Thought it would be interesting to hear what others might share. I feel sometimes there is a huge lack of emotion or soul in music nowadays sooooo what's the most emotional/deepest song you guys have heard? I'm a very deep person at heart so I guess I tend to favor deeper stuff sometimes...music therapy and what not. I'll start by something I've listened to recently and it instantly drew me in. It's my fav as of yesterday. Highly recommend this track and watching the series!

Lyrically: Seasons in the Sun (Terry Jacks)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd_Fdly3rX8
Guy is singing from the perspective of a dying vietnam soldier. Sad and profound and yet the music is sort of poppy and melancholic at the same time.
Visually: Johnny Cash "Hurt". makes me tear up everytime I see it.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt1Pwfnh5pc
And Musically. There are two songs that do it for me. One is "Song to the Siren", Tim Buckley. This Mortal coil does an even more emotional cover.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pxvXI1i9cwby.
    https://www.youtube.com/watchv=HFWKJ2FUiAQ&lc=z12nvpibjymuzdycr22nejtwbsaeeveak04
And of course Kate Bush with "This Womans Work"
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEHqPCA_lzQ
though there really are many many emotional songs out there and on any given day I might pick 3 or four different ones as well. Good topic.

So many thousands and thousands of worthy contenders in so many different styles!

Just for something different, I'm going to choose a very beautiful and badass Tool song called Jambi. Check out the unusual time signatures!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF0lVn3n12I

And here are the excellent lyrics to give you a clearer picture of the emotion involved:

    Jambi

Here from the king's mountain view
Here from a wild dream come true
Feast like a sultan I do
On treasures and flesh, never few.

But I, I would wish it all away.
If I thought I'd lose you just one day.

The devil and his had me down,
In love with the dark side I'd found.
Dabble in all the way down
Up to my neck soon to drown.

But you changed that all for me.
Lifted me up, turned me round.
    So I...
    I...
    I...
    I...
    I would
    I would
    I would
    Wish this all away

Prayed like a martyr dusk to dawn.
Begged like a hooker all night long.
Tempted the devil with my song.
And got what I wanted all along.

    But I,
    And I would,
    If I could,
    And I would
    Wish it away,
    Wish it away,
    Wish it all away,
    Wanna wish it all away,
No prize that could hold sway,
    Or justify my giving away,
    My center.

So if I could I'd wish it all away.
If I thought tomorrow would take you away.
You're my peace of mind, my home, my center.
I'm just trying to hold on,
    One more day.

    Dim my eyes...
    Dim my eyes...

    Dim my eyes
    If they should compromise
    Our fulcrum
Wants and needs divide me then I might as well be gone.

    Shine on forever.
    Shine on benevolent sun.

    Shine on upon the broken.
Shine until the two become one.

    Shine on forever.
    Shine on benevolent sun.

    Shine on upon the severed.
Shine until the two become one.

    Divided I'm withering away.

    Divided I'm withering away.

Shine on upon the many, light our way
    Benevolent sun.

    Breathe in union.
    Breathe in union.
    Breathe in union.
    Breathe in union.
    Breathe in union.
    So as one survive.
    Another day and season.

    Silence, legion, save your poison
Silence, legion, stay out of my way.

Surely the genre known as 'emo' wins this thread, doesn't it?

Every song is, apparently, very emotional.

Kraftwerk perhaps win the 'unemotional' genre contest.

    Evisma : Mon 9th Nov 2015 : 4 years ago

"the genre known as 'emo' wins this thread"

Emo is the whining of soft, bitter boys. It deserves nothing.

When it comes to "emotional", Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata deserve mention. They need no narration.

  21. 588276
    StaticNomad : Mon 9th Nov 2015 : 4 years ago

Evisma: you've probably already guessed that I don't listen to pretty much anything from the genre known as 'emo'. I was almost having a bit of a laugh with this:

"Every song is, apparently, very emotional."

I guess I just got thinking harder about what 'emotional music' is. I suppose every piece conveys some sort of emotion and everyone reacts in different ways. There have been a few songs posted already here that I absolutely would not call "deep" - more like light pop music.

Your Deftones choice is a good one. I saw them live at the Glastonbury festival in 1997 but that was before I got into them.

Maybe their genre of music is 'emotiomet' ie emotional metal.

'Emotiomet' sounds a bit Japanese to me.
