Cheers Slap... |

@Boson...lucky your not in a Barber Shop Quartet!...bwahaha..Boson really is the King of Abelton...long live the King and Abelton....:) |
|
 |
lol thanks guys :)
by the way check this out
http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=9lOzMWGBOH4
its prolly the greatest feature of live 7
and i just learned something from it too
pay special attention to the end of the video.
you can drag a frozen midi clip to an audio track and it will turn it into an audio clip
(freezing creates a rendered audio file to play in place of the midi file so it makes sense that you can just drop it into an audio track... assume!!! a nice time saver!) |

Hi PDR
I am also a 100% Abelton user, but not as experienced as some of the other users, but we all find our own little tips and tricks here and there its a great program and theres a lot to learn within it.

Dam that was a helpfull video.. do you guys master your final product on ableton.. i was reading around and some people say ableton rendered files arent as clean as they should be.. what do you guys think. |

Hey!!!
79.44462% User Here!!
I love ableton, it's the video game that makes music to me!
I like making beats with ableton, but i usually have to be very inspired, as i am really picky.
@PDR, yah i have heard that,... but i hear that about all DAW's... I tried a bunch of DAWs and ableton was the one for me.
The way it can change it's ability reading wav's from beat, to timing, to complex wave structures ... sold me!!! Plus as a musician, it makes it really easy to punch in recorded tracks.
The only three that I have heard that have great sound is soundforge, cubase, and protools...... To each their own..
How do you guys manage your workflow? I just noticed the "save all to file"... does that move my loops? or does it make copies?
lol....
I should just try it and see what happens...
@bosson THANKS FOR THE VID!!!
I have sliced before, on A LOT OF my songs... HOLY CRAP, i didn't know they each could have an effect or be made into an audio file?!!
Man, i am gonna have to watch all these videos.... |
|
 |
When I master I'm still in Ableton,though I don't use it's mastering tools...I use plug-in's like Izotope Ozone..URS Console Strip Pro..etc...and I get a finished track I'm really happy with...cheers |
|
 |
are this plugins for free?? and also if i had a option to choose from protools to plugins for mastering what would be the best option quality wise? |
|
 |
Ozone will run you 250 bucks
or 3 dollars euro respectively.
or...
PSP Vintage Warmer (only heard about)
but you might need all it's other vst's like masterQ, MasterComp...ect
All are like 150 bucks
or 2 euros... heheheh.. i don't know..
umm.. you CAN do great mastering with ableton, it is great software... I ultimately chosed it over FLstudio, Acid, and Cubase (all demos but still...)
When you render your wave's try both using the normalization and without... try a lot of things, and if we can't help you...
soundvisionz can. lol |
|
 |
Ohh i would also like to add...
that YOU can take your demos to a studio or mastering studio and have them mastered.
Randy does this, and his mixes sound great.
He told me always to leave the peak decibel point at -4.5 so you give the sound engineer a smile and an easy job.
and hopefully it will only cost you 20 bucks or whatever...
just make sure you don't take a DnB track to a country music master place... you know.. duhhhh stuff...
Ohhhh
Btw, internet was down... I went shuffling through my hard drives deleating old files
I CLEARED 90 GIGS of temp, demos, and junk... Sweeeeeet.
Most were temp files from ableton, and audition messing with each other. |

alright what is the best soundcard controler i can get for ableton, is there anyway to use ableton without using the mouse at all with a nice controller some how. that would be my dream |
|
 |
wow alot more people use abelton than i expected
|
|
 |
@PDR
best is all subjective.
as far as a sound card/audio interface what are your needs?
do you need to get audio into the computer or just out?
do you want multiple audio outs or just stereo?
whats your budget?
i have a presonus firestudio for stage and a motu pci 424 for home.
cool thing is i can use a adat cable and connect the presonus to the motu for 16 track simultaneous recording.
on stage i route keys, vocals, bass, and everything else on their own channels to the front of the house and to my monitor/bass amp.
that works best for me.. for you it may be different.
as far as midi controllers
on stage i never touch the mouse/keyboard.
i have a combination of foot controls, mpd24, mpd32 and some drum pads.
i just got the mpd32 and foot controller so i'm transitioning over to my new set up.
up until now i used the mpd24, 2 foot switches, 1 expression pedal.. plus my singer has a foot controller.
we never touch the computer on stage.. i have the screen over to my side and i glance at it as we perform.
i can almost turn the screen off but i still need to look at it to see where i'm at in the set.
i totally dig the MPD32 and i highly recommend it as a main controller.. but its all preference.
you could us anything and get away from the mouse.
its all in how you midi map your set.

Mon I mon Ableton King n I survive!
I've had Live for 3 yrs and have used it exclusively ever since. The creative capablities are endless. It's midi handling is amazing and it's built in instruments and clips give the beginner enough to play with for days.
IMHO! Best sample based built in synth
Best midi routing and mapping ever
best preset instrumet panel EVER
Accepts any VSTi you point at it
Has built in maps pre set for a wide variety of surface controllers
IMHO best best best
K, here's a jah know exclusive trick and tip: Creating break beats in Live using the launch function.
- set 4 clips up in one channel each clip being a slight variation of the other
- In the clip launch section use off # variations to tell Live when and where to insert a new clip.
- This can be done completely randomly or with just a certain amount of probability. Choose Any, other, first, last, previous... etc. in order to create elaborate lines or simple rhythmic variation
- By setting various quantize functions for various clips, Live will 'force' break beat style randomness into any groove.
- Learn the power of routing. Send individual sounds from your impulse kit to a channel set with a delay, reverb or even a beat repeater. It'll turn a simple drum pattern into a synchopated jungle sound.
_ Never a bad Idea to double up channels too. This can make a huge difference in the end effect. Instead of over boosting the kit, double it up (maybe even with a second sound set) ;)
I have many creation tips to divuldge, but time is limited. Lemme know what you wanna know... you know? |
|
 |
more tips people more tips plz i just got this program (for free) hehe and some suggestions would be awesome |
|
 |
Learn how to map sounds across channels to create 'big' kits. TRiplets on hi hats, reverbs on snares, shift pitching just certain hits etc... it makes most fun.
Also look into slicing loops into midi clips. There are a variety of built in 'instruments' capable of turning a simple sample into an entire orchestra od sounds and beats.
Also, NI Massive! the only synth you'll ever need. |
|
 |
I have tried all the other software and used Acid for a few years, but I have been working exlusively in Ableton Live for a while now. Its workflow is great for creativity once you get your head around Lives way of doing things. It is a little tough at first especially if your used to another sequencer but its well worth the effort. You can get some free Live packs with instruments for Simpler at TogeoStudios.com |

FL Forever!!! Oh..sorry...couldn't help myself!!! LOL!!! |

lol...
Nice djsalkizar..
OK.
I Have demo-ed EVERYTHING!
EVERYTHING except Protools and Nuendo.
And Ableton hands FL's ass to it. ALTHOUGH!!!! FL IS FANTASTIC!
I mean, it's one thing to bicker on my wee-hee is bigger than your wee-hee..
But.. I would like to think... IS my track better than?
I have use FL.. DUDE, don't get me wrong! Seroksaty makes BRUTAL arrangements with FL. Xxyoung makes incredible trance with FL!
It don't matter. This topic will be beaten to death. Seriously. Is a fender better than a gibson???? WHO CARES. Is a rhodes better than a wurlitzer. WHO CARES.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!It's THE USER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ahem.. sorry djsalkizar. ABELTON FOR LIFE! just listen to my tracks.
==================
But to put something honest and worthwhile on this post.
I have been recording a lot in session time.
I use the record function, and bring up rerveb, and then in the mix-- drop the reverb, ESPECIALLY on Hi-hats. I have also done some of the midi slicing, but added the mastering effects, with some good results.
I want to know. How do you rewire this program effectively????
Any links??!?!? |
