Replycan i fix jittery playback on ableton?
 |
I have just baught a macbook 13 with 4Gb of ram, I also baught a midi controller that came with a light version of ableton called live lite 4 behringer edition. When I played back the demo song on after installing the playback became jittery at a larger section of the track (not overly complex though imo). The computer is new and contains no other software and nothing else was running at the time. This shouldn't be happening I think and I know there is someway of fixing it I just don't know how. I've been told that macs are really good for music playback but i'm just not hearing it :(
PLEASE help me looperfolk |

Do I need an external sound card to run this program?
this is REALLY dissapointing |

hey man, have you tried .. FREEZING tracks?
it's like.. abletones complex way of saying "bounce-down" track.
you can then dupe an audio or midi track, and drop it, so you can cut and paste to your hearts desire or just consilidate.
you may try that too! consolodating tracks in general really cut down CPU and memory processes as you can delete uneeded vst's or synths.
just a thought.
also, make sure your drivers are up to date. glitches/trips in music are usually a couple serious things
mixing on stupid points in the waveform
too many processes
clipping
memory issues
hard drive issues (run chkdsk)
virus or just bad storage or in worse case trojans (try ccleaner)
and a free antivirus.
another thought to finish this off.
antivirus uses a lot of memory, so in mixing, ESPECIALLY hardcore mixing which I always try and do, try and free up AS MUCH memory.
press Ctrl+Alt+Delete
and check out what you are really running live time and your CPU in general.
shrug.
Behringher has only given me headaches in the past. I like akai more. Motu. M-audio. |

err
just really thought about it...
you have a mac...
and 4 gbs.
check your drivers for behringer, they probably updated them even after your purchase.
patches and updates are a regular headache with virtual material.
i would start there.
if anything your memory or drivers are bad in my opinion.
hope that helps |

Hiya dude..
The song should be playing fine.. I got a macbook last year, ran everything good as gold (while it worked anyways lol).
Its either snow leopard and it need some updates.
The Ableton needs updateing as its version 4 and may not run properly on Intel powered macs (most likely problem)
Or your hard drive is about to break which to be honest accounted for 2 of the 4 times i had to take my mac back in 4 month's... |

Man, ARE YOU guys SERIOUS?? I've only bought the mac like a week ago from a mac retailer. I literally just took it out the box and loaded ableton onto it |

I agree..it's a brand new computer..it's obviously something to do with Ableton.(bit difficult trying to diagnose something like this third hand)..forget the sample song for the moment...what I would do is reread the installation and setup instructions again..then get a loop from somewhere and drag it into an audio slot in session view and see what happens..remember you need to go into 'preferences' and make sure you've chosen the right system playback components..since your using the Mac's internal sound card this may effect the latency to some degree. |

Yeah but dude uv installed an ableton from 5 years ago that was ment for a different cpu platform....
Suprised it installed at all to be honest as it come out when the mac's were G3's..
The mac i had last year could run 20+ audio tracks 5-10 midi tracks all with effects without any hicups...
My advise would be to
1) uninstall Ableton 4 Lite...
2) Download Ableton 8 Demo from the Ableton website (its only about 400meg)...
3) Install Ableton 8 demo...
You'll probly find it'll run like a dream......
Oh and set you latency to about 10/12 milliseconds in & 10/12 milliseconds out so roughly about 20/25 milliseconds all together.
Spuds:) |

Yeah it was the fact that the program was too old for the cpu. I'm not going to run the 8 demo cos it has saving disabled, but I am going to look for upgrades right now. Thanks for all the help |

Hey just a thought can I download the demo version then download the Live 8 update and have the full version of Live 8? or even just keep my Live 4 Lite and download the version 8 update and have the full version? I know someone is going to tell me I'm dreaming, but it just seems thats the way it may work from what I have read on the ableton website |
