Posted in : Forum : How To Guides
In this area Ill try and post a collection of guides on how to use various aspects of the site. If your new to the site or unsure of anything then its always worth having a browse through these posts first.
This thread relates to this forum section
Members Tunes For Remix
Please read this guide on how to post in this forum. In order to stop the track remix forum being full of useless posts we decided to come up with a set of guidelines that you need to stick to when making a track available for remix.
Firstly and most importantly you must only post tracks for remix that you have made yourself. Dont post commercial tracks or tracks containing samples and loops that you dont have permission to use. The same rules apply here for posting tracks, loops and acapellas in other areas of looperman.
If this section works out well Ill integrate it more fully into the site rather then it just being a section in the forums.
The idea here is that its a bit of fun and a way to give other members the opportunity to put their twist on your creations. If you are overly precious of your tracks and not fully happy with people doing what they will with your tracks dont post them here.
How To Share Your Mix Files
1 - Organise Your Source Files
Youll need to organise your files (loops / midi / source files etc) ready for other users to download. the more care you take over doing this the better chance of getting people to come up with the goods. It could be that you chop all the relevant sections up into loops, export your project direct from your DAW so others can import into theirs or simply upload a copy of all your source files. Again though the simpler it is for others to work with your track the better results youll get back.
2 - Upload Your Files
Once you have your source material sorted youll need to upload your files ready for others to download. We decide to stick to a single online file host in order to keep things simple and members chose http://www.mediafire.com/.
If you dont already have an account there sign up for free and upload your files into a project folder named as follows
You should now be able to create a link to your project source files on mediafire.com ready for everyone to download. Once you have that youre ready to make your announcement in the Members Tracks Remix forum.
3 - Upload Your Original Track / Mix
If you havent already done so upload a copy of your original track to the tracks section of your profile here on looperman.com. you should also post a link to your forum thread where you are telling everyone about the remix files (see below) after the description of your track
4 - Announce Your Remix In The Forums
Now that you've organised your source files, uploaded them to a special folder on mediafire.com and created a link ready for other members to download and uploaded your original track to looperman you can post your announcement thread.
The thread MUST be written in the following format otherwise it might be deleted.
Forum Title : Remix Track Name by Your Name
Forum Message :
> Introduce your track by saying a little something about it.
> State the name of your original track
> Post a link to your original tracks detail page. Eg https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/3
> Post the link to the source files that you uploaded to mediafire.com and an approximate size of the download
> Post some more detailed information on whats included in the source files that you uploaded to mediafire.
For example if you exported the files as a package from your DAW then everyone will need to know what software you used so that they dont download stuff they cant use.
You should say what type of files you have included. wavs, loops, midi, rex files, single loops or complete channels, did you include your original project file that people can open in their DAW?
Basically the more info you give people here the better.
How To Share Your Remixes
Upload Your Remixes To Looperman
If you downloaded a remix pack and then created a track then lets hear about it. Upload it to your profile and give it a name as follows so that its easy for everyone to find.
Original Track Name by Original Artists Your Remix Name
for example. I downloaded the files for a track called funky drummer by djzee, did a trippy remix and so named it
Funky Drummer by DJZee Looperman Space Mix
You get the idea. The point is if you do that its simple to do a search and find all the remixes done of a track.
Post Links To Your Remix
Post a link to your track in the thread where you found out about the download pack so that everyone else can go take a listen to what you did with the source files.
You should also go and find the original track (the original artists should have posted a link to it in the announcement thread) and post a message there saying that you remixed it along with a link to your track.
Any Thoughts ?
The idea of a remix forum started life here in this thread https://www.looperman.com/forum/thread/170445 (now locked) and is like everything else around here very much a work in progress type thing.
If you have any ideas on how things could be improved then join the conversation here https://www.looperman.com/forum/thread/171407 and we'll refine things as we go along.
awesome...this is gonna be fun..
Sounds like a great plan!
Instructions are easy to understand and follow...so let the remixing begin :)
