud or metube.
These ARE the good old days!
