Kikajon : Fri 10th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago Is there anybody else than me that feels that the interaction between loopers has decreased?

Ok, I'm into the rock genre and there are fewer uploads of new tracks than before, still there are, as far as I can see the same number of downloads on each track. But the comments on each track seems to be a lot fewer.

The interaction is to me the core of this site. I think that the previous system with points for interaction was effective, encouraging interaction between members.

Interacting lead to the birth of the Transatlantic Experience project, connecting me with incredibly talented musicians on the other side of the ocean – for that I'm really thankful. And some stuff has improved greatly on looper v2 – like sharing on facebook etc

I feel that Looperman has lost one of the most important things. I'm not the most active member, far from it, but I sort of miss the old version in that way.
How do you feel, do you agree?

ParkerMusic : Fri 10th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago I miss it too. :( For a newby like me, it was helpful to get a "legends" input on how to improve my music. I enjoyed corresponding with each one of my reviewers.

DonnieVyros : Fri 10th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago Yeah, I feel ya Kikajon. The place does seem a bit quieter these days. Though I also suspect that has to do with the new *Permissions aspect of the site (it isn't a free-for-all like it was before).
I further suspect that some of the old version traffic dropped off with the site being offline for those few months last year. It kinda acted to shake the whole place up (displacing some of the old members, a good portion haven't come back because they don't know that we're up and running again on V2, posssibly, and I dunno what kinda change has taken place with the influx of new members coming here from elsewhere {other sites or via searchs, like google}. I recently started doing site-centric mixes (posting them here and elsewhere) in a way to try and advertise for 'tha loop'. Figure it might bring some more folks into the fold here.

Dunno how I feel about the ~Points~ aspect of things. On one side, they were really cool and served as a sort of incentive to get more active on here. On the other, you had knuckleheads that somehow thought that they were the by-all-and-end-all of existence on here, so they'd do whatever they could to snatch as many of 'em up as possible (like we were collecting Myspace friends or Pokemon cards here or somethin). Some folks also felt that the *Member Rank (colored screen names) served to divide folks on here (and in a way advocate a sort of elitist system). Can't speak for everyone, but it was largely just a game for me (sort of like the stats on the back of a baseball card or comic book character trading card- like, my strength was lv.4, psychic abilities lv.3, and so on, haha).

Amother thing to consider, we're sort of at a half-way stage with the V2 model. I dunno when Looperman plans on completing the new site design, but have a suspicion that it'll be 2, 3 times cooler when he does. Anyways, that's all I got. Later on!

MINOR2GO : Sat 11th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago same opinion as DonnieVyros about it.

If you think 100 hours about it, i guess there is a possible solution in the middle.
  6. Spd2
Spd2 : Sat 11th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago I agree it has been different, but I can't say it's been quiet because outside of Looperman I have responsibilities ( work, family, music, home maintenance ), so I haven't had much free time on my hands. On one hand it would be nice to have the point system back because like DonnieVyros said, it would serve as an incentive, thus allowing you to reach a higher rank ( name color changed ). The thing that makes makes me itch is the podcast, when I go to hit comment, the song stops and you have to start it again when you go in the comment section for example. It would be nice if it could stay open until, even as I'm changing pages. Aside from everything else, I got to meet more interesting musicians on this site and through The LOOP on F/B. Peace

Dooka : Sat 11th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago so this points thing ... how did it work ? im afraid im pretty new.
  8. Mahloo13
Mahloo13 : Sat 11th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago @Dooka - The point system was based on getting points for reviewing tunes (3 points) and posting in the forums (1 point) if I remember correctly. Once you've reached 500 points you're name would've been displayed in a different color, at 1500 in a different color all the way up to red.

It was interesting but at the same time it made some users abuse the review system to get points and reach the Red color.

@Thread - I guess the site has gone a bit silent when it comes to the interactions taking place in the forums but I can't complain on that as I haven't been online so much as before either.

Though I do agree something should be done to make the users interact more....but at the same time I'm thinking how many of the old users are actually here reviewing songs and such, cause the process seems really slow to me.

Anyways the fact is the loop has always been a loop resource for the vast majority so I guess that part is going well seeing how many users are online each day.

MrFunktastic : Sat 11th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago I think Looperman is aware of the points thing. V2 will never be V1 but this will not stop the comparison aspect I am sure.

I think Looperman might be still focused on at putting out fires even at this stage and keeping the items and features already deployed on this site, secure, stable, working and up.

This site has a lot of amazing new artist with a lot of great potential and I see it as a never ending evolving masterpiece of work and commitment.

This site is as good as the people that are on it. If interaction is down then it's the members on this site. I am having trouble at accepting that interaction is down because of this sites and possibly V2.

We have to look to it's memebers. This site is not a living breathing thing and has no intelligence.

What can we as members do to ramp things up here?

Kikajon : Sat 11th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago Shan's done an amazing job doing this by himself and I agree, things must change. The only thing I noticed is that there are more downloads and less comments. That's maybe only in the rock genre, even if I thing that just "lurking" and dl has become common all over looper.

Earlier on there even was a thread in the forums here on v2 with the purpose of sharing reviews. That was a bit odd since that has been one of the major ideas of looperman in general: sharing loops, new original unsigned music, reviewing the other members tracks and sharing opinions.

I think that the points worked – they encouraged interaction. Even if it was abused by some. I liked getting to know the listeners to my music (seeing their avatars on each play) and learning to know other musicians. It worked excellently for me.

I agree that it's the people on the site that makes the site what it is. I also realize that if I don't like the site nobody's forcing me to stay on the site. I'm just saying that the looperman site sadly enough lost that edge I loved.

simmerdown : Sat 11th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago seeing who has played was critical

    the points less-so imo

i can understand why formerly red users would feel ripped off, if i addded all my incarnations together id be red too...meh

biorhythm of any site...it had pretty much taken a nosedive about six months before the break if you recall....the highpoint was 6 months to 1 year before that...ups/downs = normal

it will be up again, its starting to happen...new users are the key, the lifeblood of any forum, keep welcoming new ppl and reviewing and it will come back...then go down...then come back....
  12. FreeRadical
FreeRadical : Sat 11th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago It's funny, because at the time it felt like the points were pretty random, but looking back it did give you some sort of subliminal encouragement to dedicate more of your time to reviews. I've been bloody terrible about it just lately.
  13. Kikajon
Kikajon : Sat 11th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago Oh, I've been on looper a few years, and didn't really become red. And maybe you're right that things will improve. They better be.
    Take care.
  14. Planetjazzbass
Planetjazzbass : Sat 11th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago I feel way more liberated without the point system actually....like a lot of long time members I had accrued enough points to give me a platinum Visa card!(I wish,lol)...however I didn't like the assumed seniority and elitist stigma that unavoidably goes with any ranking system,I don't like resting on laurels,it's what your doing not what you've done that's important to me...I think new members are more likely to get involved and not be intimidated if there's no visible hierarchical system..this isn't a plug for some Utopian communist ideal though! haha..I mean what are we motivated by here?..for me it's interacting and being exposed to other creative people which in turn stimulates my own processes....As for the down swing in participation dungbeatl nailed it..there's just about the very same number of people logged in as there ever has been at any point in time, and there's always the revolving door situation happening...I would definitely like to see all the site features of Looperman V2 completed though, but I'm well aware that this can only be done when Looperman's got some spare time,so I have no pressing concerns really.........but don't think that makes me happy....my general demeanor is not unlike Karl Pilkington's in "An Idiot Abroad"! LOL cheers Planet
  15. Kikajon
Kikajon : Sun 12th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago I checked the tracks list to see how much comments/reviews there are on the tracks, and I also backed three pages when i did so. There were 12 comments on 20 tracks total and 9 of them were on planetjazzbass's entry. (It's a bloody good track by the way.)
It wouldn't be too far fetched to suggest that comments attracts comments as well as the majority of the tracks now are not reviewed or commented at all. I can't remember that was the case earlier.

So yeah, the points gave an incitament and I also guess that's why Visa uses the points system – it works.

oasisduke : Sun 12th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago I totally agree that incentive to interact is positive...but I also agree with planetJazz; the elitist structure that was borne from the point system was annoying.
I wonder what other ways the site could encourage members to be more social without accidentally creating some sort of accidental caste system lol...
  17. FreeRadical
FreeRadical : Sun 12th Feb 2012 : 3 months ago Or we could just issue people with antisocial behaviour orders if they spend too much time looking at their own page & playing their own tracks. You could have like a big red flashing sign appear on their screen that says "Sort it out you self serving tosser & get on with reviewing some tracks!"
And if that fails then i suggest we could always try to persuede Chuck Norris to punch them in the face. If he's still around?
