Should I Release This Acapella

    Hello Looperman community!

I made a song a while ago that I just uploaded to SoundCloud that contains a bit of my own singing. I'm not sure whether or not I should release the acapella for remix, as that would entail me monitoring remixes that come in, as well as having to determine if I wanted to do another remix album.

Here is the song. If I see a demand for the acapella, I will release it. But there isn't a real point in doing so if no one wants to remix it. https://soundcloud.com/pugetsoundproductions/corruption-mattgroove-get-through-corruption-edit

I would also love some feedback, I can't get better without it!

    To RammoPro,

I'll release it publicly if the demand is high enough, but until then, I will avoid sending it to individuals.

Not sure what to make of your post. This is a post that begs many questions of your musical ambitions or what you are truly trying to achieve or accomplish here. First, props to you on your fantastic vocal, sounds well, way above average and maybe you should of just went to iTunes with it from the start because it is definitely good enough for that.

So here's what I am getting at, are you trying to build up your SounCloud following? No crime there, but just say so. Or do you have some grand visions of people clamoring and salivating or your awesome acapella so that you will run up your inbox with requests, and truly your right to so.

I would of released it as an acapella from the word go. Why? Because by now you would of had a lot of song remixes and a lot of people talking about you saying who is that guy? You would of have had remix posts all over the place by now instead of this wait and see thing you got going on. The music business can be very harsh and competitive, and you need every advantage possible to get your name and voice out there beyond this great website. Producers here will become less interested in you because of your wait and see thing you got going on here.

If I was your manager/promoter my number one goal would be is to get you heard everywhere through all means available to me so as to possibly get the ear of someone who can take you to the next level if you are really serious about your music. Finally I feel that you are Pop Music or a Pop Rock performer in my opinion. You got the wrong backing track for your song I believe. Keep up the good work, I wish you well and much success!

    To JosephFunk,

My main objective in posting to the forums is to properly gauge the demand for my acapella. I have released acapellas in the past for remixes, and I have familiarized myself with the processes involved. However, I have not been able to accurately tell if the demand supports the upload of one of the most sensitive pieces of my track that I can release, as it is rather easy for someone to create a song utilizing my acapella without properly labeling it. I have run into this problem in the past, and it is never fun to deal with.

Over my short time producing, I have made many different connections with talented producers, so if the situation calls for it, I can always keep the acapella private and send it to them. I know from past work that these artists will use my acapella properly and will give me the intended rights that I naturally have. They also make some pretty great remixes!

My SoundCloud following, while minimal compared to the likes of other recognized producers, is not as much of a concern to me as it may be to others. While it sure is great to fall asleep at night knowing I have gained a new follower, my real passion is simply creating music and sharing it with the Looperman community. Getting another repost on a track or having a new pair of ears listen to my music is simply a pleasant result of me communicating with all of the outstanding artists and producers here on Looperman.

The first genre of music that I started producing was heavy electronic, and over the years I have begun to establish a unique voice that I did not have when I first started out. In my latest album, I have been experiencing with lighter genres of EDM, but I always seem to fall back to dubstep, electro and other similar subgenres. I will most definitely get around to focusing specifically on acoustic genres, but I am happiest making electronic music, and singing is just a little something I add in to give the track more flavor.

I believe I covered all of the questions you gave me. If I missed any let me know, and I will try to respond as soon as I can.

I normally think that, hoping to be famous and make real money from music is too far fetched and you shouldn't count on it. Also, the probability of someone stealiing from you and becoming famous or making money from that, are pretty non existing.

So, my thinking is, if someone uses something i have done, better for me, more exposure, it's like another artist giving you props.
So dont worry, let music flow free, let people use stuff :)

How are you going to gauge the response through the forum here, within a day or so this thread will disappear, will you then repeatedly bump this thread and if you do that it will be regarded as spamming, and people don't like that......I'm only bringing this up because the whole tenure of your original post is a little presumptive, by and large Looperman is not a promotional vehicle it's a free audio resource community, sure heaps of people hook up musically and get all sorts of encouragement and inspiration from this place, but touting for approval before you commit seems a little one sided, if you want some legitimate feedback try giving others the same, that's the only viable solution at Looperman.com

Release it. You have a unique voice. I love it. It needs to be heard. :D Actually the whole song is really good.

    To Darknives (nice username!),

In the not-so-distant past I have dealt with people who have incorrectly used my acapella. They did not profit in a monetary sense, but the mere fact that they used something that wasn't theirs and passed it off as their own original work doesn't sit well with me, and I am certain that you can relate to this.

    To Planetjazzbass,

For the most part, you are correct when you say it is rather easy for a thread to slip away from the forums within a day, and if this one did, then I would have the information I need. A lack of enthusiasm for my acapella would cause the thread to disappear quickly, and my question would be answered. I am well aware that trying to bump my thread to the top of the page is spamming, which is why I had no intention on doing so, and I made no allusion to it in any of my posts on this thread.

I never intended to utilize Looperman as a "promotional vehicle," in a previous post I stated that I wanted to gauge the interest producers had towards my acapella. Looperman is primarily a source for free audio files, however, I prefer to think of it as a community, where everyone helps out everyone else and artists and producers can feel comfortable with conveying their ideas to one another. I am not asking for anyone's approval of my acapella, as that is something I can definitely go without. Fortunately, I am not cursed with the need for social acceptance. At the end of the day, I don't need to worry about whether or not people liked my acapella or not, because I had fun making it. That is what matters most to me.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "if you want some legitimate feedback try giving others the same." I have tried my hardest to remain an active member of this community, and I will frequently respond to posts in the forum and to loops requesting feedback. To me, feedback is more important than anything else when it comes to others hearing my music, because I cannot get better without it. If my music was terrible and no one told me, I would be left in a pretty bad predicament. If you believe that I could be an even more active member than I have already attempted to be, please let me know. I want to receive feedback myself, and you are correct when you say that you need to "give some to get some."

    To Maddie,

Thanks for the feedback! Because of what you have told me, I will make sure to use similar mixing techniques in future songs I make. This is the first song where I feel that the acapella finally is strong enough to stand apart from the backing track, and is able to finally be its own part in the song, instead of just an afterthought.

    TO THE GENERAL VIEWERS

Unfortunately, I have noticed a similar tone surrounding my post. I am actually a bit surprised with some of the feedback I am getting. Maybe my original post could have been worded differently, or perhaps I could have just kept this post to myself. Unlike in any other thread I have made, I have felt the need to defend my ideas and way of thinking, and that is not something that I thought I would need to do on this website. I have only been met with great attitudes and constructive feedback in the past, so I am a little shocked that this thread has turned into what it now is. However, I am not pulling out the victim card here. I posted to the forums so I am completely aware that anything can happen. I am simply stating that this is an abnormal occurrence, and to any new Looperman users who may read this, please be aware that this is not how most of the site is. This is an outstanding place for musicians, artists and producers, and I am not sure of where I would be without this site.

Furthermore, I don't want anyone thinking that I am upset with ANY of the users who have posted their thoughts here. They are completely entitled to whatever they believe, and I respect every opinion they have. I would like to personally thank them for helping me to become a better producer.

I say go for it, you'll defo get people wanting to use it. I had a pella up on the loop and it used to make my day when someone sent me a link through to a track that they had done with it.

    To WoundedBuffaloBeats,

Thanks for the feedback! I have released acapellas in the past, and I completely agree with you. The feeling of hearing someone else's interpretation of your song is always a special experience!
