# Ive been noticing how many tracks including my own that get pushed further down the rabbit hole and are never heard. I myself review enough to have them featured but this still doesnt help them from being push and pushed furthure down the list.

Maybe something could be done about this.. we have 221503 members and its possible that each week 1107515 tracks will be uploaded.

theres has to be a better way besides the top right corner feature section. yea it helps people get reviews in and out but theres so much music on this site that goes un-noticed.

I think getting rid of the tracks section and just making the genre section available where people have to select the genre they are interested in no matter what. or use a top 100's chart..if you make it to the 100's top chart atleast you wont be in the 27263's chart!

# but then its not fair on the other 27163 users who aint in the top 100...those wiv reviews wil get loads of reviews and those without wil get none....the tory party do something similar in england...they call it keeping the rich-rich...and the poor-poorer......

# I don't know what the answer is, but you upload a track and it lands on page one, half an hour later it's on page 7 to be consigned to the ether never to be seen again!

# To be honest i kinda agree with this forum post,

I for one like the "help thy fellow man" attidude on looperman and imbrace it fully, but im also sensible enough to realise that holding onto the overly friendly attitude that a lot of people have will only choke the site and stop alot of people getting the attention they deserve for there music..
You cant really hold back people that need/deserve/want to be heard just because you may offend some people, there's nearly quarter of a million of us and course somethings gonna get up someones nose at some point..

There are 221510 members on this site... you are not a small community but unfortunately the layout does seem to sometimes have small community in mind...

In other words for the featured box in the corner to be used as it is ment i would need to refresh or visit the site 27 thousand 2 hundred and 65 times even if only half the tracks are featured its still over 13 thousand refresh's lol...
In basic terms the site is so popular, loop's is doin such a good job, that a few more avenues are needed to make sure people are heard

Do you kinda get what im saying peeps?

I do love looperman its really made a big impact on my music making, and im always on it looking at tracks, the community is superb..
but it kinda does need to be addressed if not now definately at some point..

# I don't even look at the new tracks anymore, I go straight to the genre I want to check out.

# on the tracks page if u click the genre box u can filter tracks away....we never gonna or want people to stop uploading tracks here jus so other people can be heard...active people get reviews more than those who arnet...there is loads of ways to hear good new music on here, the featured box is a good feature and very fair i think...u can check out competition tracks for undiscovered artists and also reviewing and commenting in forums wil get u notised...plus many more ways...
i dont see the featured box as a problem....

mayb tho if we were only allowed to feature 1 track that would help a little tho...

# I think the numbers mentioned in this thread are very misleading.

For example, there may be over 200,000 registered users but a very small percentage of those are active. In fact every now and again I remove 50,000 users who have not been done anything apart from sign up to download loops. I may do this again soon for no other reason but to clear out some no longer used user names and to reduce the size of the users table in the database.

On average there are less then 100 tracks uploaded each day

The featured box only chooses one track per person and rotates those tracks through the featured window. At the moment that makes 158 tracks / users

http://www.looperman.com/tracks.php?ft=Y

that link shows you who is currently being featured and its updated each hour.

The tracks page is a simple list but if you use the search and adjust the genre etc your obviously more likely to find stuff you might be interested in.

One thing Ive had in mind for a while though is to reduce the number of tracks you can upload to one each day and a maximum of five per week.

Until the site is rebuilt though there wont be any other fancy ways of listing things or ways to find out whos uploaded what etc.

I personally think being able to become a fan of someone and then be able to see when your fav artists have uploaded would be cool. On top of that to have something along the lines of "people who listened to this track also liked these". Something that is used on many shopping sites and would work well here.

Dont be blinded by numbers though

# I have an idea i dunno if its useful though, Cos theres afew tracks by a fair few artists perhaps a different kind of featured track layout where there is automation on afew tracks being featured on the home page of different genres, but not just latest tracks, and also perhaps when people desribe their tracks they could use key words so say for example someone wants to hear 'heavy dubstep bass' the tracks that have these key words in can be listed, maybe like a 'what sounds do you wanna listen to?' kinda search bar maybe i dunno its just an idea.

# @Shan - I can't find the thread but if memory serves, featured tracks require actually reviewing others' tracks within 72 hours, no? It seems to me this cuts down on the number of featured tracks at any given moment, too.

I really like the idea of incorporating a "Fans" tab or something, especially if this included something like "suggestions" as well. Maybe, "people who like 'X' also listen to "N", "L", and "T". I do this already by looking at who favorites tracks that I do.

I do wish there was some way to thwart reuploading tracks just to keep them on the New Tracks page. I'm not sure how this could be done as I'd hate to see a song that's been remastered (and having exactly the same file size as the previous version) rejected because it looks like it's exactly the same as what it's replacing. I often scroll through the first 2 pages of the Tracks page and am amazed at how quickly new or updated songs disappear.

This is especially apparent for me in this All Genre Competition - there's an amazing amount of music that had slipped by me until 'discovering' these songs in this manner. Certainly a personal "Fans of" and "Suggestions" section would solve this problem.

This remains the greatest musical resource site on the web, and I'd like to say thanks personally for this, Shan.

# If there is anybody on this site that listens to the 100 tracks that get uploaded daily, I'd like to hear their opinion on this. IMO, the current setup is flawless. And this is with years of experience developing and using websites just like this.

Bottom line is there are too many tracks uploaded daily for any one person to listen to. The comp brings everyone's best track to the top for that genre, which is a really effective and time saving filter. I mean unless you actually do have time to listen to all the tracks.

But I don't see how the fair and easy to use featured system and the narrowing down of tracks by genre can be described as not providing everything a member needs to find tracks that are new and are in a genre that suits them.

I picture like everyone that is online at a given time is in a way taking their shift of doing reviews and then they sign off, and hopefully they receive reviews from the next shift of looperman b/c they - 1 - give meaningful detailed reviews that are useful AND 2 - are willing to review at least twice as many tracks as they are hoping to get reviews for.

If your tracks still don't get reviewed, look at your avatar, username, track descrips - there's something that is not grabbing member attention when they go to that master list of new tracks and scan it.

Keep trying - keep reviewing - review EVERY TRACK YOU LISTEN TO - say how you would make it better. Every opinion is equal b/c music is completely subjective.

You think the tracks that came between all these hot competition tracks were as good? They aren't better, or they would have been in the comp.

I hope I'm not sounding rude or sh'ty about this. I just feel reluctant at this stage of the game to mess with the machine here, b/c nowhere else is this kind of thing going on this way. This site is THE REASON my music has gotten better. Over the past 6 months, I have grown more musically than in the entire 10 years previous to joining this site.

Not to sound cliche, but if it worked for me, it can work for you.

# @Blunt_Ted - completely agree. I've never had any problem with this site, both for load and for quality of code and layout and such. Flawless!!

# And just to reiterate my point, this site is about connections between people and their songs. Give someone a review so on topic, useful, to the point, creative and or heartfelt that it compels them to do the same for you.

It is all already in your power to make happen. Site changes and added featured boxes are not going to change anything for the better.

# my two pints:

I love this freaking site... Shan is a good man for keeping this thing thriving, and I believe the people on this site are a special bread of musicians and producers...

We are the amateur of the amateurs, and we got more heart and community than ANY site.. AND I MEAN EVERY SITE...

Soo

I really feel the whole SITE needs a new layout.. I have voiced my opinions more than once, but I understand.. This is a ONE man operation running this thing.... that's pretty epic..

Regardless.. I think the forums need a lot of love, this is probably the only forum in the net i can think of that you can't edit or add smiles or whatever.. minus this smile :)

sooh....
with the tracks.. I really feel that's not the purpose of this site, but a nice feature. It's not the reason we are here.
this is a free loops and acapellas depository. lol
it's also a school.. at least in my opinion..

You know? like if you hear something in a track, and you are like omg, that's AWESOME! I ask ... "How did you do this man!??"
i make some cool contacts doing that..

Regardless.. I kinda agree, and disagree...
but I don't know if Shan even has enough time to code a new layout for the review things..
I would like to see this site as a huge profitable operation as much as the next guy... MUSIC!! ahh I love music.

(PS, howya been Jeremy?)

# Here we go again..(I just might add my comments are directed towards the issue here)..CalifKen has hit the nail on the head and put things in a good perspective..This place isn't about getting noticed (though it's a social dynamic that is always in play)..People don't need to be heard or deserve to be heard beyond the impetuous of their own creative efforts (and this is dismissive of the behaviour of continually re-uploading one's tracks)....if you want recognition get a Public Relations company to churn out the spin for you..in this place it requires spreading yourself around and doing the review game or it used to be..I might just add here that this is the currency that people seem to crave..Ok here's an example...Spivkurl has been doing a fantastic job reviewing posting 1163 reviews to date...he's received a measly 358 in return....draw your own conclusions...in the end it's a resource site not a top 100 chart.
