    yeti09 : Sat 9th Sep 2017 : 1 year ago Hey folks,

I'm looking at buying some monitors as I currently only have standard usb powered speakers, I know nothing about what is good or bad in this area so if anyone has any recommendations on which make/model to look for I'd be grateful.

I am working on a tight budget though so they need to be reasonably priced too, not asking much eh

    Thanks

    Damian

slava72 : Sat 9th Sep 2017 : 1 year ago Yeti09:i still and up "polishing" my tird(tracks) on shitty computer speakers(as many people do)for 8€ from local chineas shop, best buy ever,my point is there is no need in spending 100 upon 100,i am sure you can get good enouph monitors in region 300-400€/$.

    yeti09 : Sat 9th Sep 2017 : 1 year ago I've seen some at £99, they got 4.5/5 rating, https://www.djsuperstore.com/product/mackie-cr3-active-monitor-speakers-pair.html

    Would these be any good?

Spivkurl : Sat 9th Sep 2017 : 1 year ago Been using Alesis Moinitor One MKII for a few years now, and I like their response. Of course, they require a power amplifier since they are passive speakers. They can be found for significantly less than I paid new now, but can not be found new it seems.

slava72 : Sat 9th Sep 2017 : 1 year ago Thing is i am not an expert, dont want to misslead you,but i started out with something simular,M-AudioAv30(still have them),and,to be honest, struggled alot,i.m.h.o. 3"is not enouph,i would highly recommend you go for 5"(inch) or highier(6,7,8")woofer size,i feel like biger woofer gives more "voliume",defenition, you can hear more ditails, and i guess difference in price 3"/5" not that big.

Spivkurl : Sat 9th Sep 2017 : 1 year ago I think that 6" woofer is about bare minimum for good low to mid frequency response.

slava72 : Sat 9th Sep 2017 : 1 year ago Spivkurl i agree ,but for people with very small budget 5" is a good "point to start from,6,7,8" of cours better.

topvega : Sun 10th Sep 2017 : 1 year ago I bought a pair of Dayton Audio B652 speakers and they absolutely rock for the cheap price.
29.80 plus like 7 bucks for shipping. Solid speakers.

I got them off Amazon but they are also available here>>>https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-b652-6-1-2-2-way-bookshelf-speaker-pair--300-652

Mahloo13 : Sun 10th Sep 2017 : 1 year ago Save a bit more money and buy a pair of monitors with a matched subwoofer. Whatever you end up buying make sure you listen to a lot of music on them to get to know their sound. 8" might be overkill in a small place without a pretty high monitoring volume. You'll still lack bass response and in an untreated room you'll have a lot of midrange and low midrange buildup.

asatluvr : Mon 11th Sep 2017 : 1 year ago krk rocket 5's...very good monitors and very popular so if you share projects, many studios, especially smaller studios use these so you'll get a similar mix..I love them...you can't go wrong
