Sad to say that a local legend, Ranking Roger of The Beat passed away yesterday. Met him a few times but did not know him personally but he was a good friend of many of my friends.

Gone too soon.
Ranking Roger was a delight to view on video, as his joyfulness was infectious. He had presence and style. RIP Roger.
My favorite video of his was "Tenderness" when he formed General Pubic with Dave Wakeling after the Beat disbanded:

RIP to the OG
Absolutely loved all of the Two Tone stuff from back in the day, and especially Mirror in the bathroom, and it still sounds as fresh as ever to this day!
RIP Roger.
A couple days ago I started the bass and drums, some singing and arrangement on Mirror in the Bathroom and in the process I found out he died and was saddened. I missed this post that was put up here on looperman but i did see the vid Shan put up in my process of learning the song. Great vid and a cool medley, with Bed's Too Big Without You thrown in.....pretty sweet!!
I noticed Dave Wakeling had put the Beat back together some years ago. I watched a few Dave Wakeling interviews on youtube, very interesting and funny guy to listen to. The Pete Townsend story is worth checking out.
The Beat were a big hit on college campuses all over America and the crowd I hung out with. Mirror would be definitely be one of the songs I wished i had if stranded on a desert island.
