Yepp, Vanguard is great.
I'd also recommend checking out Refx Nexus as well.
And Omnisphere looks amazing, but i don't have the cash or hard-drive space for it.heh.

I have read a lot on Nexus , which I have and Omnisphere which I don have. Now...I personally think that to make a classic trance song, all you need is quality sounding synths and pads etc....Omnisphere does sound like many more variations of sounds can be made with it..However, when I use nexus I always personalize it to my own song, and of course the way the song is mixed has a big impact on its quality..Just listen to the synth on the intro to Suburban train...then the sound quality on the bassline!! Awsome...No fancy algorithms wave patches added on there I'll bet.....I would personally say that NEXUS is the king of trance!!

Vanguard is great, but my personal favorite for making trance is by far Sylenth1. It is absolutely incredible. However, any synth can sound as good as the next to be honest, so long as you know how to use it. |

I agree with SoundsOfEscape, Sylenth1 is a killer, sadly I missed the group-buy. I use vanguard all the time, it's a beast. Nexus is downright cheesy. You could check out some NI/Arturia stuff too. |

I do not make Trance but I do have Sylenth1 and it has loads of Trance presets and that is just in the factory banks.
There is also a few house soundbanks avail for it.
It is a great sounding synth.

If you cant afford fancy vsts. you'll be surprised at what sounds you can come up with by jus tweaking tuning and oscillating the synths you have already and by adding affects. Thats how we do it in the prehistoric ages lol =D Its fun! |

I don't get what goodtunez wrote...If you didn't already use FX you should go back to prehistory... without FX even the best vsti are BS, i will exclude few with built-in FX, plugins like sylenth1 but still.. |

I just recently invested in NI Absynth and it's great for any kinda genre (trance/dance to hip-hop/classical). Going to order the Kore 2 in a few weeks.

get you hands on a copy of z3ta+
its a MASSIVELY powerful synth, and i can't believe nobody's mentioned it!
also, if you want your tracks to sound huge, you need to layer your sounds up. using different synths to play the same part helps too.
this is my general set-up for leads:
1 x nexus, 1 x z3ta, 1 x gladiator, 1x sw trance-pro and 1 x genesis all playing your lead melody (over a couple of octaves). then turn off all your delays/reverbs/etc, run all these synths into a group bus and use fx on them all together. saves processing power and adds clarity to the mix.

i have heard it's stuff, totally worthy mix for any type of music...
i like absynth. lol.. i don't use synths much .... absynth is great fun... I can morph things to my liking easily with absynth.
But i don't make "trance"... i make "alividlife music"
what is that one synth that makes a million sounds into one over a time setting...????
