Description
Dancing the Dreamtime: sonic banishment in 3 movements. Remastered in Live 7 LE with lots of eq and other work. The third totem in the series. Want to give a nod to loopytunes, Dj4Real, and Donnie_Vyros for this one. This was my attempt of the Slap Johnson 10 minute challenge.

optym Beautiful arrangement, you can def feel that "live" element. It's like floating in to a crystal cave; Shafts of light break in to random prisms, water dripping from somewhere in the distance and a gentle myst rising from the floor. I'm totally in awe from listening to this. I hope one day my ambient/down beat tracks can come close to this beautiful illustration you have presented before us.

Wow. This is like poetry, and perhaps the single coolest review I've ever received. Promise not to laugh too hard? - I actually almost didn't upload the original draft of this, because I wasn't sure if I liked it or not! It's the nature of creativity, perhaps...kind of like taking a beautiful crystal and and revealing its most beautiful form by faceting it, or finding the form in a piece of marble and turning it into a sculpture. Having listened to a few of your tracks now, rest assured you'll achieve and even surpass this one! Really. Cheers.

I'm finding my experience as a performing musician and dabbling with analog recordings is translating pretty well into this medium. "Dancing in the Dreamtime" is one of those inspired moments that translated really well into a recording. I'm still feeling really good about this one. Glad you enjoyed the "sonic banishment in 3 movements."

DanielMathers A very well thought out and clever mix. Its gonna be up there in the Ambient section of the All Genre Competion and certainly gets my vote !

Isn't this comp great? I've discovered your music and you've discovered mine! I'm truly blown away by how much really GOOD music has been posted, and if it's not revitalizing the site, it sure is revitalizing my interest in the music here. Really looking forward to checking out more of your work - Thanks for the review and encouragement here!

AD9 Cool ambient track. I like the waving synths, and the staccato little synth stabs. It feels like something traveling through a tunnel of sound.

n0mad23's Reply
Thanks for the listen and review, AD9. Hopefully I've made it as "ambient" as your own! I love how this one came together, and it's too bad I didn't quite make the "10 minute challenge," but I'm quite pleased with how it sounds and its reception. Cheers.

mhyst Awesome stuff here, so much going on, must have taken so much work, you are a real artist.

n0mad23's Reply
Thanks for the listen and review. Oddly no, this really wasn't a whole lot of work as it was my response to Slap Johnson's 10 minute challenge. Laying it out and editing it initially took a little less than 1/2 hour. However, going back and remastering it took quite a bit more time! I was jacked right into The Source of inspiration for this one. Maybe that's what an artist is - someone who can tune into the right Cosmic frequencies for inspiration. Funny enough, this was my musical reaction to my own "Awakening" remix attempt. You can't imagine how blocked that remix left me. Glad you enjoyed.

JHolmes I was rocking out to this for a solid 4 minutes before I realized it was playing. Solid groove.

Also, the high pads at ~5:00 are awesome.

n0mad23's Reply
Thanks for the fav on this! This is such a strange piece and I more and more feel like I tuned the creative radio just right to pull this one from the aether. Donnie_Vyros' bass loops in conjunction with loopytunes reggae drum beat (the other drum loop isn't so evident) really make it all possible. I guess I got lucky and the saffron was fresh and the best possible when I gathered the ingredients. Cheers.

Spivkurl Wow, I don't know how I missed this one! I really enjoy the tribal feel to these drums. The whole mix is a bit creepy, in a good way of course. This song is extremely effective, and it shows in how many faves you've gotten. I'll have to add myself to that list. Great work on this one! Bummer I can't DL it though.

n0mad23's Reply
Maybe it's one that's only revealed when it's time? It is a "sonic banishment in 3 movements" and not a party piece. Glad you enjoyed it.

WOW, when I make loops I don't really ever think beyond the short term (though there is some rough idea). And I think you did a really good job capturing that vague blueprint that was in my head when I made those bass loops. Kinda like, dark atmospheric tribal abstract, ya know? Kinda dig how ya warp this with the smooth alien synth pad-lead stuff. As if to ask, what would a rusty swingset sound like in space?
And I agree with some of the comments (skimmed over em) this could be used in a few ways. I think this would make for an excellent score for the intro to something like an anime or sci-fi horror film. A good name for the movie, hmm- Screams of the Deep? With bold white text over a dark screen that would dissolve off in a liquidy fashion. Too bad I can't D/L this (sad face). Oh well, I can still favorite it. Thanks for sharing mate. Later on!

blackryan Hey n0mad the drones are good but the percussion is great. The variations almost give it a played live feel. Really nice work. I think you may have imbibed too much?

n0mad23's Reply
Nonsense, if I'm still standing, it's not too much! The live "feel" is a genuine one, and this was recorded "live" with twisting knobs and sliding effect levels as it was recorded into a wav file. I was definitely jacked into the right vib for this one, and it still is one of my personal favs. Glad you enjoyed it, too!

CalifKen Ah it's been awhile since i've heard something like this, and this is even better. Love it. It's got sort of a futuristic twist on the vibe - awesome work man. Plus it's not often that I see so many favs and replays on a track - excellent work friend!! Nice to hear ya.

n0mad23's Reply
Thanks for the encouragement and the fave, my southern Leftcoast brother! I was recently told that my music's evolving in 2 simultaneous directions and I think your "futuristic twist on the vibe" validates this. I'm thinking the favs and replays are a good sign, too! I'm thinking I was tuned in to the right vibes when this one channeled through. Cheers.

AnomalyJ This is like melodic perfection to my ears, it transcends and entrances...there's an aire of subtle seduction in the rhythm...that forces you under it's power...it's funny there is a story in the Bible...tragic...about a girl who danced so well the king said he would give her what ever she wanted and though it was a wicked request that ended in the death of John the Baptist, i often wondered what type of music could she have danced to that got that man so entranced and stupefied that he left his common sense and offer her anything up to half of his kingdom...such a foolish vow...it could have been the wine...but I often wonder about the music.

n0mad23's Reply
I love you hear an "aire of gentle seduction in the rhythm," as this approach is a gracious one (imho). I think it's a "trance" piece without being trance music. I never considered Salome behind this track, but the image is a provocative one. One of the n0mad23 tricks is I never press the record button unless my hips are gyrating. Thanks for the listen and lovely review!

On a SERIOUS note - this track just gets better with listening - great remix.

n0mad23's Reply
JFW knows the lingo! Yeah, I guess it's time to explicate the "frog" totem invoked in the "Hippo" piece. A few years ago there was an entheogenic conference up in Whistler, BC and psilocybin was brought up. One of the organizers called on the Hiada and Kwakiutl elders at the conference and asked why the native Pacific Northwesterners didn't use the mushroom as a tool. The response: "Yeah, we've always known about the mushroom. It's just that it's the domain of Frog, and everybody knows that Frog the Trickster is a pathological liar. You can't trust anything from the realm of Frog." Two personal totems are at work here - the Terror invoked by Hippo and the uncertainty emphasized by Frog. Glad you dig it! Hope my little explanation makes it even more enjoyable!

koble Nice Nomad! (I feel I must Sterilize!...Sterlize!..Sterlize!.. lol, sorry...reference to Captain Kirk) Good Ambient... but with a slight edge. Exotic. Not what I would call mellow but I like ambient tracks with a twist. This is Cinematic in nature and could be used as background track in some sort of space epic. I can imagine it in Battlestar Galatica in some of those scenes with the Cylon Baseships. Dreamy... but with a slightly sinister edge. Really good!

n0mad23's Reply
Yeah I can see this as "cinematic" and I can also see a crowd in a darkened club writhing in slow motion behind this one. I think because of my visual nature (even sonically) I've always had a tendency to do stuff that's inherently cinematic, but hopefully I'm blurring the boundaries a bit in the process as well. I'm really glad you liked your listen. Cheers and thanks for the encouragement!

The act of faving it speaks volumes Simon! I'm honored and flattered. My inspiration, but motivated by others that inspire me here - great loops coupled with SLAPJOHNSON's sonic colonic challenge. jfw Hi Nomad, stumbled upon this in the featured tracks section and gave it a whirl. Nice mix and swirling ambience to this.
I think the aboriginal vibe comes through even if we did't have the clue in the title. Great to see people out there who use more esoteric instrumentation. Great work.

n0mad23's Reply
Yes I do love drones. Actually fell into musical performance by teaching myself to play the didgeridoo, so it's no surprise that I'd go for this kind of sound with this digital media. The drone here was created with a bass loop done by Donnie_Vyros that I put in two channels and then played with 3 octaves separating them. It really is amazing being able to manipulate sound like this into entirely new contexts. Glad you enjoyed it!

A track faved by MrE is a compliment indeed! I vacillate about whether I like the end or not, but it's got a real groove happening. Nice, moody, and slow with lots of audio trippiness floating below.
